  • Ducati Bookings

My first post on XBhp sbk forum!!
Ok, let me get straight to the trigger!

Does anybody have any idea if Ducati still have bookings open and most importantly, are they functional in India now?
Also, please let me know anything about deliveries and bookings that have happened recently.
The reason i post here is I trust folks on Xbhp more than the guys at the Showroom regarding honesty!

Waiting for few replies and also hopefully a Italian supermodel in red!!!

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Hope you are aware of Ducati Horro Stories in India before putting down 14 Lacs??? Ducati ASS is as bad as it can be as per talks happening over the net.

Also check Teambhp for more info on Ducati experience....

ya I am very well aware of the pathetic scene in India But I have a mechanic here who looks after most of the local sbk's here and since the bike will be out of its warranty period, I am ok with getting aftermarket parts!
But other than the poor or rather NO service issues, any other problems with Ducatis?

well let me be really honest with you regarding your purchase

make sure that get the bike thoroughly checked before you indulge.
ducati is not a bike for first time SBK buyers. there is a lot of vibrations and clatter on the bike - which you might not learn to enjoy. ducatis are known for not being smooth like the japs - so your entire ownership joy might take a bump or two when you ride a jap. if you are OK with that - then please go ahead...

most of the SBK mechanics that claim that they can handle an italian - are simply lying! trust only the guys who have had enough experience with the italian as it is not as easy or simple to figure out as the japs are.
if something goes wrong at point A there might be a whole lot of mess at point S in a ducati. let me repeat - the way these bikes are made and engineered is a whole world different than tha japs that the regular mechanics can manage.

since you are considering a 1098s - be sure you are buying a 1098s - as there weren't many 1098s sold in the country, just a handful. the only way to make out the difference between the regular 1098 and 1098s is - you need to jot down the vin number and send it to people at ducati to confirm. asking you to do that since there is almost no visual difference between the 1098, 1098s, 1198 and 1198s. heck they look similar to the 848 and 848evo too. so you need to do a lot of research before buying the 1098s

ducati mumbai dealership has a couple of experienced people - so you need not worry about the servicing part. even the chandigarh dealership people are quiet friendly and nice - though how well trained they are - i am not aware of. but the problem with the mumbai dealership is that their ways aren't the most honorable. so you need to be really careful.

on the other hand - why are you considering a 1098s? as far as i know - it's known to heat up quiet a lot and it isn't ideal for indian riding condition. might as well bump up your budget a bit more and go for the 848 evo instead. but that too if and only if you are not a first time SBK owner + you are hell bent to buy a ducati

other than these small issues - a ducati is a joy to have. the torque delivery is simply superb + handling is beyond excellent. the oomph factor (purely on the looks dept.) is loads more - but then beauty is subjective. you might find a lot more people drooling over a jap than an italian. but my personal experience is - the italians have an eye for detailing - and they make each part of the bike really beautiful.
Biking is a religion, not a hobby!!

I have been an ex-ducati owner. I would really ask you to think it through . The bikes are just awesome to ride once you get over the clattering of the engine obviously but living with them is like living with the enemy you will have douche out quite a lot of dough if any thing goes wrong on one of these bikes....and after sales service is non existent so your own your own......i still recommend talk to any of your friends who are ducati owners

So basically you are talking about life after marriage.

@Samyak and Mahesh : Thanks a 140bhp for your thoughtful inputs I saw the bike in person and there it was the truth! Both the 848 and 1098s I saw where crashed/dropped earlier and some spares had to be purchased from me and he was ready to drop the price by a small fraction. It was as if he was desperate to sell it off! Well, now I'm really in a dilemma!! My Heart says Duc but Im not sure what to do!
I am not personally a fan of Japs once I saw this Italian! Love at first sight you say!
Right now, Im considering the Cbr1000rr which I feel would be the easiest to ride around and most importantly to Live with!

but if its the Ducati I am buying, It would be a new one, as I believe, Newer Bikes have a relatively less repairs/maintenance other than the regular oil/filter changes and such.
                  Any other inputs?

In the present scenario; I wouldn't touch a ducati (new or old) with a 10 ft pole. One of the best bikes I've ever owned and would jump on a new one if the scenario changes.

Well, after talking to quite a lot of people, for now the Italian is out of mind!!!
But I have another the Bavarian in mind!!! If I could somehow extend my budget, I'l go for the S1000RR
Again, I need your opinion guys!

Quality engineering at an extra ordinary price. Great bike, bit of an overkill for our roads but so is every other litre bike.

In Gurgaon the Aprilia RSV4 APRC is available for 16.5 lacs, which is almost at the price of Japs and I don't think anybody would doubt about it's quality or prowess which makes it a more sensible option in comparison to the Bavarian crusader
Twist your wrist and feel the shift!!

                          My own thoughts - Throttle

Yea. BMW thinks its cool to charge it over 25L for a Bike that way cooler than the Japs IMO!!!
