• RX135: bring it back to life

1. Leave bike at his place and come few after months and collect both bike and papers.
2. Take some risk, take bike to my place. And get papers by courier.
C.034

Please suggest me what to do. Coz I am not doing things with mechanic now.

Thanks Guys.

powerShift -

We can restore and bring the bike back in glory. Trust me, almost all the spares are available if not off the shelf but can be ordered.

With regards to your important question on the C.034 on the piston top, I'd leave this to other seniors in this thread to comment. Otherwise you can have it measure to know the oversize it is running at the moment.

Since you have some idea from previous restoration, here is my thoughts. Always start working on the restoration only after you have identified the spares and bought them for your requirement. Plan such a way that you are able to do mutli-tasking so that you don't end up spending time. i.e while you give your chasis etc. for painting get the engine rebuilt and ready. So when those painted items are back you can right away start putting it back.

Core components:-

Crank assy - Check if it is having ply. If I were you, would buy a new crank and peace of mind.
Clutch bell - Remember, that this is very important and it should not have any deviated movement or ply. Secure the Primary gear and keep it as set.
Cylinder /Piston - Check the liners for any scratches. If required rebore it to next oversize. Remember Yamaha India supplied only 2 oversizes pistons (.25 and .50).
Oil Seals - Change all of them and they are available.
Engine bearings - They might have got abused and worn out over the period of time, so it is better to change for better performance. They are available too.
Reed Valve - Check the petals if they are good give a thorough wash and can be reused.
Carburetor - Give a complete petrol bath and clean the jets and amulation tube etc.

Try to give a coat of underchasis paint meant for cars for your inner mudguards as it helps to prevent rust formation. Also, I'm not sure which stage you in, I would have taken the frame/chasis to a experts to check if they are in good and do any correction that may require. After that I would get it sand blasted thoroughly to remove all the rust burr from weld etc if any before giving it to painting.

thanks The Monk for approval and SriramEfunds for ideas.

Ordered Crank, oil seals, and Reed Valve. Bearings I purchased before bike . I am going for Top Pro Pistons. any review about it? Will order it after size confirmation.
block looks clean inside. Done some welding work on chassis and gave it to paint. Sandblasting and under chassis paints are good idea. Just gave Chassis to paint. Will ask painter to hold it.

Is it good to chrome magnet and clutch covers?
How to check play in clutch bell?
I have removed both circlips from piston pin but unable to get pin out. Pls let me know the procedure. Am not applying force as it may increase the play in con rod.
what if chassis is painted with Epoxy?

Get new one

No indicators.
New one are easily available

Wiring harness is in ok condition.
Get OEM or Get a Minda made one
Easily available

Swing arm - rusted.
Better get new one

Front shocks - ok
Check the oil seals

VFM will be Pulsar but Gladiators set up is a direct fit and its a Yamaha siblings, so that your bike will belongs to the same family.

New Rims and spokes (old drums are in good shape want to re-use them. What are your suggestions? Which brand rims would be durable and light weight?)
OE Rims are available, if its VFM again, you can buy hero Hondas rim

New sprockets.
Get a RolonIf you can get Allen keys its better I think and looks great especially for the clutch and magneto covers

New seat.
Good decision.

Absorbers for head and block
The one which goes over the fin of head(Big one) will be difficult to get

Rubber set.
Change all the rubber parts,as all are available easily
People who sell genuine Yamaha parts know, especially old shops. the people over there knows everything inside out. Ask for the complete engine oil seals and bearing. It saves a lot of trouble.

Connecting rod or complete new crank whiever is available easily
Crank assembly is available upon order only.

Expansion Chamber
Do you really need this?? unless you want some perfomance

Motocross handle
Keep the original handle for better looks

135 came with ART pistons, try to get those as they are the best. Powder coating the chassis is also an option

Its a personal choice i say.Earlier model RX came with buffed magnet and clutch cover it looks better than chrome plated one. So try buffing if you dont want to paint. Again its a personal opinion

Try twisting the bell part and the teeth part sideways in opposite direction,if the play is excessive(dont know the amount of Play) replace or repair.

Gently tap the pin from the bearing while holding the piston firmly(not in a vice) it will easily come out. atleast my case was simple.

Deathrider142 - Go to Yamaha Showroom in your city. And ask for engine bearings (preferrably entire set). FYI.. engine bearings (all) are same across RX100, RXG, RX135 4s, RX135 5s, RXZ 4s and RXZ 5s.

P. S:- RX100 - Connecting rod Pin roller bearing (Cylinderical bearing) is different. For RX135 it is slightly larger and their part number is also different.

i wanted to know of bearings that could withstand high reving close to 12k rpm.. i have already blown a cylinder before because of the bearing that connects the connecting rod and piston breaking . i also wanted to ask about the vforce reed valves.. which one would fit the rx135

What's the level of modding you have done on the bike??. For a stock one you require only the normal bearings or for even some short burst its enough.
If you plan for some sustained high revs you may think of some race specs bearing.
I haven't used one or know much about it, just my thoughts about it.

Good to see another RX restoration on board ... If you are considering stock setup then go for the standard bearings if you are looking for high level of performance go for performance bearings.. No idea about vforce reed valves are they fiber reed valves ??

You can not put v force reeds on a rx block without some serious modification to the intake tract. You wont need v force unless you are running some serious race level port job and have high flow carbs. Stock reeds or dual stage fiber reeds will do.
