most of the bikes are without no. plates...why is that?
I think there was a mention about this somewhere earlier in this thread. Its cause they have a form of "goonda raj" there. Bikes belong to whos who of Pakistan and police is helpless.
Each and every bike imported in Pakistan is legal since illegal bikes are not allowed. The reason due to which many bikers do not register their bikes is that bikes with registration plates of one city are hard to sell in another city. For example, Karachi bikes are hard to sell in Lahore or Islamabad.
Most of these bikes are caught by police hundreds of times but they cannot do anything due to the ‘elite’ and ‘political’ backgrounds of the bikers. Some law enforcement exists in the capital city, Islamabad, but there is a lot of lawlessness in other cities like Lahore and Karachi.
All bikers belong to high class elite families and the police cannot do anything against them. If ever a biker is rightfully caught while breaking a law, he has to be set lose immediately because of a “call” from some higher up.
But this still does not mean that the bikes are illegal. If the bikes were illegal then those would have been caught instantly by customs and/or the agencies.
If agency people get hold of an illegal bike they never return it. Instead it is scrapped at once. The only aim of the bike enthusiasts is to get the bike in the country and therefore they pay full duty on it (which considerably increases the overall cost of the bike as well). There are laws but many times are not enforced so there is little chance that these bikers get caught while racing or doing the rest of their stuff.
