Triumph is the only brand going out of the way and arranging longer rides for serious buyers. They can easily understand who is serious and who isn't. Moreover, one of the sales person already recognised me as I have been to KTM Orange Day, Orange Ride etc events and was one of the early adopters of KTM Duke 200 in Pune when it was launched.

It is a beautiful machine no doubt (though again it is subjective). I already had my first ride to Lavasa - though I have not really exceeded 4000 RPM, it was still nice. You can guess from my profile photo - already the kind of leaning angles I can easily achieve on this bike surely means the extra capability of that bike even at moderate speeds! I am not yet a real expert but this bike makes me feel like an expert Of course I am certainly controlling my urges and taking it easy as of now - these machines have to be respected...

Only one thing - at least in Pune, Triumph guys don't really negotiate on price of the bike. This despite their machines being already overpriced. Kawasaki Z800 would have been a better choice except the negatives that I felt like less comfort for rider and even lesser for pillion. Also their unwillingness for long ride before purchase - how can they expect me to put a lifetime of savings on a machine just because it has a brand name - ultimately I need to feel it before buying it..Kawaski or Ducati or Triumph - I can't buy anything without proper test ride to my satisfaction - this swung the balance towards Triumph

    Hello all,

In my quest to finish the first 800 km as early as possible, I had a short ride to LAVASA near Pune along with couple of friends - it is the most popular Biker Destination in the Pune region I am sure . Adding few pictures as well. I have now done about 350 km till date...Planning 1-2 more rides to finish 800 km and get first service done...After that higher RPMs can be used - gradually planning to take it higher and higher as every couple of hundred km pass....(the suggested schedule is present on petrol tank as a sticker from manufacturer)

I am happy to note that within few turns, I started feeling more confident on Triumph Street Triple 675. Even with limit of 4000-5000 RPM (I am not exceeding 4000 as of now), I was still able to achieve very decent leaning angles quickly in effortless manner - something that I achieved on KTM Duke 200 with a bit of effort. Surely I will do more once I get used to this bike more and more.

Also I will purchase riding boots. I already own a decent CROSS helmet, Teknic Leather Full Gauntlet Gloves, Hein Gericke Jacket, First Gear Riding Pants. Riding boots are missing as earlier I was making do with Timberland shoes that I had and those are gone for long...But currently out of money so will do this after 3-4 months may be...

Also I am sure I will purchase the ARROW exhaust (what's a super bike without proper super bike sound of music!!) - again once my finances recover, I will surely do it.
Only other accessory I am planning is frame sliders at the moment...

    Regards,
    Jeevan
    Dear All,

Just to update, I have recently done a ride from Pune to Ahmednagar and back to Pune on Red Rose and it was an awesome experience.
Controlling myself to just 5000-6000 RPM proved quite tough but I managed somehow. I haven't captured photos as it was a quick ride and I had some work to do rather than it being a ride for ride's sake.

But that helped me cross 800 km mark and more...Now I have about 950 km on the ODO.

Have informed Triumph guys about first service and they told not to worry about few km here and there - they are generally tolerant for any reading between 800 to 1000 km. Probably real distance for 1st service could actually be 1000 km and they are telling everyone to come after 800 km so that with typical Indian habits, people will surely cross the limit and request them to ADJUST As per the schedule on Petrol Tank, between 480 to 960 km on ODO, we can use 6000 RPM. I am using about 5500 RPM and that is translating to somewhere about 110-112 kmph on Speedo in 6th gear.

The smoothness is increasing and also it is becoming easier for me to ride in peak traffic day by day as the bike is running in properly and I am also getting used to it more and more. Beyond 5000 RPM the exhaust + engine intake together is producing a good sound. If one quickly raises RPM from 0 to 5000 in 1st gear the sound is impressive even without Arrow exhaust (with arrow it will surely be head turning) and the bike rockets really quick...One doesn't even notice when 100 kmph has been reached...

One small negative I noticed after many days from purchase - when we are not using gloves, the handlebar grips are leaving black residue on hands...Not expected from Triumph - but I noticed late because mostly riding with gloves on.

