Re: Red Rose - my new Triumph Street Triple 675 RED!

The first gear stalling issue seems to be persistent and looks like it hasn't been solved yet.

Honestly if you can afford a street triple why not look at the Ducati monster 821. Has more to offer and is a much Complete package

You should definitely evaluate Kawasaki Z800 and Triumph Street Triple before deciding...But I felt TST is more practical for day to day usage - even though it is not really value for money owing to much higher on-road price (close to Rs 85000 difference w.r.t Kawasaki Z800).

You can read more details on first page of my post - but in short you can choose like this:

      1) Triumph Street Triple - if - you don't mind extra cost, expect more comfort not just for rider but also pillion, want a light weight and nimble bike that is easy to ride in peak traffic as it is not too tall also (for me - I am 5 ft 10 in)
      2) Kawasaki Z800 - if - you want to save about Rs 85K - which will help you in buying entire protective kit (Fairly high end Helmet, Gloves, Jacket, Pants, Boots) along with the bike, you want max power and are ready to compromise a bit about comfort and day to day practicality (since Z800 is a bigger, taller and much heavier bike - can be a bit of pain in peak traffic though people do use it for commute also). Straight line acceleration of Z800 is definitely more than TST...

There are rumours of Street Triple going towards 800 CC in 2017 - not sure if you have that much patience or not! I certainly didn't have! If you have indeed decided, then don't worry as it is a very good and enjoyable yet practical machine for sure...Long term reliability I can't comment as my bike is still quite new...But on all global forums there is very good feedback about TST...
      Hi Jeevan,
I actually am in a dilemma about the Triple and the Z800. The cost is definitely a factor but the Triple seems much more practical in day to day usage. Also the humongous turning ratio and the general bulk of the bike.
The Street Triple on the other hand is definitely way pricey and then has a fair share of issues like stalling and the pathetic Triumph India management. Also drastically lesser power.
It's a classic case of head vs the heart. I know I'll be happy with the Z800, it has the looks, the power and the reliability but i still am not able to go with it with 100% conviction

I have heard about some amount of stalling issues - but my bike is too new right now so can't comment - I have completed just about 2800 km as of today and there is no stalling yet - people have reported around 4000-5000 km interval for it to appear..So, I will let you know may be in next 2 months..

I have privately sent you my number - you can give me a call..

I also don't know whether to call Triumph India being pathetic - it is very subjective....Lot of people said KTM is poorer quality than Jap bikes...But my experience with KTM was very good - though it is somewhat expensive to maintain for its category compared to Indian bikes. It is still cheaper to maintain than Kawasaki/Honda/Benelli I believe (consider Honda CBR 250, Kawasaki Z250, Benelli TNT 250 etc)...So not sure what to believe...I will have to find out...

At least till the point of selling the bike to you (and also as per my experience in 1st service) Triumph is way more friendly than other brands...Kawasaki is not even ready to give you a long test ride - they want you to just believe their brand and shell out Rs 8.2 lakh on basis of 2 km ride! Whereas Triumph is ready to let you ride their bikes (yes, even the costlier ones like Daytona!) for about 20-30 km to your satisfaction. I did 2-3 longish rides - alone as well as with pillion on Street Triple and finalized this bike - this happened even when initially I had almost decided on Z800 as my choice.

It is a tough call - but surely Street Triple is more practical on everyday rides...And don't worry about the power being lower....I am finding it every day that the power is more than sufficient to give you thrills and chills both!! The bike hits 170-180 in absolutely no time (z800 is even faster - but won't matter too much except during drag racing events - very few can have courage and skill to hit such speeds frequently) My top speed so far was achieved y'day on Ahmednagar - Pune road and for few moments I went to 174 kmph...On Pune-Bangalore road beyond Kolhapur towards Nipani/Belgaum, you should definitely be able to hit 200+ on TST. I think in India that is already too much - though there will always be better riders with more expensive machines who would be faster than us - that is only 0.0001% of entire Indian population...

Just be aware - any bike of this particular class (600 cc and above) will be a white elephant and will suck the money out of you very rapidly and continuously!!

Prepare your mindset and finances (and may be your parents/spouse etc whatever applicable!) towards this fact...

Re: Red Rose - my new Triumph Street Triple 675 RED!

Stalling issues is being faced by almost all the owners, even the sales guy at the showroom acknowledged the same and said they are working on a fix for the issue.

The staff at the dealership is definitely friendly and helpful but i was talking about the top management of Triumph given the de-tuning fiasco. And their reluctance now to acknowledge and address the stalling issue.
Regarding Kawasaki it's true about the test ride, I've hardly had the feel of the bike. You got 2 km, I was told that the management didn't allow it to be taken outside the complex!

