  • Rx135 -- Reincarnating the beast

    Hello.

I am 27 years old live in Thane-Mumbai.

All my life I rode 4 stroke bikes( pulsar, glamour, karuzma).

I never even thought of owning a 2 stroker..until a couple months back I rode a friends rx135 as I had to collect a courier.

The courier office was about 10 mins away but the moment I rode the bike it gave a powerful feeling..a sensation that words can't describe.. The same sensation I get when I hit the gym with a vengeance...I rode the bike for well over 30 mins and returned to my friend.

Since then I was on the hunt for a 135 4s and finally got one in pretty good condition.

Now I want to make it look like a beauti...I want to learn its workings...Right now I m just starting to get to know it.

I have clocked well over 300 kilometers in these 5-6 days on it.

I will need help of you all as I don't even know the basic things about the bike.

Have been doing some reading and now am thinking of checking the oil pump.

I m going to make this bike a bride.

    Thanks

Cosmetics are easy, chromed parts are easily available. Apart from the tank rest all painted parts are easy to get. Whatever you cant get on your own can be sourced. Engine is a different matter. Finding a good mech, a good ladh shop, a good tinkerer, all are a bit difficult. Best of luck buddy. Do post questions if you have them.

Re: Rx135 -- Reincarnating the beast

          Thanks friends.

Today I went to Yamaha showroom service centre.

Changed the oil near the brake side I.e yamahalube 20 w 40 viscosity.

Wanted to order the original silencer but it was for 5000/- which I think is a bit too much

          A couple issues---

          1) the bike takes 3-4 minutes to start after turning the fuel tap on on/ reserve. Any thing which will help in this regard?

          2) the gears become * can't explain* a bit stuck sometimes while shifting.

By the way saw a rx135 on the road was good looking a bit modified.

The mechanic who was riding it told me it will take 15000/- which I found was ridiculously high as the only things he had changed on the bike were
          1) paint
          2) rear tyre
          3) front mudguard

Is the bike on side stand when this happens? Try turning off the fuel and open the throttle fully and start kicking, if it starts in 2/3 kicks your carb is flooding. Let me know the result of this exercise, Try avoiding the side stand as well. Once you tell me exact results of your actions I can guide you further to check if its a faulty overflow needle.

            2) the gears become * can't explain* a bit stuck sometimes while shifting.

Is it going to neutral while running? if it is then the culprit could be no play in the clutch lever, if all gears are getting stuck then check if there is play in the gear lever, try adjusting the gear lever a bit(put a washer between the lever and circlip if its missing one)

            1) paint

only three things have paint on them, the tank and side panels, its a better idea to buy them new, you can have all of them for 4500/- I suggest you buy new since the old one will have rust and will affect your carb no mater what you do. Non OE tanks and side panels would be under 3k but I suggest you to spend the extra 1.5k to get the OE stuff

            2) rear tyre

Michlin Sirac Street 3 18 is around 1700, best tyre your bike can have(comes with the tube for this price)

            3) front mudguard

OE mudguard for RX is no longer available, but CRUX mudguards are exactly same, only difference is there are 2 holes instead of one for the longer cable guide, you can buy this and plug the second hole, price is around 900

Original Chrome silencer is 1800, If you have a cat con I suggest you remove it and put the normal chrome silencer. The old cat con can be sold for 4-5k so don't just leave it with the Yamaha guys.

Don't just go to any mechanic if you don't want to be taken for granted, you can change the tank, side panels and mudguard yourself. Post a pic of your bike and we can guide you further based on the condition.

It would be better if you take the bike to the tyre shop and ask for the price and get it changed by them itself. Ask around 2-3 shops.

Went to tyre guy just now

He said " Bhai aapka tyres dono naya hai. 1-1.5 saal mat change karo"

So I guess that takes care if tyre issue

PS-- how to upload photos? Can I use 3rd party hosting services ? I aak because on some sites its not allowed.

                  Did the following test--

                  1--Turned the bike on

2-- turned off the fuel tank

3-- gave full throttle( accelerator) and kicked

                  Kicked 5-6 times

                  Bike did not turn on

Re: Rx135 -- Reincarnating the beast

Congratulations on your new possession dude..

It's not starting problem, you have to hold the choke on and then kick. The bike should start in 3 proper full kicks without any acceleration, even if the engine is cold it should start in 3 kicks. If the engine is not cold then 2 kicks your bike should start. Try this and let us know. Two stores religiously require choke to start the bike every time. And don't forget to turn the fuel off whenever you stop the bike, make it a habit, even if you are stopping just for 5 minutes.

Shifting gears: Get the clutch setting right with 10mm play in it. Too much ply can cause difficulty shifting gears and the bike moves even if you hold the clutch completely. If you notice closesly, unlike your previous bikes, every gear shift in RX has two movements (one coming out of the existing gear slot and two moving into the next gear slot), so hold the gear lever until the gear is engaged properly. With practice you'll be able to master the gear shifts.

Enjoy your ride, do ride safe..

                      Thx frnd.

                      Was down with food poisoning.

2 weeks. Lost a load of muscle and weight hence pretty weak.
