School days came and went, used to jump at every chance I got to sit behind my big brother on his CD100SS (A Big Deal Then... ) Then came the 1st generation CBZ and I was legally allowed to ride a bike (Got my Two Wheeler License...) Had my 1st crash in just 1st 50 meters of riding that beast! I was baptised! Hence My father got me a Hero Honda Street with Electric Start! Although it was more of a utility bike which even the ladies rode, it always got that twinkle in my eyes. No other 100 cc motorcycle then came with an electric start (to my knowledge).
Two years of extensive riding, and reaching my 1st year of engineering, decided to go for Pulsar 150 (The 1st generation, ball crusher) 2001 to 2008 was a fabled time for me, Riding around Pune and going up to Bangalore and back in the days when GQ was still a Myth!
Anyways, fast forwarding to my Time in Delhi when I got me a Pulsar220 F DTSi since I still couldn't get my hands on a Ninja! every time we used to meet at xBHP dhaba on sundays I could only drool over an occasional sighting of a superbike. Promised myself to get a SBK as soon as I could. Managed to do a few bursts to Pune from Delhi on 24 hours clock cause it was more fun to ride than sit in a train or fly...
Moved to London, Got married in 2011, Priorities changed, family was more important now, worked my butts off, collected enough money to go for a new SBK but still didn't go for it since family takes precedence. I Used to talk to mom and wife about my dream of owning a superbike everytime I got a chance. 4 years and no rides (Apart from Home to work and relatives and in laws doesn't really count as a ride) started to take a toll on me.
Wife and Mom then decided that the only way I could regain my head was if i got myself a bike. The forced me to get my 1st Superbike a Benelli 600GT from DSK motowheels, Pune and that was the beginning of a fairytale for me! June 22nd 2015 was the day the GT came home!
Benelli GT 600 on maiden ride to Tamhini Ghats
Somehow my wish to own a Superbike wasn't satisfied there since I thought you're not a true owner of a SBK unless you've owned a Liter Class.. Anyways, more on that later.
Took to the roads soon... did a few 1000 kms round trips around Pune and Bangalore. Got along with a few Benelli Owners who were active and formed a Benelli Owners group of Pune where everyone who owned any Benelli were invited for Weekly rides. till September I was "normal again" and was out on roads every chance I got.. with or without my wife (bless her heart.. she tells me to go solo since she thinks her staying with me bothers me and I cannot enjoy my rides).
A Few Rides with Benelli Group...
Anyways had the urge to go for a small (sized) bike for city rides since Pulsar was getting old and could only be used for solo and short rides or running errands. Got a KTM RC 390 by the end of September which became my daily use bike. Small, Nimble, Fast, Loud and low on maintainance, just what I was looking for...
The Day Pocket Rocket RC390 came home.
A few Short Rides around Pune on RC 390
Days passed till december when I was out with my friends on a ride to MAPRO WAI, when I was told there was a Honda CB1000R for sale. Done just 1375 kms, 2010 Model Black and for a reasonable amount. Got the urge to go look at the bike and meet the owner, but the thought of everyone in the family fuming at me getting a 3rd bike in the same year when I should be concentrating on work and family was haunting me. But a Liter Class Bike for an amount which was too tempting to let go of. Visited the owner and discussed about the bike, its history and price. Same night over dinner put a word infront of my parents about the CB1000R and Dad wasn't happy. However, the two ladies of the house were happy to see my dream garage getting complete with this addition and told me to go ahead if my finances approved of the move.
And on 2nd January 2016...
The CB came home...
Was able to do just one ride on the Honda till now but it has been a BLAST! Some pictures of the ride...
And, so the dream of truly owning a super bike was complete... and the dream garage looks something like this...
