  • Restoration of a Classic YAMAHA RX100 (1989)

    Hello Dear xBhpians,

I am restoring my close friend's father's classic Yamaha RX100, 1989 model. After seeing all my RX's his father wanted to rebuild his RX100 like mine. When he got the bike it was in very bad shape as it was standing still for the last few years, even the engine had given up.

Although have been extremely busy with my hectic schedule i have been able to collect almost 100% OE Yamaha spares over a span of 3 months (Spare prices of genuine spare parts are sky high and almost scarce these days. Have paid a bomb as most of the spares are all at a premium price above MRP). Nothing is available even at the Yamaha Factory outlet Mumbai other than accelerator cable and clutch cable. Almost all parts other than the chasis, clyinder, head, etc will be brand new.

    Planning to plonk:

    1) Gladiator Front End Disk Assy
    2) Ravi Nagesh CDI & 90/100 Lighting Kit
    3) New Tyres (Michelin)
    4) OE Black Tank & Panels
    5) RXZ Meter console
    And the list goes on......

Posting a few pictures. Will be posting more pictures soon..

Wish me luck and your kind advises are most welcome

    Cheers!!

All the best Arun for the re-build. Should be a breeze for you

Hope the silencer and muffler is in good condition so that it produces the characteristic RX100 sound

Thanks a lot Nitin for your wishes!

The silencer is in very bad shape as it has rusted completely from the insides. Needs to be changed very badly. Hoping to use the muffler/core of the old silencer in the new silencer.

Stripped the bike completely and gave the chassis & engine center casings for sand blasting. Engine was in very bad shape running on a seized local piston. Was surprised to see a YBX 6V wiring in the bike.

                Posting a few pics!!

Arun, all the best for the restoration. I know it would be a one hell of a task to go through parts manual to procure all the spares. Your previous restoration projects must have given enough confidence and know the best way to get the RX100 out in a showroom condition.

I'll be the last to complete my bike's restoration..

Restoration of Yamaha RX is great to watch.
The meters looks original and the bike is looking pretty stock with many OE goodies.
All the best for the restoration...
