  • Triumph Street Triple Long term ownership Experience ( 2+ Years)

    Dear readers,

Finally I am back with another thread. This time on Why I bought the Street Triple, Should You buy a Street or even a Triumph, What to expect etc etc.

To Kick the thing off take look at 3 street triple photos I clicked before I booked my bike back in 2014.

    Why Street Triple?

For some this is a valid question. Especially for those who haven't heard much about Triumph before they came to India.
Back in 2014 There wasn't too many options. Considering today's scenario lets evaluate all available options in the middle weight:

    1. Triumph Street Triple
    2. Kawasaki Z800
    3. Ninja 650
    4. Er6N (now Z650 )
    5. Versys 650
    6. Hyosung Gt650
    7. Benelli TNT 600i
    8. Benelli tNT 600 GT
    9. Honda CBR 650

Each of these bikes are good in their own way, but you cant buy all of them

So here is the truth, I am not that guy running after more cylinders just for the sake of it.

What I was looking for is the best that I can buy. Best means a few things for me, Great handling, Great build quality, minimal weight, good performance.

Z800 and Street triple here are above the rest for proper super middle weight roadsters. Z is more powerful than the triple. But it is almost 50 Kg Heavier.

It is unbelievable that even TNT 600i weighs 231 Kgs.

Lets take it straight There is no beating 182 Kg Street Triple in this department. Its such a light bike, every one feels comfortable on it instantly. More so for a smaller guy like me. It is derived from a super sport and it shows. It is a very good on road tourer. Triple is different. It is unlike a 4, it isn't that smooth but it is smooth as silk for a triple.
Build quality is absolutely top notch. Take a look at the Benelli bikes and look back at the Triumph roadsters, you will get it.

So only other bike I like here very much is the Versys 650. For its Touring capabilities and its equipment . Its a great bike.
I wont buy the TNTs or Hyosung GT over the Kawasakis. even if they got more Cylinders. I will rather take quality and trust in the brand.

With all the options given, if I am asked to choose one now, I will choose the Street again. That might be the Street is the costliest of the lot.

    Buying Experience

    Will follow..

          BuyingExperience

Called up BU Bhandari Triumph, Pune, requested for a test ride of street triple. Response was warm. They brought the bike to my office, After my test ride I really really liked the bike and was sad that I can't buy Street Triple R in India. However I was positive about it coming to India (Which it wasn't). Emailed Triumph India regarding 'R' . for which they didn't even bothered to give a good reply.

Triumph, Pune said it will take 2 months for them to deliver me the bike after booking.

Triumph, Cochin on the other side promised in in less than one month! That was perfect. As you know, we riders don't have huge patience.

Picked it up from Cochin finally. Since I was not sure how lobf I will be in Pune, avoided hypothication.

1 how important, apart from frame slipers, axle sliders important
            2. How often should I lube the chain
            3. Should I invest in paddok
            4. Apart from arrow if I change the exhaust system to scorpion does it have any adverse effect

              Hi Congratulations for the Triple.

              1. Try to get engine case savers if possible
              2. You should lube the chain every 300 kms with thorough cleaning at every 1000 kms.
              3. You should invest in paddock if you can, will help to keep the chain safe in long run.
              4. You can get whichever pipe you want but only side effect is SVC guys creating an issue when you have some warranty replacement.

                  1. Fork protectors and swingarm spools/protectors are good to have. I will suggest to have them.
                  2. Depends on your riding conditions. As soon as it becomes dry. It will be around 500 for some 1000 for others.
                  3. Absolutely, if you are a DIY guy.
                  4. I dont see any side effects. Arrow is a heavy can.

                      H,
I have just touched 600 Kms mark and bike bike has stalled twice in First gear and once in 5th Gear while riding. Would getting arrow installed will reduce the problem?. I have already seen your video on stalling issue. Waiting for the DIY video on how to clean throttle bodies.
