  • YAMAHA RX-100 Mikuni Carburetor theft/replacement

    Dear Members,
I am having YAMAHA-RX-100 (1986 Model) (CKD - Made in Japan)
A day before yesterday my original carburetor got stolen.
I had parked the bike outside Andheri-RTO Office (Mumbai)

Thieves theft carburetor in just 10 minutes when i was away.
I informed RTO Authority. They shamelessly replied that they are not responsible for vehicles parked in their own campus.

I called 100. Beat Marshall came on the spot. He noticed the spot. Came with me to Amboli Police Station and helped me to register complaint. (Police Diary Entry)

    ...................................

My mechanic (who is expert of Yamaha) is telling me to replace it with Indian made Mikuni Carbutaer which will cost around Rs. 3000/-

Expert and senior members, Please guide me regarding this issue.

Is price asked by mechanic is right? How will I ensure that I will get good quality genuine carburetor???

Re: YAMAHA RX-100 Mikuni Carburetor theft/replacement

First of all, Thank you very much for replying.

My mechanic installed MIKCARB-VM20 (Attaching pic of Carburetor and outer thermacol box.)
He charged me Rs. 3500/- including courier and installation charges. (I am getting a feeling that i have been cheated by him)

I searched on the Internet that MIKCARB is manufactured by ECO AUTO COMPONENTS LTD. (Faridabad - 121006, Haryana, India)

Are you sure that MIKCARB produces RX-100 Carburetors under the license from MIKUNI ???

I was aware that my mechanic cheats with customer by charging very high.
But till now i am tolerating him only because he has very good skills regarding YAMAHA Bikes and I did not want spoil my relations with him.

Can any member will tell me correct market price of MIKCARB-V20 Carburetor?

One more question, How is MIKCARB-V20 Carburetor in terms of performance when compared with Orginal Mikuni Carburetor.

      Please reply.

Re: YAMAHA RX-100 Mikuni Carburetor theft/replacement

Thanks for replying kusmaker and sharing your valuable knowledge.

If price is around Rs.1250/- then i have been cheated very badly.

First I will do inquiry of MIKCARB-V20 price in Mumbai with other spare parts dealers. Then I will ask to clarify my mechanic.

Charging extra 2000/- is really very sad. Trust is getting diminished in current society.

One more question, After installing new Carb, My RX-100 is making GUD-GUD Sound while driving at Low Gear and Low Speed. (The sound is similar when petrol finishes while driving Bike)

My mechanic clarified it as follows---- This sound is due to default carburetor setting by company which is tuned up for High Mileage. And also due to chemical solutions applied at inside surface of Carburetor.

He asked me to drive bike for 100-200 Kms and come to his garage. Then he will tune up carburetor.

        Is his clarification is right??

Ohh...Thanks kusmaker. This is really useful info.

Unfortunately my mechanic adjust idling (Race) by trial and error by hearing sound. I don't think he has a calibrated instrument to adjust race (idling)

If possible please explain how idling is calibrated in your area.

Thanks kusmaker .............You have gr8 knowledge.
Unfortunately I have never seen a single mechanic who touches Air Screw to do Idling Adjustment.
All the mechanics i have came across play with Idle Adjusting Screw only.
Really, Finding a perfect mechanic is harder than finding a good girl to marry
