The Dealer – Satyen had confirmed that I will get the bike before 15 Jan. So the plan was I will go to Pune the weekend after that and get the bike home. Then the call came a few days before the promised date (talk about customer delight) and I was jumping up and down. There was no way that I could wait for the weekend. So here is what was done.

I had a meeting at Ambarnath in the evening. I took the KTM to the meeting. The meeting got over at 530pm. I had asked for my driver to bring all the riding gear directly to the clients place. Got out of the meeting, geared up (at the side of the road) and was racing towards pune in under ten minutes. When I stopped at Lonavla for a tea, I called the dealer and asked them to confirm that all was in order for the delivery. They said that I had to be there in next fifteen minutes. Thanks God, I had requested a friend of mine – DJ to be there at the showroom, I told the lady at the dealership that my friend would be reaching anytime. By eight pm I was there at the dealership. It is a huge thing in Wakdewadi where they have a Bajaj showroom (the biggest bike showroom that I have seen till date) and right next to that there is a glass door which opens upto a smaller but swankier exclusive Kawasaki showroom. The moment I entered my friend told me that the lady who was to complete the process and give the bike to me has already left despite my friend telling her to wait a little longer. I immediately called the owner – Satyen, thankfully he was still there. He took charge and ensured that the paperwork gets done immediately.

Since we had some time to kill we walked into the showroom. There were three little stages and on each one of them there was a bike. The mammoth beauty – Zx14R was the first bike displayed, next to it was ZX10R and then on the right hand was Zed1000. Just standing there waiting for me. I felt my pulse getting faster.

        First Impression:
God, it is sexier than the pictures. And yes bigger too. It was all shiny in the spotlight of the showroom and glittering. My earlier bike was the 848 EVO it was light and extremely powerful. This was my first litre class sports bike. It felt intimidating. For a second I thought, would it be too big for me. This feeling remained at the back of my mind till I actually sat on it. Once I sat on the bike, it fit me so beautifully that I laughed at my earlier inhibition. This bike looks big and compact at the same time. The fuel tank is big, and so is the engine, so when seen from the front, it gives you the chest puffed feel. As if a short man has pumped a lot of iron, you feel that the chest is puffed to accommodate the large engine. But when you see it from the sides, you realized that it is not a big bike at all. It feels that a lot of metal is hard pressed to create this beauty.

But the real beauty comes from the feline lines of the bike. It looks like a predator ready to pounce. Then from another angle it seems to have a reptilian quality about it. One moment you feel that its eyes are like snake, then another moment you are reminded of the transformer. It is like a concept bike brought directly to life from a paper design, with the same pencil drawn lines now made up of metal and plastic.

The other remarkable thing about the bike is the twin exhaust which only remind me of the Vmax. All in all, both DJ and I were dumbstruck at the beauty of the machine. Then slowly the realization came that Oh god this is mine…..

By 930 I was ready and good to go . The pictures that I had posted earlier were from the basement of the dealership, where I was getting ready to ride the beauty home to Mumbai for the first time.

Some more Pics and first ride report coming up… and so so sorry for the delay. The Dealer – Satyen had confirmed that I will get the bike before 15 Jan. It was a real pleasure talking to you too, Atul.

After a lot of thought and interacting with some, let's just say, not-so-good kawasaki personnel, I have booked a Triumph. Now the question remaining is Speed or Street. I know you love the Street triple and I too am favouring the smaller bike but will wait till I test ride both bikes to come to a conclusion.

Hopefully the dealership will be up by first week in April, here in Delhi.

P.S.: The R1 was always my personal favourite. With the launch of this no-words-to-describe-this....-this-thing, I'm confused on my priority. :/
