• RX100 engine rebuild advise needed

Had bought a rx100 back in 2008 when I was in Bangalore. Got a mechanic who gave me idea of shogun piston 110cc for my need was 0-80 blast. But from 2012-2015 I had to put this bike in shed without touching it. And that killed it both inside out.

Took it out last month.made its papers clear. Tank is full of rust. Changed its oil and used it for 1000 kms now. Alas, its piston broke.and engine is kaput. As heard such 110cc mods dont last. Bike did only 20000 kms with this block.

As I'm short on money with a budget of just under 15000, I have selected a road side mech who seems to be trustworthy. Plan is to get a good engine and carburetor setup along with new suspensions, swing arms. Will be doing painting in a pocket friendly manner.

Kindly advise what all needs to be looked into. And what cylinder block should I go for...or stick to same setup? My use will be in city. Not caring for much mileage, expecting above 25/lt.but need that sudden take off till 80km/hr.
I also wish to install a battery and get more lighting, and fit Duke led indicators.

Help me gurus...bike has been striped down.

kb100 says, go for stock rx100 block and get head polioshed along with stage 1 porting. This time, though, my want is 0-80, I have an eye for longer engine life. Previous mod of shogun piston lasted less than 20000 kms. Also kindly educate me about compression. Mech after opening block said, piston broke off due to low compression. How do I avoid this in future?

you can accomplish that simply by finding a new reliable mech

he tried to kick start it. and said, cylinder has no compression. then he opened it, saw damage. said its kaput. i rode few rx done by him at garage. to get best work, finding a good mech is first, then having time to spend with is another, finding accurate spares is another...

i dont have any time due to work pressure. all i know is, this bike will be rebuilt in future with lots of money. and then everything will be cared.

that will depend on your engine and tranny setup , you dont need a good mech to build a good rx , you need someone you can trust, and that is in short supply in today's scenario

Re: RX100 engine rebuild advise needed

The best way to go about is, getting a 135 conversion, its both reliable and returns great millage. I have a 100 and 2 135s (both 4s and 5 s) so if I were you and looking to get max out of my 100 then this is the route I would go.

1.Get a new crank(if on a budget get a used crank and get it re conditioned, but sometimes the money saved is not worth the head ache so get a new crank)

2.Change all the bearings and replace all the oil seals

3. Get a new cylinder kit, if possible 5 speed(or used .5 or .75 but avoid sleeved barrels)

4. You can use the 100 carburettor but its advisable to get a used 135 carb and get it rebuild professionally

5. you will have to change the clutch basket and the primary gear setup at a later stage to match the 135 power

6. Get an RDD digital CDI and a allied stator and rotor kit(add a pulsar coil to this rotor and you are all set)

Always remember a rusted tank will screw all the good efforts, and cleaning, welding and painting would cost you much more than buying a new tank. its money well spent and would keep your bike in prime condition for longer. Finding a good mech can be a problem, but if you are on this forum you can get recommendations from members. Join facebook groups for RX and you will get access to good mechs.

Remember do not throw any spares from your 100 and even the smallest part can fetch you some change, always remember there is always some one with lower budget than yours around. Collect all the above mentioned parts first before going for a restoration, engine rebuilds costs less than 2000 if its a new everything, so spend wisely.

don't waste any money on painting plating, buying new stuff is more cost effective.

Getting a new 100 cylinder block. New crank. 5 speed short gear box. Mech doesn't agree with pulsar coil kit. He says to change all wiring and stator, magnet to 135. And regarding carb he says, upjetting should do. Not whole carb replacement...
Buying new chassis, tank...

Listen to your mech then !!

most mechs tell you crazy stuff like these cause they don't know. if you want to run an RDD CDI(trust me if you want the bike to perform you need one) you need a RDD 90/100 kit, since its super rare getting a allied stator and adding a pulsar coil is the straight forward way to go. Getting a new 100 block will add no value, if you want perform ace go for a 135 kit.

if mechs were 100% right most of us wont end up here to search for solutions.

no bro. dont get offended. the 1st thing is budget control. what i heard is, to convert to 135 i will need 135 cylinder block, head, reed valve and few other parts and availability issues.
but if i buy a 100 block, all other parts can be in sync. isnt? correct me if wrong. and regarding 90/100 kit, mech said, he will try best to procure it from bangalore. if not then will go for stock stator and pulsar coil kit.

thank you.

you can run the rdd cdi with the stock rotor and coil assly (provided it isnt buggered) , you will have to cut slots in the stator plate though to adjust the timing, how do i know , used to run one on my rx 100 with the same setup

Why would I get offended, Rx 100s don't perform well. If cost is an issue then rebuild the present block and buy spares when available at reasonable price.

The stock setup will perform well if done well, go up from there.
