  • The [MY ;-)] RX100 re-born

Well well well... It's my [and my rx100's ] first time on this forum.
Here is a quick flash of its history:
'91 model owned by my cousin
me took over it in 2001 [was in a similar condition] so had it washed and re bored and got it to running state and used it until 2007.no mods have been done to the engine so far. It just used to run..run..run until i had to leave Chennai in 2007 and since then it was rarely used [by my dad n younger bro ] and for the past 1yr has been lying in the dumps.
Now i am back in Chennai and am gonna have my dream come true

It has been lying in my apartment with no proper shelter/food/clothing
there were a cpl of spiders n tiny insects living on it
Here are the snaps I clicked before taking it to the mechanic [whose name shall be disclosed soon]. Me is no gr8 photographer but still

hmm.. c_sbk.. what i meant by original Rajdoot speedo is that it has RAJDOOT written on it unlike the later models that have YAMAHA on the speedo. correct me if i am still wrong

I just returned from the mechanic and the bike is all washed clean and the engine and everything has been stripped and only the frame is lying alone in the corner.

I wanted good pick up and will be satisfied with a top speed of 110kmph

And here is what we have decided to do:

Have it sleeved and then make it 115cc
The mechanic was talking about putting in a 'power box' like the ones you see on a RX135 (near the carb) - can somebody explain what that is ?
              Use TKR piston kit
              Change the electricals to 12V
              Change all the cables
              NEW NEW NEW rims,foot rests,handle bar,levers,indicators,brake pedal,mud guards,fork over haul , steering head bearings/cones , seat
Have the engine block / crankcase etc etc painted

Will post more pics tomorrow or on Monday [cos the mechanic might not be open tomorrow]

                no,u r right.

power box's function to provide engine maximum air mixture boost when rev hard .Its type of an intake resonator. It's supposed to improve the mid range throttle response.I do not believe that it boosts your power, but it does make your engine seem more "Alive".well actually what is does is the fuel and air mixture travel from the manifold to the reed block/piston in pulses.
now a little before entering the cylinder the pulses negate, change direction and travel the other way.
the boost bottle stores these pulses and doubles the charge and improve the midrange in the traffic condition.

Danks c_sbk So i am definitely gonna get the Power Box

and btw... i was getting my bike restored without my dad's knowledge.. but something funny happened yesterday...

i was at the mechanics sday while this happened [my bro told me wen i got back home] ....
seems the neighbor's scooty got stolen last week and so when my neighbor dint spot my rx100
[which used to be seen everyday... me proud that ppl noticed my 100 even wen it was in the dumps ... my god how are they going to react when its completely done up ] he came and called my dad and said 'look look your yamaha is missing ' and my dad was like ' what how when' and then my bro seeing all the commotion steps in and

and so now my dad knows that its getting restored... and i get a few blasts from his throttle response

My experience with the so called powerbox hasnt been good.

I have taken em off on both my RXs.

If you really love your RX, Don't sleeve it, just rebore. Get a RDD CDI for it, and a UNI air filter and if you want some decent power get the head mod done by Ron.

Can anybody tell me the disadvantages/advantages of sleeving
But i think the power box shouldn't disappoint me going by the mechanic's reputation ... but still do let me know if thers anything specific i should look for while putting in a power box...
                      .... tips always accepted

sorry cudnt post pics sday will definitely do it today evening

                        Completely Stripped

As promised... here are a few more pics... the bikes been completely stripped and you can see the frame lying in a corner and the crank case being cleaned [btw.. tht orange stuff was the threebond paste that was applied the last time the case was opened - had to use thinner to finally get that stuff off]

In the meanwhile... the crank case covers, forks, wheel hubs are at the painters' and are expected to be back tomorrow, and the block is gonna be sleeved 2mrw

So tomorrow we are expecting to clean the frame [its rusty at few places... and do a touch up paint job and then fit the wheels and do the electrical wiring...

                          Update....

the frame was touched up yesterday and got the crank case covers/forks etc from the paint shop...
and the crankcase was assembled and put on the frame and the rear wheel fixed.

Today the electrical work will be completed -conversion to 12V [remember it still has the 6V electricals] and expected to receive the cylinder [sleeved] and new piston today evening

here are some pics [ the last one are the parts from the paint shop ]

This has been one marathon RX100 restoration.. in just 4 days
and its being done in Madras and its gonna be black i guess

Use a Magnet rotor and stator from the 135 with the RR too that converts it to a 12V.

                              Good fun you having man.

I completed an RD engine last weekend, have to complete 2 RX engines this weekend and a complete front end on my RX too. Just dont get the time to post threads man.
