Had a smile on my face when i saw this topic. Baffled by the Paralever technology BMW have put to use. If anyone is not clear about the technology used by reading the above .pdf file , Google it, you would be shocked why they even use this technology.

Use the beemers for a while and you get hooked onto them for life.
They are made to be ridden hard and long. These are extremely functional bikes.

BMW brings meaningful technology & innovation to production bikes way before the others. Just in case some of you are not aware, few of BMWs list of firsts for the MOTORCYCLING world are:

1923- First flat-twin Boxer engine is born (low center of gravity and superior colling)

1935- BMW introduces the first hydraulically damped telescopic forks

1955- The Earles-type front end, popularly known as "Earles forks" debuts in production bikes

1976- The R100RS is the first production bike with an integral fairing.

1980- The Monolever swing arm suspension system debuts on the R80GS

1983- Electronic ignition and fuel injection appear for the first time on a production bike on the K Series bike.

1987- For the first time 3 innovations are introduced on their bikes. ABS (Anti-lock braking), Paralever suspension and Mobile Diagnostic Test Computer

1991- First bike manufacturer to offer Three-way catalytic converter

1993- The Telelever suspension system (released on the R100RS) revolutionizes handling and front end design

2001- Integral ABS & linked brakes dramatically improves safety by maximizing the stopping power of both wheels while preventing overbraking

2002- Electro-Pneumatic center stand deployment device for K1200LT

2005- Electronic suspension adjustment on the move and Duolever front suspension (new K1200S)

the list goes on....... afterall its the "Ultimate riding machine".

BMW are probably the only bike manufacturers that have their own training grounds (in Germany & UK) with year round training courses for GS riders- Oh yes they provide the bike and you can drop it as many times as you want!

Oh yes, I am very passionate about beemers.

Even for Rossi wannabes, the BMW K1200S will anyday give the latest Busa or ZX-14 a good run for its money.

I would choose the GS over any bike any day...
                sigh... if wishes were horses...
on all articles about the BMW bikes, they say its just not like any other bike to ride... its totally different with all the unconventional suspension setups they have...
Haroon, if u bring your GS to b'lore, I would be there to welcome you at the airport

@Haroon:I wasn't sure how much love you had for BMW's even after the avatar you had previous to the server crash. Now i do!

I'v seen two 1200GS's in Bangalore, a red and a yellow one, and some of us also saw the yellow GS blast past us on one of the Xbhp rides. Marvelous engine note and poise. Loved it! I'v always had love for these bikes even before i started watching Long Way Round. Apparently the 1200GS's in Long Way Down experienced quite a few rear suspension failures.1150GS in Long Way Round hardly had any! I wonder why

@ Trigger, Yes, god-willing I am planning a 4-southern state road trip with possibly a GS (with carnet). Just matter of finding the time next year. Hope to have a GS-G2G then!

@ silver_falcon 46, There are quite a few GS in Bangalore that I have come across. A black 1150 (he is a friend of xbhp member id 'Killer' and mind you at the race track the guy drags his knee with the heavy GS!!)), a Silver 1150 Adventure and the Red 1200GS which belongs to Ramana Reddy and the Yellow one is Anand Reddy. I guess you saw the latter as he goes to Chickmagalur frequently. Also there is another intrepid Grey 1200GS who has done the himalayas on his bike. Refer to the below link

Collection: Caman da Mountains Jul-Aug 2007

The greatness of the GS is the fact that you can enjoy & comfortably do most of the following:

                      -Cross continents
                      -Regular city ride.
-Off road (ofcourse the serious stuff with the optional spoke wheels)
                      -Ride the expressways
                      -Ride twisties.

The 1200GS is about 30kgs lighter than the outgoing 1150. Oh BTW the service interval for the GS is every 10,000kms and being an oil-air cooled engine no botheration with radiator, collant, hoses etc. Also no chain adjustments, lubing etc. Ofcourse, if you are vertically challenged, this bike may be a handful to handle. Anyway for a cockpit view of the ride here is a link:

                      YouTube - BMW R1200GS Enduro

@ Adil, the K1200S (now 1300) is a fully faired inline-4 bike with about 175+ hp. Here is the video link:
YouTube - BMW K1200S PV `Face The Power'

BMW is also introducing a separate chain driven superbike for the WSB. of the 1000 odd being sold to public only 2-3 may find its way to Saudi Arabia. Price should be around SR 60-100K as it comes stock with all the racing stuff.

There is a GS Adventure to be given away at the Bahrain Airport Duty Free Raffle.

Aha! Haroon, the minute I saw this thread I knew you'd find your way here

Long Way Down had a lot less tougher terrain than LWR. Plus BMW would've taken note of the failures on the first series.

KTM must be kicking themselves seeing the massive kick the Beemers got from the show

@Haroon: WOW , now thats a lot of BMW's in Bangalore. I'v never seen the yellow BMW being ridden slowly. It's always zipping past us along with a few other Super Bikes. This Anand Reddy is the owner of Parle if i'm not wrong?? Yeah i'v seen this guy quite a few times and saw the red BMW parked at the usual Maddur CCD. I wonder how the GS performs on track? I guess it take s a lotta skill to get a GS swinging from one side to the other on the track.Brilliant machine i must say. My dream machine after the Fazer FZ1

@Rossiter: Hi sir! Long time no see.
In case you saw the overview of Long way down, they had a lot of rear suspension failures, though LWD was easier than LWR. I wonder why is that. I guess you already know that Charlie Boorman along with the crew came to KTM initially with the request, but KTM felt it may not give them enough PR value. And BMW's sales came up by 30% after Long way round was released!

                              Seriously What a machine...

Its been there on a poster next to my bed since my 10th standard, with the words "D-A-K-A-R" cobbled together with vinyl....Its been a dream long before Evan & Charley went anywhere near it...

And did you read the freakin' facts! HOLY MOLY! WTF!!!
20,000 MILES IN 19 DAYS!!!!!! on a motorbike...

*Not one single puncture on their entire 20000 miles!

But its not without fault! The Long way down trip was bugged with useless rear monos that broke down very frequently..
The long way round trip was marred with Rear subframe cracking problems...
Their X5 too was a bloody nightmare...Problems after problems
