  • My New Project- Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

    Hi Friends,

Picked this one up 2-3 weeks ago. From Chalakkudy, near Cochin, Kerala. Paid a fortune. You folks know the current frenzy towards 2-stroke yamahas. Bike was not in great condition. Engine side was ok. But sadly running on a 4-speed block. Front end & spoke wheels had been replaced with Gladiator alloys & disc set-up. A few broken side panels, a cheap round head lamp, missing battery, missing HL fairing & visor, engine guard, totally messed up electricals etc followed.

This was the condition when i picked her up. Sorry for the poor quality phone-cam pics.

Re: My New Project- Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

Yes. As Sarin [KB100] has pointed out, the restoration is almost complete now. Here is the story..

Started working on her from Day 1 with the help of my mechanic friend Mr. Anand Lal. Finding spare parts was a hard task. Still, bought most of the stuff from the local markets in Trichur & Cochin. Dr.Nitesh Patidar & Mr. Venkatesh sir of Gee Bee auto Bangalore helped me to find the rest of the items. Also a very special thanks to Mr. Vijay Daniel for sending me the rare HL inner rubber beading.

Collected some spare parts for future use also. Like a 5 speed cylinder kit, lock set etc. Im happy running on my 4-speed cylinder for the time being. I have a good collection of regular RX135 spare parts already.

            Works Carried out till date.

Fixed the cracked body panels by fibre patch work

fixed a new HL Assy, fairing, visor, engine guard, front mudguard, Mirrors, crash bar, handle switch etc

New gladiator front hub, KOYO 18" Rims & spokes

Fixed all the electricals [1st round only]. Lights are very poor. Need to work on it.

Paint touch-up, wax polishing, clear-coat etc

Here she stands in full glory now.

The bike is a breeze to ride. Very comfy. Giving me goose pimples whenever i ride her. This is the OE 5speed cylinder kit that i bought from Yamaha showroom.

Thinking of fixing this imported HL beam. It offers better beam focus. The current beam's light throw is very very poor to say the least. This one won't give me that OE look. Still, im going to try this out.

Koyo Bearings and Koyo Rims are two different entity.. its common like Sandhar and Mandap wheel rims available in Bangalore
