  • Disk Brakes in a RD350

Hi all the rd people i have a doubt about putting disk barkes in a RD350, many a forums that i have been say that the RD's produced or which were awailable in India must not be fitted with disk brakes while in the links provided by various posters here depict pictures of rd with disk brakes [?] can any one enlighten on this.. as people say rd is an old bike which is not suitable for disk brakes i.e. it does not have that kind of weight distribution [:0]

    HI,

you can comfortably go for the front disk.

the rd in india came without discs .

otherwise the rd came with discs,

the front disc is recommended to use with rear brake toenjoy stability and race.

    good luck

RD is a old bike but remember it is only bike here developed for racing,it takes discs easily, just need to have good shocks and swing arm bushes.

There is a person I know in Janakpuri, who has fitted disc brakes in his rx100, and that too both front and rear, thats the only Indian bike that I have seen with rear disc brakes. Apparently he is the disc brake expert in Delhi. He has his own workshop, where you can get imported disc brakes fitted in.

The eliminator or karizma disc brake works perfectly on an rd. I rode my cousins rd with elim disc brake up front, believe me it literally hauls the bike within a few seconds from speeds in excess of 100kph.
Regarding rear disc brake setup on an Rx, its a total wastage of money, rear disc will simply lock up the rear wheel at high speeds. A front disc with rear drum should work fine.

Unless your rear wheel is trying to overtake the front one, rear disc pads are not really needed on RD350, but if you are bent upon fitting one, I wont mind collecting the leather pads, since you going to throw them in junk!!

The disc brake is a good investment.
Now can the thunderbird disk brake be fitted on the rd and how much did the eliminator kit cost?

Thunderbird comes with Pricol disk units but inlike thunderbird RD dumper housing dosent have backward notches to fit in the brake assembly, eliminator kit cost about 6000 rs

Can you explain? dumper housing? do you mean the stay in the fork for the brakes? so what do you do? replace the forks with bullet forks or what? hey wonder how much this will cost? at the moment these are the largest dia disk in production and these would be good for RD!

best suited disc will be the karishma disc, very good bite,t'bird's disc fades when hot,i've noticed it in a few t'birds.
