  • Rd 400

I finished my RD 400 project a few days back thought will share the pics here.
The bike was a WB registered RD 250F that has the same body and frame as the RD400F
The bike was in shagged condition when i bought it. As usual i was told that the bike was on un-sleeved 3rd OS barrels and it turned out to be std sleeved.

The bike wasn't running at all even though it was in decent condition to look at. used to do around 75mph

The plan was to do up the bike and the estimate came up to close to a lakh. with un-sleeved barrels, ART pistons, crank rebuild, paint , chrome etc

Then i got this idea of importing the Rd 400 engine completely and make it a 400.
So i bought an engine and got it shipped over a period of time. It costed a bomb though ;-)
So finally after the whole engine was here minus the clutch we stripped the bike for painting and chrome etc.

Then i had this idea of using a P220 front and Rd350 rear on the bike for better braking.
one the spoke wheels were on the bike it didn't look like a Rd400 so put the alloys back on the bike and stuck to stock looks.

So finally after 18 months and spending 1.8L including the bike cost and other charges. This is how it looks. the bike is still on WB reg and says RD250 but who cares.

Got the bike back from the mech today. It now has a new clutch bell, primary along with new plates [ both fiber and steel].
The brakes are still a pain and the front fork is leaking need to work on them soon.
planning on going for spoke wheels. P220 front and Rd350 AC rear.

The bike pulls well but the rear brake keeps holding it back. Rd 400 pipes on the way from USA then will sell the pipes on this bike. They are on of the cleanest ones you can ever find in india. Chromed only once still have the part # also on them ;-)

sorry for the crappy pics took them on the way to office from my mobile.