What you said about the practicality of ST is definitely true, being lighter and nimble. I, myself, am not a heavy person and feel that ST would be more suited to me.

It's true about the finances, plus I'm putting in all of my money so every penny is gonna pinch. And I should thank you! It's actually you who has been responsible for fast tracking my process by at least a year. I read about the top up loans from you on this thread and came up with the idea of taking one on my parent's home loan.

The heart says ST but i don't want to take a decision without testing both of them properly and the Kawasaki/ Bajaj management is an utter disappointment in this regard. They are expecting me to shell out more than 8 lacs without even being able to take it above the first gear!

I got your number, will definitely ping you, thanks!

Just 2 kms test ride is crazy... They needed to be reminded that they are "Just" sales people and not owners nor doing any obligation to us by providing test rides. (period)

Frankly I have recieved test rides on preety much every motorcycle I intended to purchase in my 2 weeks of hunting for a bike since the last week of dec. Although had to admit that Kawasaki Chennai & Ducati Blr did try to act a little funny... but they obliged for the test rides...

I rode the Kawasaki for a good 20 mins which for me was enough to understand the vehicle, blr ducati was more of a messy situation cos there was no way / place to test the potential of the bike in blr traffic (though could have negotiated and asked them to bring the bike elsewhere for a test ride but i was in a hurry and was leaving the city the same day)

With Benelli, i took about 4 test rides-
1st one was a short 3-4 km ride
2nd were a repeat ride to compare the feel after riding a z800
3rd was a good 10-15 kms ride which took close to 45 mins (more of zooming)
4th was again another 10-15 kms ride which was for about an hour (wanted to test the bike on heating and bumber to bumper city traffic)

IMO, shoot a mail to Kawasaki management about the Pune dealer's behavior.

I agree. Kawasaki is losing customers (I am included in this!) because of their bad attitude in terms of test ride. Nobody in their sane mind can decide to just buy a big bike costing 8+ lakhs purely on the basis of its name...Z800 is good - but without getting its feel for longer run across various conditions - one should not buy it that way...

A fellow biker is always welcome! Yaar, I am hearing of stalling issues on Triumph Whatsapp forum as well - but as I already said, mostly people have got it after 5-6K km and I am currently at 3000 km only on the ODO - so unable to comment. I have not faced it yet. It is possible that may be I ride it in a particular way due to which also I am not facing this kind of issue. The only stalling I have faced on this bike is for a different reason - first gear of TST is rather tall. So, if you have to move the bike from a standstill in packed traffic at very slow speed, then you need to deftly control the clutch and not abruptly release it. If you do that at low speeds, the torque of engine is insufficient and bike can stall or operate in jerky manner. The clutch action must be handled by rider in very gradual manner - in few days one gets used to it and after that it is not much problem.
Some people have changed the front chain sprocket (15 teeth instead of 16 teeth of stock sprocket) - but some liked the effect of this (bike becomes much more urgent and stalls far less in packed traffic) and some have not - they moved back to original setting.

First 2-3 days I occasionally faced this type of stalling and now I don't face it. The stalling discussed by other people who are TST riders is of a different kind. They are saying that idle RPM of engine drops lower and lower over a period of time - then if you happen to coast by pressing clutch while riding at a reasonably high speed prior to pressing the clutch, the engine just shuts down as the idle setting becomes inadequate to keep engine running...But I have not yet faced this...If your bike is in motion at say 60-80 kmph and you pressed clutch for any reason and completely released accelerator, you would still expect the bike's engine to idle - not shut down. If it does shut down, it can cause problems for you...I'll watch out and publish if I face this kind of issue in near future when I cross 5-6K km

Re: Red Rose - my new Triumph Street Triple 675 RED!

Took delivery of a 2014 dec Street Triple yesterday. The bike was awesome. But the tyres are done. Some points i noted while riding 198 kms on the first day (note that my previous bike is CBR250R and i have no prior experience with superbikes)
                * the bike is immensely powerful. Twist the throttle and the bike will fly.
                * Clutch is a bit heavy. My fingers still ache from an hour long ride in b2b traffic.
                * Brakes are phenominal.
                * riding position is a bit sporty (I'm 5.6 ft tall) but very comfortable
                * Seats are well paded and has got room too.
                * Suspension is spot on for Indian roads
                * Scrapped the belly once. But could have easily avoided it. Ground clearance is not bad at all.
                * Throttle response is accurate.
                * windblast is evident. But guess I'll get used to it.
                * i thought i knew how to ride a bike. But i have never been so wrong. Still got a lot to learn.

