  • COMET GT250 Sputtering n Choking issue sorted.. :)

    hi guys..,

As many of you already know that my babe aint doing so well as how it used to and I was seriously in search of a well trained mech in Hyderabad rather than some idiot who "learns" on our babies..!!! !!! Finally..., found one.., who is a Hyosung company trained mech for Comets/Aquilas..!! Yippee..!! !!!

Coming to the point now.., My comet used to choke for a sec or two when sudden bursts of throttle was given as if there isnt enough fuel supplied or more air getting in. Got my baby checked many times by many popular mechs here in Hyderabad, some were even SBK mechs I know.., but sadly no one could even find where the issue was. All the time.., they just cleaned the carb and fixed it back saying everything is just in place and fine..! My search for a well trained mech for servicing my babe.., finally ended today..!! He took the comet for a spin, checked the iginition system and said there is definitely an issue with the carb. He opened the carb.., every single part of it, it was a piece of cake for him..!! (trust me guys.., comet's dual carbs are very very complex..!!) and within mins.., he showed me this...

    Broken Needle Jet screws

The broken n blocked part of the screw

Its the needle jet (not the main or pilot jet)n its screw..! The earlier mech (A**H***) sorry abt the language.., broke the needle jet screws of both the carbs..!! Yes, both..!! and fitted them without even letting me know..!! Coz of this.., both the needle jets started moving when given throttle.., pushing in more air from the airfilter leaving the engine choke when given sudden throttles...! Rushed to a autospares shop checked with all the jets of various vehicles which suits almost near the original shape. Finally got some rx100 jets to a lathe shop to get them altered/threaded into place and had to get them gas welded to close the nozzle opening at one end.

    RX100 Jet

    Jet after gas welding

    The Final Setup...

    Mech working on my babe...

Wheeew...!!! It took me a whole day to get these all done and then get them placed intact. n now.........

    Woooooooooooohooooooooooooo.............

My Falken (thats how I cal my comet ) is ffffffffffflllllllyyyyyyyyiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnggggg ggggggg...

P.S ~ sorry for such a long post...

Aaaaall is well that ends well.

I always feel that the owning experience of any bike is complete when you either have the full mechanical knowledge of how to repair it or for people (like me) with mechanical limitations is to have a mechanic who understands the bike like the back of his hand.

Congrats on finding a good mech and getting the bike sorted. One question though, why is the main jet blocked? How will the petrol get into the needle jet and then the venturi? Im kinda confused here!

Hi dev.., is it choking or a little hesitation when given sudden throttle?? coz a little negligible hesitation in acceleration when given sudden throttle is something common to Comet/Aquila. check the review of the comet by Sunny bhai during the Great Indian Roadtrip. Here is the link... check out the 9th paragraph from top... The Great Indian Roadtrip : Comet

Thanx James bhai. Coming to the issue.., the main jet aint blocked bro. As a matter of fact.., there is no issue of blockage. The only issue was with the Needle Jet screws which were broken. N these screws arent the normal jets which have a screw threading at one end n nozzle opening at the other. These look almost similar but the only difference is there wont b a nozzle opening. They just hold the needle jets in place n intact.

Coming to the other question abt how petrol gets into needle jet, we all know that the needles inside the carburettor are the ones which regulate the amount of fuel going to the engine when certain level of throttle is given, by moving in n out of needle jets accordingly with the throttle. So adjusting the needles, inturn adjusts the carbs to run rich/lean in the comet. Now since both the needle jet screws are broken.., which resulted in the movement of the needle jets (which shouldnt be happening) n when sudden bursts of throttle were given.., both the needles n the needle jets started moving giving improper amount of fuel to the combustion chamber, which resulted in the choking.
