Which model is your RX. I think you have spent a lot of money to just buy it. 38K sounds too much, unless your bike is a good stock one. Another 12K for rebore and other repairs...spend money wisely, dont get ripped of by the mechanics. Do your homework and then only you do something with the bike, or else you will keep on spending money.

40-45 is the max that RX can give, to achieve more you have to lean the mix, which is not at all adviced.



Its possible, but may take sometime, due to time taken to get all the necessary parts.

Contact your nearest Yamaha dealer and ask him to order the parts that you require, as most of them dont keep parts for the RX series.

Thanks for your input Rxdude. My bike is 98 model. Yes need to learn alot about RX bikes. I enquired in yamaha showrooms but only some parts available. Original 135 4 speed carburator is not available and 135 oil pump is also not available (but can me done by modifying rx100 oil pump itself) but i am not satisfied with this option. Need to bring back to original 135. Can you help me to get original carburator and also the place where the painting jobs doing perfectly.

Your interest's look fascinating, thumbs up for that.

I appreciate your excitement to get your machine rolled onto the street with a neat work done, but primarily I would advice you to take some time out from your routine work and spend on reading the related RX threads thoroughly !!
There is loads lot of useful information kept in there.
I guess you have invested enough money till date, so secondly I would suggest to open your wallet wisely.

The mileage what you are getting at the moment is very descent.
Please check out ebay or other similar sites and you shall find a genuine Mikuni VM series carb for your bike. Again depends upon your interests which one you would want to opt.
Basically the carburetor leaking problems can be solved with minor tweaks, suggest chekcing the carb internal parts for genuiness and order for genuine ones if required.

135 oil pump are readily available. Try searching more dealers in your city or towards a bigger palce like Coimbatore.


Few points which I would like to add:

- Identify your budget for the restoration. The forum threads shall help you identifying the approx cost of almost all the parts.
- Decide if you would want to go with plating the old parts (if they are in good condition) or you want to go for complete new parts rims, drums, exhaust, cases or any such metal parts.
- Understand what is the basic processes involved in replacing parts - otherwise its very easy to get cheated by the road side poacher mechanics.
- Locate a good dealer in your city (or the nearest Coimbatore) and see the parts availability.
- Order the parts you are in need and take them to your den the ones which are available. Have patience for the rest and wait untill they are available.
- Painting sounds a simple word but the series of processes involved in it are important. And I think not every other workshop can do it well. So search a good palce and reveiws in your place and identify which would be the best one in your local.
- Now when you have the above said things - you are just left with the labour part.
- Not sure how well are you in handling the tools, but if you wish to get you bike stripped and restored in a mechanics garage then try to get the work done in your supervision.
- Make sure you are ready with all the required parts for your job - this way it shall not kill the time while your beloved bike till remains waiting in the garage.

Are you trying to complete with Splendor? 35-40 kmpl is considered to be common. Don't run your bike like a mileage earner.

Whats your budget?

You will need to adjust the clutch. Changing gearbox oil will also considerably help in smooth shift.

The carburetor that you hold 4TL01 is genuine 4 speed carb. Why you say it is not working properly when it is returning 40+ mileage? There is a carburator packing which might need to be replaced (costs about 30 bucks max) to check on leaks. Have you got those ventilation tubes intact on the carb?

What you hold is Japanese carburetor. why do want another one. Check my previous point.

why Japanese one? What happened to the one in your bike?

Just buy RX100 oil pump and it's the same for RX135 initial models like 1998 where the case looks like RX100.

Kannaa, move out of your house, visit few paint sheds and ask for quote.

If you are looking out for carb and oil pump, have already given you some ideas for work around. Try that first.

Thanks dude. I will try to get more details as you suggest. Acutally most of the parts are good. Need modification on some parts like carburator fix, oil pump, painting rest are all good. i will post my bike pic soon. Already changed few things. So i am mainly looking for the above change.

As you said i checked in coimbatore region for oil pump but no luck. Check in yamaha dealer itself. Can you help me in this.

@ sriram for your questions. I am Jothi. As i already told that i am new to this. so i am trying to get some ideas/suggestions from experts. If we are using cat.con silencer we should get more than 45+ as per mechanic. I will work on few things as you suggested here first, then i will move to next part. Acutally when i bought this bike it has rx100 carb and oil pump also the rx100 one. Mechanic did some tuning and its working but there is so much of leakage. i changed oil seal big,small 2,3 times but nothing worked. so only i am going for rx135 original one.
