  • Restoration of Yamaha Rx100

    Hello dear friends....
I apologize to each and every member of this group for keeping you all in the dark.....
the restoration process began on January 1,2016 (I guess a good way to start the year)
and was completed on January 23,2016......

The whole process was carried out by a mechanic friend....only in my presence......(after college 4 PM-10 PM)....

    Things done.......

    1)Complete rebuild of engine....
Have saved the old parts.....as of now I have a Std. size cylinder, crank, carburetor, oil pump, transmission assembly(4 speed) and most of the engine parts...
2)Replacement of Tank,Side Panels(Old tank was beyond repair on the inside....so had to scrap it...same for the panels...had developed some serious cracks..)
3)Replacement of Front forks,Both the Brake Drums,Handlebar,Pilot Lamp Assembly,New lock set
    4)New rims+spokes and Tyres
5)Got the Silencer,Rear Grab-Rail chrome plated.....(Really good job by guys at the MIDC Industrial area,Turbhe)
    6)New Crash guard,Headlight Rim
7)Got the seat re-foamed,new rear shock absorbers, new storage box,new oil tank(had kept the old oil tank, gauge, etc for drying in balcony after cleaning and my dogs made a toy of the gauge and tank )
    8)New Emblems,Chain Cover,number plates,mud-guards(Both front & Rear),Tail lamp assembly
9)Speedometer not replaced as it was in a very good condition with only 9.9K Kms on it....

Note: Only the chassis was painted(Powder coated),Had the workshop manual along with me so all the nuts, bolts, screws are tightened to factory values

As of now the bike is completely stock.....just like it would've been when it was manufactured

Nice restoration buddy it looks clean. But get rid of the step seat (Somehow just doesn't look good on a stock bike), Also the cylinder head is supposed to be shined not painted (Trust me the paint is gonna start coming off in a few thousand kms), If possible get the grab rail with the carrier in the back it will look great (but you can keep it normal if you want its more of a personal choice anyway). Otherwise the bike looks solid. Good job bro

Was thinking the same exact thing about the seat.....actually it was from a friend...he had a spare one so bought this one off him for around 300 bucks...still planning
to change to an OE seat as the step portion is not too comfortable for long rides.....cylinder head will be soon sent off for buffing process.....the paint has not started
coming off but around 2 weeks back got the spark plug changed(old one was shorted) and while installing the new one the idiot mechanic chipped off some paint with his plug spanner....

The original plan was to put a detailed thread.......with pics of each and every part being taken apart, spares hunting,reassembly,etc.....had taken around 35-40 pics....
but the External HardDrive containing those pics crashed....

I'm registering a RMA on the WD Support website as I write this mail.......along with the pics I had around 800 GB of data in that HD.........
so been a little traumatized after the incident... ;~; ........nevertheless have some pics left in the cell phone(not a great quality cam)...
                will post them......

In the mean time....feast your eyes....

                  Re: Restoration of Yamaha Rx100

Insted of changing the whole seat, just change the foam and the seat cover. That should do the job.

The current set was re-foamed after I bought it off my friend........the seat makers here have only these kinds of design I suppose....will enquire about it and will show the seat maker the pics of an OE seat to give him an idea about what I want.....maybe it'll help......

The new foam comes in the stock seat shape. The seat makers cut off the foam for these kind of seats. So just tell them you want a normal seat n they should do it.