I have not tested the headlamp effectiveness on really dark roads yet as my long rides have been only during day time and I intend to ride during day as much as possible. Speed on this bike is so fast that at night if something comes in the way, it can be very hard to stop in time...

    UPDATE 24-Oct-15:
I had given my bike for servicing and got it back today. Service cost was about Rs 6400 and Tyre Protection Treatment for both tyres came to Rs 2800 - Total about Rs 9200...

    Main contributor was Oil (Castrol Power 1 - Rs 720/litre x 4 = 2880).

After the service, bike's engine started feeling much smoother than it was just prior to servicing. It is feeling eager than ever to leap to higher speeds now...I will start using 6000-6500 RPM range from tomorrow...After 1200-1300 km it would be about 7500-8000 RPM and after 1600 km it should be full fledged RPM range.. Braking is slightly more progressive feeling than before - or may be just I am used to it and imagining that in my head also...

Let's see when I can actually use anything beyond 8000 RPM...Definitely that will need longer rides on open highways (may be Mumbai - Bangalore highway beyond Kolhapur towards Karnataka side....Roads inside MH border are not good compared to those from Nipani onwards towards Bangalore..

    Update 30-Oct-2015

    Dear All,
In last few days, I started opening up the throttle and now Red Rose is starting to show its true colours - and also its real sound is coming out a bit more often than initial days...

Now I must say that on highways, it is really butter smooth when cruising at 100-110 kmph...It emits nice exhaust music + intake snarl (even in stock form) as soon as you increase the RPM rapidly from anything like 3000 to 6000-6500...Surely it attracts much attention...Definitely with Arrow exhaust it would be real head turner..

I have also adjusted Blue Gear Shift Lights to show progressive mode from 5500 RPM onwards. It feels real fun revving up the engine and see those lights flash as the revs are rising!

I haven't gone for a long ride since I started opening up the throttle a bit post 1st service...Thinking of doing so on coming Sunday - may be to Lonavla/Khandala near Pune which will allow some straight road and some curved roads riding on a decent smooth surface...

The kind of acceleration shown by this bike even with part throttle (not exceeding 7000 RPM) is astonishing...It simply sets my heart racing and I have to really control myself as the next speed breaker approaches rapidly (sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!)

Looking good. Keep riding and you ll get the hang of anticipating opstacles at night too. As a side note the stock lights on most bikes atleast sports have average performance.

Re: Red Rose - my new Triumph Street Triple 675 RED!

Congratulations on your purchase. Indeed it is a great bike to flick around city and occasional bursts on highways.

        Congrats once again.

Well, In reference to the arrow exhaust. There is no such restriction on changing to arrow during run-in. Mine was installed on day 1. Sounds music after 4K RPM.

Secondly, I do have problems with mirrors. The right mirror seems to be pretty much useless after all with riding gear. After market mirrors should be an option. I haven't tried it yet.

Finally, the head lights definitely needs improvement. Since I do not ride at nights, I am fine with it for the moment.

It will not disappoint you. Ride safe and have fun.

Thanks a lot mate....Head lights I haven't tried on highways at night. In the city they proved more than adequate (low beam covers area that is relatively near to the bike - when I switch to high beam, low beam coverage remains as it is but an additional light is thrown straight on the face of oncoming traffic (or into the mirrors of vehicles ahead of you) and it does that job alright. But yes, I have to check on truly dark roads how good or bad it is (I have seen some reviews comparing head lights of various superbikes and only BMWs were reported to have beautiful strong head lights that can take on the lawless and dark world of Indian Highways with panache!

For now I am sticking to original headlights.

