  • need an advice on rx 100

Guyz, im looking to restore my RX100 '95 model to its former glory. Not that its in a bad condition now, but i'm thinking about taking up major painting work right from the frame to the body panels.
I would like to upgrade this bike:
    1. Disc Brakes Front Wheel.
    2. Replace Both Front and Rear Shockers.
My Budget is around 15 K. Please advise what brand and specifications for these parts (OEM/ non OEM) should I go for?

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Post the bike picture and brief the current status. Go through the 2 stroke restoration threads to have an idea. First you'll need to understand your bike before you take a plunge into restoration. Money, Patience, time and knowledge will be your mantra to success. All the best.

The budget you have might not be enough for a complete restoration. Yamaha OE prices have skyrocketed in the past few months. The complete new OE front forks with disc setup now costs about 13.5k n rear shocks - 1.4k . You need to first make a list of parts that need to be replaced. Check the condition of the engine and piston and then take it further. As Sriram said, post a pic of the bike .

First Congratulations for the restoration...As said by Yamdoot and Sriram post your bike's picture... Rear suspensions we have a variety of options it depends on your comfort and requirements regarding the front shocks it is better to stay in OE..

Hi Shannon. IMO the RX100 does not really require a front disc setup for the amt of power it puts out.. However, this is completely subjective and ur opinion may differ.

The cheapest disc setup u can use on an RX is the old pulsar setup. It will save u a good amount of money and is very effective too.

Rear shocks try getting OE or Gabriel ones both are good.

Painting the bike is not really too costly an affair. Should cost u approx 3-4K upwards for the whole bike depending on where u get it done and the quality of paint u choose.

              All the best!!

Instead of painting go for new tank and side panels especially if there is rust in the tank. New tank will give you a hassle free service for years. This is just my opinion.
Like Yamadoot told for all these you should increase the budget a little more.
Go for OEM to be free from future headaches!

+1 go for new tank and side panels, also considering the price of chroming and all if i were in your place will be doing the following.

                  a) Chassis checked and trued and with the help of a welder or fabricator get the rust spots and all sorted and then old paint removed and painted black again.
                  b) swing arm, side stand, center stand, front foot rest bar and rear foot rest hangers to be painted black matching the frame along with the brake torque rod.
                  c) engine side covers, chain cover, front and rear hubs and brake plates(if you are not going for disc brake front hub and plate needs painting).
                  d) All fittings and fasteners to be zinc plated.
                  e) Silencer bend pipe, silencer pipe to be chromed

                  Buy new
                  a) Tank and side panels
                  b) brake lever
                  c) gear changing pedal
                  d) foot rest rubbers and rear foot rests
                  e) Rear Shock absorbers
                  f) rear grab rail
                  g) seat assembly
                  h) all new cables, wheel bearings, sprocket rubber and chain and sprocket kit
                  i) meter set with pilot boxes and new key set with new tank cap unit
                  j) new wiring kit
                  k) Indicator set and tail light
                  l) new head light stay with head light assembly
                  m) new front and rear mudguards and new handle bar and cone set bearing
                  n) new rims and spokes and wheels laced with new tyres
                  o) Change the gearbox oil, check the clutch plates, use good fuel tap and filter, change any oils seals, new head gasket, exhaust gasket and bend pipe gasket, burn off the carbon from the baffles.

If you are buying the front assembly with disc brake, get the front forks of the gladiator both inner and outer with its internals and RX t-stem and top-plate which is not the central locking one(if u go for central locking then it will need some changes to the chassis before it goes for painting. so do that thing first before you send it for painting), disc rotor, brake caliper and master with the speedo worms.

Front end work if going to be done should be done before painting the reason being gladiator front end if am correct comes with black coloured fork lowers. So once its set you can dismantle the bike for painting it in OE silver colour so will look same

I might have missed something here but for all these you should be looking for around 30-35K easily. But depending on how you source parts and handle the things with your mechanic again matters...So 15K budget will be only for the front end

                    Hi..

You can also go for the pulsar 180 front suspension set with disc brakes. which gives you a very good steering control and braking. I've the one which is awesome for short cuts in the city..
                    Regards,
