  • My RX 135 - confused what has been done to it before purchase

    Guys,

    I have a yamaha RX 135 5-speed.

I am trying to figure out why it has a 4TL00 bore kit with a 5 speed gearbox. I obviously do have 5 gears but it does say clearly 4TL00 on the bore.

Is my bike using a 5-speed conversion kit? Please advise.

    Thank you.

    Johny

P.S: The reason i ask is, I need to get a new bore for my bike coz i just noticed after opening it up that i'm on a 4th oversize (can't be bored anymore) say mechanics. Dammit! So, I'm not sure if i HAVE to pick up the 4TL00 or if i can go for the 4TL10 (5 speed bore like karthikdattag and the others in the 2 stroke threads have been teaching me).

Also, my chain sprockets are actually 15 front and 37 rear. I just recently replaced them with the same sizes. Repairing the bike at home completely.

Can you check the head. Does it say 09L?

Either yours is not a genuine 5 speed [4sp converted to a 5 sp.GB] or its a 5 speed with its block and possibly the head swapped with a 4 speed one. I think the second one is more likely to have happened.

Re: My RX 135 - confused what has been done to it before purchase

You can still rebore the cylinder atleast 2 more times if not more. I've run a 5 speed bore on 6th os though I can't remember the name of the piston used. If u were happy with your earlier setup u should look into it and save some cash

Best would be to check if ur bike has a 5 speed head(if It doesn't the 4 speed head can be modified) and install a used or new 5 speed bore on it. New bores are available at YFS on order for 8500/-

Antz, thanks for approving my thread.

The Pain: this is very good news for me if i can bore it twice more. the mechanics who saw my bike r quite well known in town for their superbikes and racers.. why they would discourage me like that i don't know. i will take the bore to get it check from a few other mechanics now that i know this 6 oversizes deal. thank you very much. (there is a mechanic i met in the masabtank area of hyderabad who showed me a brand new ART piston (don't know where he got it from) - my first sighting; and he asked me to show him the bore).

sohaibak: thank you. i will check the head to see if 09L is written on it today.

yamdoot: i'm hoping its the 2nd possibility u mentioned

i'll update this thread as soon as possible. Thank you for your replies.

First check your Engine Number written in the inner crank case. If it says 1L7******* it is a genuine 5speed. I also run the same setup. As Aargee has pointed out, this is a problem free setup.(4speed kit + 5speed gear box)
4speed and 5speed kits are available for grabs in Yamaha showroom spare shops. Please go and procure one from there with bill.
Please go through this thread for more info..

I have an rx100 with 4tl00 block, vm 22 carb, rx135 head, 100 crank with 135 conrod, 100 magnet assy and 135 clutch. Moral of the story: Who cares as long as it runs great.

Jokes apart, any chance you could ask the previous owner? If not check your registration and see the sale date. I am sure rx gurus here can help you with the production year differences between 4sp and 5sp.

Great. 09L is 5 speed head. What could have possibly happned was, either some mechanic or even previous owner might have changed the bore. What are you waiting for? Get the 5 speed cylinder kit from the showroom.

Thank you, always happy to bring a smile to people's faces. Forgot to mention, RXZ exhaust.

On the topic though, Get a 5sp block and you are set.

Yes they are. but Still it is a crank from an rx 100. The point was a lot of rx bikes in India today are mishmash of all rx series bikes. I see people badging their 135s as 100s all the time. So why worry if it runs ok. Everybody is not that dedicated to keep their bikes picture perfect stock as you my friend. I always tell people here with pride that I got a friend in Chennai who has a bone stock rx100. It even has a oe fuel filter.
