  • Used Diavel or Speed Triple

    Hi guys

Need your help. I have an offer from Ducati, they are willing to sell me an unregistered 2015 Dark Diavel bike at cost of 1450000 INR. It's a demo bike only but Ducati guys did mention that it was taken once to IBW. They also mentioned I will be getting all the perks of new bike and nothing will be compromised . Bike is in pristine condition and showroom guys look trustworthy. New Diavel, on road price in Bangalore costs 1791800 lakes.

But, my confusion is should I go for a used bike or go for a new bike itself, after all, I am spending close to 15Lakhs and there are many options in market for that price range. Personally, I love naked bikes but, Ducati Diavel has been my dream bike since its inception in 2011 and since, I am getting a good deal, thought it would make sense to go for it . But, I am considering Triumph Speed Triple which costs close 1400000 lakes on road. Appreciate, if you guys can let me know what are the pros and cons of buying a demo/used bike or should I just buy a new bike to be on safer side.

Bike, will be used only for highway rides but, on a rare occasion I may for for a ride within city. Lastly, I am yet to take a test ride of both but, have fixed an appointment for next Saturday.

I am 5ft 8in guy and bike will be financed through loan.

    Thanks

    Query Approved

The bikes as you know are very different. So do ride them both. Try to get longer and proper test rides.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Thanks Monk, but my question is more in terms of is it safe to go for a demo bike or not.

In 10 days, it will be a 2 model-year old bike. Depreciation will be more than what you're saving there (3.45L). Just spring for the extra and go for a brand new Diavel, YOLO.

Re: Used Diavel or Speed Triple

17.91l is price of new 2017 lineup. the bike you are offered was around 16 on road in delhi. little more in bangalore that should be. price of 2015 diavel darks in used mkt 3-5k kms on odo is around 12.5 to 13 asking with few accesories. these bikes were usually purchased brand new and are usually single owner bikes. further they d depreciate in next month or so which means you can get one for below 12. nearly 11ish. i would go for the offered diavel at 14.5 if-
1 it was a 2017 model or if the 2015 models retailed for 17.91
2 it was not a demo but a display bike. never ridden.
          3. additional goodies were thrown into deal like a 3 year maintenance holiday.
a bike ridden by the owner and a bike ridden by test riders and showroom sales guys - the comparison is easy.
lastly , modern ducatis are very very reliable. even a demo bike wont necessarily be a lemon. you can buy but at twice the discount.

That's was some good analysis ENTSURGEON and I feel so stupid that I did not think your way. Truly appreciate for taking time to give a detailed reply. I called up VST ducati guy in Bangalore and was able to negotiate and bring the price to 14L but, he said that's the max he could reduce. But, would you be able to let me know what you mean 3 year maintenance holiday, sorry if the question sounds silly. But, I am bit of noob.

Brand new on road price of Diavel is almost 18L that's pretty costly and will have to really stretch my budget which at the moment is very thin. But, will use my Bargaining skills to get the bike price further down. [emoji1] Wish me luck

Buy a brand new Speed Triple, do not go for the used demo Diavel. Taken to the IBW once also means it is used/abused quite a bit.

The Speed Triple is an awesome machine and since it will brand new you will get the warranty etc besides using a new machine.

                Cheers

But, don't you think I should probably get a expert mechanic to check the Diavel condition, before I take a call on whether to buy a new bike or not.

To put it bluntly, NO. If this was a normal used bike purchase then what you say would be fine. This one is a demo bike which has been ridden by so many people, not only ridden but properly abused for sure.

I have ridden the Speed Triple and Diavel for around 30 minutes each. Both are different machines as such, while the Diavel is a really powerful cruiser the Speed is a demon. The handling and riding pleasure you will get with the Speed will be much more in my opinion than the Diavel.

When you are spending your hard earned 14 lakhs why not buy complete peace of mind with a brand new machine.

Its your choice and money, but, I would not buy a demo bike for this kind of money.

                    Cheers

Thanks Cyborg, ur inputs are very helpful. I am going for Diavel test drive tommorow and Speed triple day after. I will shortlist a few more bikes if things don't go down well with Diavel. Will keep you posted. [emoji4]

kindly check my last line. i am not dead against buying this. i am against buying it at these prices. the reason is you are getting similar vintage diavels for around 12L. it seems your heart is set on diavel but this is not the last diavel on the planet.
maintenance holiday means if instead of upfront discount, they offer you annual services including consumables oil filter etc for next few yrs. expect its value to be 10-12k per service. essentially this should include a warranty that covers her bumper to bumper and should be good for at least 2 to 3 yrs. if the bike is not a crashed one and otherwise good, i d still not pay over 11 L if no warranties and freebies are offered.
understand that essentially what they are selling you is a used 2015 diavel. they are charging you a premium because it has never been billed and on papers you would be a first owner. also clarify the regn charges of bike. in some states they charge you penalty for not registering the bike immediately after delivery.

Finally was able to see the Diavel bike in real, but rode it for a less than a kilometre. Tommorow I will be going for a longer test drive around 20kms. But, I already have my apprehensions

                          1. Bike has a scratch on tank which was caused during test drive by a rider wearing a thick belt and he had bent down to avoid wind blast. They have added a 3M protection film to protect the tank from any further scratches and but the scratch will stay forever. 3M protection is a glossy finish while the bike is Matt finish due to which the bike looks are out of place. But, it can be removed after all its just a cover is what the sales guy said.

                          2. Rear tyre looks pretty used, hence asked if they would replace it with a new one and the answer was NO. FYI- replacing the rear tyre will set me back by 30000 [emoji15].

                          3. No maintenance holiday will be given. Infact I have only 11 months warranty. Requested them to make it 2 years warranty and the answer again was NO.

                          4. Lastly, the TAK TAK sound from chain when riding at lower gears was very obvious and ruined the whole riding experience and they said they will fix it by adding a rubber piece to the sheet against which it bangs to reduce that noise.

                          5. Exhaust note was not exciting at all for me. I felt it was more of noise than sound. No offence to Diavel owners.

I am already tilting towards a NO[emoji20] [emoji20] for this bike. I am going to talk to Naganandan from VST Ducati one last time tommoro and will ask him to get the price down to 12 or lesser. If not, I will have to really think hard about other options. Yes. My heart is set on Diavel coz it's a bike which has a sports bike features, yet willing to accommodate a pillion with ease which is important for a guy who is married like me. I hate cruisers and certainly won't buy one so, the left out category is Naked bikes which again does not offer me best of both worlds like Diavel.

Below is few pics of bikes I took before test ride
