  • The Phoenix has arrived. The Harley Davidson Street 750 Ownership Experience!

I have been an avid reader of this forum, more on a passive note. During my engineering days, my steed was the handsome Pular 150 (older version with the round headlights) which served me well and was my first love. For the student life, it was perfect as it had power, looked pretty neat and was an all around great package.

Then, I got busy with my entrepreneurial venture, responsibilities and life in general but I really missed the glory days of riding my bike with my friends.

Well, to cut to the chase, I have been wanting to own a big cylinder bike for a while now and India as a market is slowly but surely opening up to the premium segment of bikes. The type of bike I was looking for was not an out an out sports bike but a combination of a cruiser and a sports bike (I know, it's kind of weird but I wanted both. Comfort and Power.

I was looking at the Street 750 since it's launch in India waiting to test ride the same as I had seen/read awesome reviews about it for the price Harley was offering it.

So, I head to the Bandra showroom with another friend in tow and we decide to test ride both the Street and Iron. The Iron has a more commanding road presence but personally I could not associate with it's ride. It's a true Harley but I just could not relate to it.

The Street was like a blistering rocket. Straight out of the box, no fuss, pure power and handling package. It has a gem of an engine (749cc on tap) and the powerful accelaration will really surprise you as you do not expect that kind of power from a cruiser bike.

But as the designer from Harley who designed the Street 750 says, it's like a fist in the wind (referring to the cowl on the headlamp) with power to match.

What really surprised me when I test rode the same was how nimble it was on the road, easy to handle and a delight to overtake.

I had decided then and there this is what I wanted. A mean Street 750 (matt black and all mean). A week later I book it using my credit card (Rs 30k booking amount) and am promised by Mr Ravi Pillai (Seven Islands Harley Mumbai) who was ever so helpful and always ready to answer queries that the bike should arrive in a month or less.

So the wait begins for me. I make sure, I clear all the formalities of loan and finance to ensure there is no delay in the delivery of the bike.

It cost me Rs 5.14 lakh on road (they have recently hiked the price by about 20k).

Each night, I used to dream about it arriving, looking up Youtube videos of current owners, exhaust notes, modifications, the works!
Finally the day arrives on 31st October! I receive a call in the morning telling me that the bike has arrived. I rush to the showroom with a friend of mine who is as excited as I am.

We enter the showroom and I see it parked outside. All shiny and new! I am in LOVE.

Final formalities, instructions etc completed, I take my baby home. The Phoenix has arrived.

Pros: Everything. Looks, engine (not the typical harley dubba dubba sound but it sounds pretty awesome still. The screaming eagle exhaust will make it louder. Might have that one added later) and the matt black colour. Damn, she's smokin

Cons: I'm sure you must have read this across every review, it's the brakes. No ABS but still they pack a decent punch. Also, there is no fuel gauge to tell you the fuel levels. Go old school and open the tank lid to see for yourself

p.s: I would love for fellow riders to get in touch, feedback and are welcome to ride along

Build quality, paint finish is quite great. I mean the matt black paint job has to be seen to be believed.

The switches are functional and rugged and do not feel flimsy. Yes, a bit of the wiring is exposed (as you can see on left of the air filter just above the exhaust pipe) but it can hardly a deterrent for me.

Sure, let's catch up. Please share your details on pm.

It took me about a month for delivery from the date of booking. It is an amazing ride, if possible have a talk with the showroom guy whom you speak to and take the bike out for atleast an hour and really get to know her before you book it. It always helps
