  • Want to mod a max 100 for motor cross

    Dear fellow xbhpians.
I have been looking at buying a cheap two stroke bike and preparing it for motor cross/off-roading
    THE BACKGROUND:
i have my hands full with my rx 135 restoration and another roadking awaiting restoration and inthe middle of this I needed a bike to go motor cross/ hill climbing.
me and a few friends go riding off-road to kodachadri near kollur every year and ever since I moved out of mangalore and to Bangalore. Riding to mangalore on my rx135or to borrow a friends bike for the ride is getting increasingly difficult so I thought of buying a used max 100 (guess it is the cheapest 2stroke I can get and I don't want a 4stroke) prep it for the purpose and leave it my friend who is a tvs dealer in mangalore for me to use when I go there.

    THE PLAN:
i need to extrAct as much power as possible out of it and fuel efficiency no issue.
    rebore and port it.
    use a bigger carb
    cone filters
    custor chamber
    sprocketing.
    raise the suspension for gc
    have front disc brakes.

    THE BUDGET:
rs10k for the bike and 10k for the mods.

I PLAN TO DO ALL THE MODS MYSELF AND I HAVE SOME BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND FRIENDS WHO CAN HELP.
(I'm a retina surgeon on weekdays and biker on weekends )
I Don't plan any cosmetic work.

    THE QUESTION:
    will my budget be enough.
what suggestions the experts have for each of the above
    eg what size carb?
    sprocketing?

    thanks a lot in advance

better you go for an rx 100 ,max 100 in not exactly a mod friendly bike , as it is it has a pretty weak clutch once you port the cylinder it wont be able to handle the added power and will start slipping, also you might wanna stretch your budget a little, if you want to add a disc too
It will be advisable to get a cheap rx100 (if such an enigma still exists) and then do a few mods , the engine is extremely mod friendly and reliable compared to the suzys

          Thanks KB100.
I have considered that option and searched far and wide for a cheap rx. Even the worst junk ones go for 20k and these need some restoration before doing more power mods and that takes my budget to at least 35-40k

Thanks KB 100. It is not really for hardcore use. Coz I'm not not so good at off roading.
More as a learning experience for me and have some fun mud plugging. And not really looking at any race winning performance.

get a ybx or fiero, if you are not against 4strokes, both were used in dirt tracks in their prime

You can get Ybx in this budget but only if you find one, they were not sold in high numbers and hence bike is not available like rx.

Getting a MAX100 is easy than YBX, and I read in XBHP that, TVS guys are still servicing MAX100 in their ASC's. So you should be able to get parts as well.
Shogun/Shaolin which shared similar chassis/suspension with Samurai/Max100 were extensively used in dirt tracks in the 90's.

But I'm clueless regarding what mods can be done on a MAX100.

Max100 is still in production for export purpose AFAIK. But looking at OP's budget, I don't think this will be feasible, in fact the conversion to disc brake would cost at least 6k rupees. Better strip off a Fiero and ride on.
                        I am back!

If you really want a 2 stroke, get max100 or shaolin.Don't waste resources trying to improve performance. Replace stuff necessary and according to need over time like rear shocks and disc brakes. You can do a rattle can paint job too if you wish.
"Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

Agree with you albyjose. Iam looking at something that is affordable and doable by me a weekend DIY junkie. I do have some parts like shocks and disc brake that may suit a max 100. I'm still on the lookout for the bike please let me know if u find one that is reasonably sound mechanically
