    Bringing bikes to India

    Hey guys, I know this topic might have been discussed here before but, I needed some clarifications on how many bikes can be brought back to India.
    Just to help understand the situation, I have 4 bikes, 3 R1's(05,06,07) and a zx6r and want to bring them all to India. Can I? Is there a limitation on the number?What is the tax?

    Any help in answering these questions would be greatly appreciated.

    I am importing these bikes from the United States and have lived here for 10 years now(if that even matters)

    100% tax on all your bikes. The evaluation will be done by the Customs officials present. If your bikes are all 800cc+ then you will not have any penalty to pay.

      Thanks Ken,appreciate your help. I guess I need to do a couple more digging.Wonder, if its part of a business if I might get some concession.

            BTW, I think you have a limit on the bikes you can import as an individual (I think it is 1 bike only). You can do it on TR (and before you ask, TR can be availed once in 2 or 3 years and it has nothing to do with your leaving US for good or not. You can claim TR and continue to work/stay in abroad). Bikes can only be imported thru certain air & seaports (for example: bangalore is not an authorized airport for this and hence you will have to pay an additional penalty for that if you choose bangalore). You can check the Indian Customs website for more info. In a nutshell individuals importing bikes is a big PIA in India and will cost a lot of money and hazzels.

            A new bike touring company in Bangalore has recently imported few Suz DR650. Probably, you can contact them as well for more information such as the clearing agent who did it for them etc. Their website is http://www.indimotard.com/index.html

                I do have a company here in the US that caters to the bike racing world...might try and import using that or set up a company in India

                  As Ken sir said ... below 800cc will mean some penalty, so I think it won't be a good idea to bring the 600 (though I guess its better suited to the roads here, I dnt know)

                      Hey I am very much a Bawa from Parsi colony Dadar. I am a Marine engineer so I travel and also do the mechanicals of my bikes myself. It saves money and gives you satisfaction of a job well done
