  • Restoration Project - 1968 Jawa

Picked up 1968 Jawa today. Jawa was long pending in my list .

    Bike Details:
    Jawa Type 353
    Year: 1968
    Capacity: 250 cc
    Color : Black
    State of Registration: Delhi

The bike is in OK OK condition and good thing that engine is firing .
I will keep on updating the progress in upcoming weeks. Planning for the engine work next weekend.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Thanks moderator for approval. Thank IronHide Shetty for wishes.

I am planning to get the work done in two stages .

        Stage I : Engine work.
Stage II: Denting, painting, chrome and other cosmetics.

I am new to jawa world , can someone please recommend engine oil grade for this model.
Also if someone has manual for this , it will be great help.

Finally got time and engine was opened up and our mechanic Jameel bhai was very happy to see the internals condition of engine.
Here are the pics from the job done at the workshop. Few engine parts have been sent for minor lathe job and body line work will start from tomorrow which include denting part first. The best thing is mechanic is a collector of old parts of 2 strokes and I will have to hunt only few spares as he is having many of the parts with him. If you see carefully the sixth pic , there is almost ready jawa there in background.

I have also decided on the color which is maroon.

It is really testing my patience. I have learnt lot of lessons during this build. The work is going at really slow pace.

Thanks sohaibak. Last few months have been really traumatic . I have meet people full of greed and ready to rob you in daylight. The mechanic is good but he want to be karorepati by just repairing my bike.
Also meet lot of self proclaimed enthusiasts and quoting insane price for inferior spares. I will share the details of such people once my build is over. Here is close look of Engine . Click image for larger version

1971 to 1982 had such a blast on my Jawa. I now ride a Classic 500 EFI. But nothing even comes close to my Jawa experience.

I have brought the beauty home.
Except for paint all the things are functional and bike is on-road. I am enjoying every ride on it. Did 25 kilometer ride without an issue on Saturday.
I will go for paint job/chrome once engine run in is complete.
Everyone in my neighborhood has gone crazy for the beauty . Welcomed by everyone specially children .
                              Photos/video coming soon.
