Would you buy the 848 or the Hypermotard 1100?

I guess both cost the same.

If I had that kind of money, I would have bought the Hypermotard!

The 848 is more of a racing genre, I would not want that as a long term bike!

The hyper 1100 was launched in 2007 and the 796 now. It was a huge success, that is the reason why theyve upgraded the hypermotard evo sp to accomodate for the entry level 796.

And I dont agree that the 696 was discontinued because the "pros" thought it wasnt powerful enough. It was also a huge success with the pros and the cons :P
I own a 696 and I abs love it. It is more powerful than the other bikes in its class with more torque than any of the supersports. Its a blast to ride, so comfortable, I miss it sometimes when im on my 1198.

Hey I didnt say te 696 was underpowered or anything. What I meant was that the people taking the 696 to the tracks found it underpowered as compared to the Inline 4 japs, and hence somewhere down the line Ducati decided to up the ante by plonking in the Hypermotards 803CC engine... then again I am no owner of either of the bikes, I just speak from my fanboysim to them and the info that I got from reading/watching stuff etc... I repeat, I am no Ducati expert, nor an owner (though I drool over them all the time, and have sleepless nights whenever I come across any!)

I've been told the first batch of 10 ducatis has been despatched and should be landing in Mumbai in Mid Sept - 5 Monster 796s and 5 848s.
I had called to enquire about the booking but was told that I had missed the bus (ship). Only 10 bikes were alloted for India in the first batch. I'll have to wait till Nov if I book now !!
Apparently Ducati is closed for a month every year this time for holiday / upgradation !

The HYM1100 Evo/Evo SP(older versions have been discontinued) is essentially a Supermotard. Supermotard are "Dirtbikes" designed for primarily road/street use since the tyres are tarmac bases and the suspension is just to stiff for dirt, undulated surfaces. However one can take'em off-road for a short burst. Not advised though. These bikes back in the early 90s were as quick as some 600 fours. The purpose of supermotards was to allow riders(on tight budget) a feel of superbike performance for a low cost(lower than most 600s) . Make no mistakes these bikes are more difficult to ride than most superbikes because of the specific tyre that moved a lot and the Ride Height which is more than most superbike. The rider sits preety tall and has a very unusual view up ahead. One can only see the front tyre. The Orginal HYM1100 was designed by Ducati to take on the KTM 950SM. However KTMs were designed for dirt use, Ducati went the other way round, the RACETRACK. The HYM1100Evo/Evo SP(the newer version) is one insane bike. Light weight at 172/171KGS. 95BHP@7500rpm and 10.5kgm@5750. It does 0-100 in 3.5 sec. Topspeed in excess of 220km/hr. Its more of an all-rounder, it has the spunk just like a SBK to keep up with most SBKs and is also easier around town. Its the one i would go for since in India one is hardly able to venture above 240km/hr for more than a few seconds and neither one is able to use all the available all the hp on tap. The HYM1100Evo/Evo SP also come with performance upgrades from Ducati Corse. Exhaust, Racing cams, Carbonfibre parts, Magnesium and Titanium parts the list is almost endless. The HYM 1100Evo/Evo SP are just like the monster 1100, but the monster's a nice bike the HYM is a DEVIL. Ducati wanted HYM to be a SBK with less weight and simplicity. It may not be a SBK in a conventional sense but very few conventional SBKs offer such a novel motorcycling experience.
So if you think the HYM is just another Air-cooled Ducati.........think again.

Which Ducati in colour(1198 or 848) comes with Red colour chasis. I saw one in Raipur today and to my disbelief he is my neighbour who had a CBR Fireblade. When i saw the bike he was doing more than 120 kmph but i didnt like the sound of the bike it was not as good as the Fireblade.

I believe the red and white 848evo models and the 1198s and 1198sp models have the red frames. The base 1198 and stealth 848evo have black frames.
