  • Yezdi Cafe Racer+Restoration (Need Help)

    Hey Guys,
First off, I hope this is the right place for this thread. (My first thread at X-BHP).
I have a Yezdi Roadking 1996, when I first got the bike it was painted pearl white, Now its matte black, the excuse for the change was that the fuel tank leaked and peeled the paint off.
I got the tank welded and repainted the entire bike to matte black. That was quite a while back. After that I have had a few falls of the bike (an experience I do not regret at this point). Now the bike is begging for a restore.
I know that I am an &%#*(&%@(*$@ for letting it get to this stage but I fully intend to restore the bike to its true Czech glory. To top it off I intend to it do all manual labor myself including fabrication and electricals ( I might leave the painting to the professionals). For this (before I can get started) I needed a little help (obviously).

    1. I want to change the front fork kit and wheel to one that can house a disc brake, which bikes fork kit can I swap with (I understand the stem length has to be the same)?
    Necessities:
    a) The rim size should not be more than the 17 inches.
    b) Must be spoked. No alloys.
    c) What changes should I be prepared for?

    2. Can I change to 17 inch rim in the rear with 120/80 tire size (Is there sufficient space)?
    Preferable:
    a) Can I change to the 17 inch rim while maintaining the same hub?

I will post pictures of the build during progress and any guide that I make use of, I will also post my own DIY where ever necessary so that anybody else interested may make use of it.

    ---Update--- 18/09/2014
Hey Guys, so the build is complete. I know I said I would post pictures as the build progresses, but because of my erratic work schedule, it didn't even cross my mind. The build took me quite a long time, considering my college and studies, but here it is.
(The complete write up is on my blog: http://tinyopinion.wordpress.com/)

    Thread Approved
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

The same idea struck my mind 2 days back and I am all over the internet for that. For disc brakes I think you can replace the stocks with Royal Enfield Fury's assembly. For rim size you should look for Fury's specs too. Get some ideas from sams Inc (company who sells custom parts to refurb RE to a cafe racer).

I will also start working on it. We can go hand in hand for the same. That would be of great help. Please dont dump ur idea (cuz its awesome).

yes you can fit 120-80-16 (yam enticer) a straight fit, youll have no issues with swingarm only you wont be able to fit the chain guard . It fits on the yezdi rim ( 16 in) . In place of chain cover there are many options out there , use something light ( I meant something plastic) .

Fury assembly a really good idea but then rebuilding the master caliper is an issue again due to lack of the brembo pistons, so best is go for the pulsar one (locally & cheap availability)
someone in friend circle or gujri , Once you have the hub take it to some good lacing guy with your 16in rim & quiet sure he will give you some good spoke options ( I meant of which bike you could use)
so this way you could maintain your 16in wheels & still have the classy looks.----------- Good Luck, dont forget to post some pics

              Hey guys,
I know its been very long. (my apologize) I ran into a lotta trouble, monetary issues, the painter and sourcing parts etc. But the day is very near and I am really happy with the build so far.
I used the MRF Zapper Y 120/80 16 for the rear (from the Yam Enticer, just like you said). A slight mod was required though, there's a small extension sort of thing on the swing arm to hold the rear mud gaurd (not the one below the seat but the one behind the air filter box). The extension needs to be cut.

I want the keep the front setup a surprise.

I am picking out exhausts and want to know how the Enfield Megaphone exhaust will suit my build. Keeping the expansion chamber phenomenon aside, I want to know if it'll make the bike too loud? Any advice?

Will post plenty of pics as soon as its done (it was a very steap learning curve)

                Hi
Nice to know that you started your work again on this project, yes we would wait for pics .

Fitting any exhaust is not the question here you have forgotten something very important , Yezdi is a 2 stroke & megaphone of the Enfield is a 4 stroke isnt it ?????