Please do share tips on what and how you are getting the head light adjustment done..

            congratulations jeevan
and welcome to the triumph club

the 2016 color scheme looks refreshing with those silver tail section

the induction road past 6k RPM is addictive
do get the arrow exhaust and dont forget to get EU spec air intake kit.
            which the dealer itself sells

as u mentioned , the only problem is the GC when riding with pillions
no matter how slow u go , it still hits the bottom of the bike

            regarding mirrors,
get the mirrors extender from SW motech or other brands
they help in moving the mirrors out and help in better visibility
im using the triumph bar end mirrors
which looks sweet and does the job.

            once again congratulations
and wish u many more happy miles

And yes, Triumph seem to be a lot more customer friendly than most other manufacturers. Here in Bangalore, they arranged a test ride of any bike on the NICE road (very good highway with less traffic), I booked my test ride through Triumph India's website and within hours I got an email with phone numbers. Called them and made it concrete that I'd be going to their showroom at 6 AM. Went there, parked my D390, hopped on to a white Striple (my heart and mind experienced no such excitement and joy). I, along with other riders, went from showroom to NICE road on test ride bikes. There I tested the bike to the full extent, they even provided a test ride of the bike of your choice from Bonny T100 to Daytona 675R to Tiger 800 XCx. (I rode Daytona 675R, Bonny and Striple.)

I was shocked at their arrangement, no other manufacturer does this and all the staff were very, very friendly and knowledgeable. This made me so happy and I made myself to buy a Triumph when the time comes for me to upgrade.

Not to mention, the bikes were absolutely breathtaking, from their looks to their performance. Nobody left the showroom unhappy even a guy who owns a Fireblade. Amazing guys, amazing motorcycles.

Oh and the showroom is Keerthi Triumph, Bangalore.

EDIT: They give test rides only if you're geared (Jacket, gloves and helmet (duh) are a must).
Have you gone on to upgrade to Triumph or any other bike? Or currently staying with Duke 390? Anyway, D390 is amazing bike that will keep anyone entertained for fairly long time...

Update - Sunday Fun Ride (01-Nov-15)

Recently I rode my bike to Lonavla - Aamby Valley Road near Pune...Had couple of other Duke 200 riders for company and all of us enjoyed Sunday morning ride...

Currently my ODO has crossed 1350 km and I am further opening up the throttle to touch 8000 RPM if only for a couple of seconds as I haven't got that much open straight roads to do high speeds for few minutes or more...Click image for larger version

No. I have bought the bike in August. Willing to keep it till it can run. Won't be upgrading to any bike for another 5-6 years. I'm content with what D390 is offering.

Absolutely agree with you. I would have considered it too - the problem was that - I was already having D-200 and wanted to move into multi-cylinder super bike league before age catches up as I am already 41 In fact features of D-390 that are now available like Slipper Clutch etc are not available in Triumph Street Triple! Even LED indicators of Duke are brighter than standard indicators of TST. LED indicators of TST cost 5000/pair which doesn't seem worth at least now to me.

At a great price D-390 gets Metzeler tyres also...All in all it is best ever deal in Indian motorcycle - across all available models from piddly 100cc to ultra powerful 1000cc or higher demons....It looks very attractive in unorthodox way too! Carry on and continue covering more KM - ride safely!

Hey Jeevan. Lovely thread. And an equally lovely motorcycle. I love the street triple and for what it stands. Like you said, the Arrows will sound awesome. Trust me they do. Once she is warm that howl turns on like musical piece.
Do get the sliders its a good investment. I think Triumph sells those for the Street.

                      Have lots of fun.

P.S.: The Saree guard can come off ?

Hey mate, thanks for your comments...Surely Arrow exhaust within next 1-2 months will be fitted...I promise!

Saree Guard - Totally agree - in next visit to Triumph workshop I am going to get it removed as it makes no sense. Any woman can't sit on such a bike while wearing a Saree - unless it is a proper Maharashtrian Nau-waari Saree that allows women to sit similar to wearing pants/punjabi dress - there is no chance my wife is going to wear it!

I will also get frame sliders/other protective parts fitted prior to going for Arrow exhaust...in next 2 months, will complete all this...after that surely I should be able to add few pics...

Jeevan great review, This is an amazing color for the street triple you choose happy riding and also motivating potential super bike riders like me, Had a couple of questions.

