  • Honda CBR650F

Folks got new Honda CBR650F on 27 September 2014. Have ridden around 100 miles only. I have ridden Yamaha FZ16 since 2010 October to 2012 August. Before that Splendour and crux-r since 2003. I was away from motorcycles since 2012 August after moving to US. This time I got a chance to get a motorcycle for office commute. Since I was looking for daily commute, I had to leave out all the supersports model like Yamaha R6, Honda CBR600RR. So my focus was on sports motorcycle only. Started with Yamaha FZ6R looked little bit bulky and outdated. Yamaha fz07 looked very promising to me, but this time I wanted to leave out Naked bikes as I need to travel 70-80mph on highways and specially in winding area, so it would have been very difficult to negotiate so much wind on naked ones.

Finally I left out with Honda CBR500R, CBR650F, Kawasaki Ninja 650. I finally decided to visit Honda dealer for test ride. At first CBR650F looked very big for me, as I am 5'4" only. It was 1 inch (31.9 inch = 820mm) higher than CBR500R, and 16kg more heavier than CBR500R. Just by seating on both the bikes, I decided to go for CBR500R, as it was small and riding position was not much leaning. I asked for test ride, after test riding CBR500R looked powerful upto 50-60mph, but somehow I felt it will be tough to maintain constant 70-80mph speed on 500 parallel twin, need to rev more constantly. Then I thought why not take test ride on 650F 4 inline cylinder with bigger tire, little bit heavy which is good for 70-80mph speed. After riding 650F, it also looked comfortable to me, little bit more leaning on this one but easily manageable, my both toes are reaching the ground comfortably.
Then I though if I got CBR500F this time, after a year I will get bored and surely will look for upgrade to 650 or more, so why not this time itself I should go for big engine.
It produces 87bhp compared to 47bhp of CBR500R and 72bhp of Ninja650. Torque is 63Nm.

Not only good bikes, with good cars also.
When I was in India, I never thought to buy a Honda City even. But in USA, for the same job, I could have got BMW C series also, but looking at maintenance cost I preferred Honda Accord Sports.
The main reason is Wages, there is a huge gap. Here you can save for 6 months and can buy new Yamaha R1, Honda CBR1000RR in cash.

Another reason is Road structures, on highways you there is no traffic signal. People, cows, dogs cannot walk on highways. So you have to worry about cars only. As minimum speed of cars on highways in 60 mph, normally everybody goes around 70-75 mph, bikes goes around 80-90mph, so only bigger bikes can do this much speed with