Now for some questions for you owners
                * sometimes the gear shift was smooth but sometimes it was really hard. I also found false neutral coupla times. Is it normal?
                * while i finished riding and was about to park it, the silencer made a noise as if some steel ball was dancing inside. Is it somethin to be concerned?
                * how many tools did you guys get with your bikes?
                * how many keys did you get ?
                * are you guys using any wind/fly screen? ( the bike came fitted with triumph flyscreen)
                * is there anyway i can bring back the original colour of the silencer pipes? Its looks a bit burned now.

Please note that this is my first step into the superbike world and pardon my newbie and silly questions.

                  Hi friend,

I'll try to share my thoughts with respect to your questions:

Now for some questions for you owners
                  * sometimes the gear shift was smooth but sometimes it was really hard. I also found false neutral coupla times. Is it normal?
                  >> Yes, majority of larger bikes don't shift as smoothly as say a KTM Duke 200 or even Pulsar 200NS. So, your experience is quite normal. Especially when engaging 1st gear from stand still, you will hear a distinct thud and the chain will shake for sure- I have seen it on all super bikes I tested - though I am also relatively new to super bikes..
So, do not worry. Not sure if you used to ride Yamaha RD 350 anytime in the past. Behaviour of street triple gear box is quite similar to that. With time you will get used to it and won't find false neutrals.

                  * while i finished riding and was about to park it, the silencer made a noise as if some steel ball was dancing inside. Is it somethin to be concerned?
                  >> Actually it may not have been sound of silencer - are you sure? When you shut down, there is some amount of small but audible ringing sound - that is the fuel injection system shutting down. At the time of starting up bike, when you turn on the key, that time also similar sound comes.

                  * how many tools did you guys get with your bikes?
                  >> The bike has very basic tools - just one L shaped screw driver, couple of Allen Keys - that's all..No spark plug spanner!

                  * how many keys did you get ?
                  >> Always there are 2 keys with any bike

                  * are you guys using any wind/fly screen? ( the bike came fitted with triumph flyscreen)
                  >> Originally I didn't have any fly screen but currently having standard Triumph flyscreen. To feel the difference due to it - once you reach about 120-130 kmph on open highway, you can tuck your head below and you can feel that wind screen is causing the airflow above your helmet and it will allow you to reach higher speeds..

                  * is there anyway i can bring back the original colour of the silencer pipes? Its looks a bit burned now.
                  >> No, original colour of pipes as in showroom lasts only few days..That is true for almost any bike except those with chrome plated/stainless steel or black anodized exhausts..Afterwards it will slowly change its colour - don't worry there is nothing wrong with it..

You can read more info within my write up - but as you mentioned you have recently started riding this bike, please do respect it. It is great fun - but very dangerous if handled incorrectly. It is way too fast for any newcomer (which I am not - and yet it is quite fast for me too).

In straight line, you will adjust to control it within 3-4 days probably. The brakes are immensely powerful. So beware - keep distance between you and the vehicle in front. If that person brakes suddenly, you can easily stop in time - but people behind you will not be able to brake so rapidly and they can hit you from behind. So, avoid surprising people behind you. 99.9% people behind you will not be on superbike - almost all of them don't even really know how to brake properly. Most people still think as if Motorcycles are cycles with engines and they use only rear brake 80% of the time - many never use front brakes! This makes their stopping distance very long and unfortunately people like you and me have to make allowances for these folks...

Increase your top speed week on week...Practice on whatever curvy roads you get nearby within 80-100 km distance...Don't try to go too fast for first few days...Slowly you will get confidence...The bike has really lightening fast responses to anything we do - so be careful....But it is very practical and easy to ride bike also - so nothing to be scared of. Just don't overdo anything.

Here you go. From personal experience.. This is the best thing you can buy out there to keep your silencer headers looking beautiful. Plus it's from Yoshimura, so don't doubt the quality one bit.

You could always get a heat wrap installed ! i'd say ask the dealership if it voids the warranty and if they can help out with the install.! Plus you can buy them cheap on aliexpress!

Thank you so much for your answers. It was really helpful. And yes i am very sure the sound is from the silencer and it is also clearly audible. Shot a video of it too but dont know how to share it here.

Thank you but I'm not a fan of wraps. I think it suits better for cruisers. Just my personal opinion.

Ticking noise from exhaust is caused by contracting metal once when it starts cooling, its normal.

Congrats buddy, how are you managing to ride in Palani roads and traffic. Do you have a service centre or do you have to ride down to nearby place to get it serviced.