                            a) Whats the highest mileage you have achieved in the ST just to understand the range

                            b) What were the other bikes you considered, in the street fighter segment, I am currently keen on the z800, being a 6 footer it kinda feels apt for me your sugessations and y I should strongly also consider the street triple your sugessations will be welcomed.

                              a) Whats the highest mileage you have achieved in the ST just to understand the range

                              Hi Vicky,

Just have a look at the start of this thread - I have given my inputs which bikes I considered and why I ended up choosing Triumph ST.

Highest mileage is so far 20 kmpl as I have not had much highway riding after 1st service was done. Most of my riding happens within city as of now in congested traffic so mileage drops to about 17 kmpl. I guess it can improve up to 22-23 kmpl on consistent highway rides when cruising at about 100 km/hr.

I'll explain part of the reasons below:

I had hardest time in deciding between Kawasaki Z800 and Triumph ST 675 especially because of the power output scandal of Triumph which I didn't like.
                              I had 99% decided on Kawasaki Z800...

It is the best bike you can get for less than Rs 10 lakh as of now in my opinion. But don't decide before you ride Kawasaki Z800 and Triumph ST back to back for longish distance - min 20 km...One can't understand various +/- things in a 2-3 km test ride that typically people will give you.

I was able to obtain long test rides from Triumph as well as Honda in Pune, DSK Benelli also were ready for long ride - only Kawasaki wasn't!! Long ride in variety of conditions convinced me of Triumph as a more practical choice despite being much pricier and less powerful - but it is very subjective thing. You won't go wrong at all if you choose Z800. Be ready for a bit lower mileage, faster tyre and brake wear, more frequent service intervals compared to Triumph ST in that case. Also all superbikes have large turning circle - but Z800 has larger than Triumph ST and it is heavier bike by at least 50 Kg than triumph. If you will ride only during weekend, it won't affect much - while riding it doesn't feel heavy at all - but when riding at <30 kmph in bumper to bumper traffic, all other bikes between 600-800 cc feel much heavier than Triumph ST. Also, despite reviews saying opposite, I found Triumph ST to be more comfortable for myself and pillion seat is also fairly good for its category. On z800 pillion is nearly out of question - do test that aspect.

If you mostly ride Solo, Z800 should be really good for you - so carefully weigh your options - do multiple test rides till you are fully convinced only then take the plunge as this is a very costly purchase that will impact your finances for a long term unless you have heavy bank balance!

If you don't mind about availability of ABS - then DSK Benelli 600i is very good choice also as it will save 2 lakhs compared to Kawasaki Z800/Honda CBR650F and 3 lakhs compared to Triumph ST. At least in Pune, DSK Benelli has emerged as a good motorcycle brand. I did not have the guts to buy a superbike without ABS - so had to choose higher price segment. OTherwise my choice would have been Benelli 600i.

Re: Red Rose - my new Triumph Street Triple 675 RED!

Thanks Jeevan you made a lot of great points in here....

                                Ive ridden the two bikes.

z800 is the best inline 4 cy money can buy, as far as usable horsepower is concerned i think it really dosent matter both ST and z800 are naked, and i wudnt go beyond 140 in these bikes, its the way u get there is what matters so 85 Hp vs 110 dosent really matter, plus the ST is lighter in weight as well and handles way better, STs inline 3cy is a legendary engine and delivers high performance despite the lower HP ratings in India.

The Purpose of me buying this bike.

                                1. its how fast i get to 0 - 140 power delivery matters will definitely not use the entire power band on tap with occasional short bursts, able to cruise and get the power @ any gear - i think the inline 4 cy of the z800 does a good job.
                                2. Service of the two cos - Triumph establishing but has once in year or 10 K service interval z800 as you said is 6k or 6 months.
                                3. ABS is a must which both bikes have.

Reliability is a key factor for both the bikes is where m stuck now.

m also looking at modern classic cruisers as options like the bonni and super low since i intend to cruise @ 100 - 120 KPH with good seats.
