If those were fresh imports, they would have mostly been in wooden crates.

    Btw, doesn't that look like a 99 spec R1?

    manson.
    Its an '03 R1.

Even I feel the same as most of the new bikes imported come in crates and the customs guys take you into the bonded warehouse and open the crates in front of you.

BTW, if you have seen Long Way Round, when they were shipping the bikes from Russia to Alaska, the loading guys bump the bikes few times to put it in place and later they even layed it flat on its side in the flight thus damaging the valve covers etc when they arrive in Ancorage. Seems it happens in a lot of places

The bikes that come in as one piece are the proper imports. All the "jhol" imports come in pieces and then get assembled here.

For that matter remember the recent Himalaya trip by Sunil Sir and team. They incurred a lot of damages on the bikes too.

edit: the pics are quite fresh but there is a possibility that these are the vehicle which are illegally imported or fail to comply with import norms and hence are confiscated or dumped. quite possible.
sorry my bad. but those guys look like freshly recruited customs officers

But yeah this would the case anywhere.. i've seen bikes getting manhandled at railway stations.. therefore when i had trasported my cbz-x i personally made it sure that the bike was loaded with care (also have rs 30 to the loading worker) and got on the train at the last moment.

hate to start an OT here, but "what norms" ? i bet cars/bikes from the outside would be better vehicles on our roads than some of the vehicles on our roads running in pathetic conditions. its sad to see that good machines like these getting wasted lying around. There should an way to auction off the vehicle !

There obviosuly is a 'way' the customs house auctions these vehicles and other commodities in their custody after a certain period. Unfortunately, this 'way' is manipulated and the auctioned commodites are almost everytime sold to people within their channels.

maybe they should get auctioned off to a new charity. a charity for bikers who cannot afford to buy these babies..I'll be the first to grab one then

Its at a throw away price actually. Once there is no one to claim the stuff, its difficult to put a price for it. If you don't know the price how can you acertain the percentage of tax?

This loop hole can be utilized to the maximum when buying stuff from customs guys. The catch is, you should know the right people to get a good bargain. Else, i have heard you get vehicle easily for 2/3rd the actual price....

I think they may be SEIZED cars & bikes, with no owners coming forward to claim them. I believe the CUSTOMS has to actually wait for 3 years, before it can auction them off. If for 3 years nobody claims them, then they can be auctioned, not before that. I guess that's why they're so dirty. Which dock is this by the way. May be I can get some help.

what kind of fun are these interns deriving by posing on those machines.
they look funny. Since i have never imported or transported my bike through trian or any othe means of transport was just curious, incase of any damages to the vehicle cant you ask for a compensation or is there any such process in place where the condition of your vehicle is checked before being transported.

there was a story a while back showin all the seized cars at customs the list included bentleys, rolls-royces, jags and what not. once they are seized they are just dumped and then nobody even looks at them.

This is India n I was born n bought up here! So am seeing all this from past 24 years.
Dont you guys ever see a brutually handled bike on a railway platform???
Wen I was abt 15-16, I used to see a CBZ or a Feiro lying on those stations in very badly dumped conditions, to me they were the superbikes then, n I used to give them my utmost respect respect.
Guys this Is INDIA, n its never gona change...

don't know why the ruckus here.

if you ask me other than the vehicles gathering dust, there is absolutely nothing that looks wrong with the vehicles.
and this much dust is possible with one week of uncovered storage too.
I have seen cars in worse condition with the owners!!

why do we always blame the indian system??
how many of us have seen how are the vehicles stored/handled anywhere else in the world??
with our kind of inadequate infrastructure and unskilled labor, i think these pics speak a lot about how well they have kept the vehicles.

and why do we think that the labors or the workers there would think abt. "hogi kisi amirzaade ki" while sitting in/on them?? i am sure if we are given even half the chance of what they get everyday, we would have definitely hopped in the car or onto the bike and got all kinds of pictures clicked to showoff to our frenz or maybe on orkut or facebook.
i have done it and i am sure most of us here would have done it.....so why say anything about people who are below the poverty line. they simply do not know the difference between a tata nano and a rolls royce phantom. both of them are equally out of bounds for them.

anyways the vehicles which we can see are definitely older vehicles, which must be en-route via the TR channel or might have been few of those unclaimed vehicles.

heard from a reliable source that a 2008 LC prado was sold off for 23Lacs only through an agent. so that means the agent must have got the car at a much cheaper rate. my estimate is around 18L maybe.
