hey Punman..... i have a 87 model as well.... see take the papers to RTO office and get it checked and also the registration paper which u get should be new as after 20yrs the registration expires of vehicle.
In this case it would be that the registration of the bike should be from 2007 to 2017 as now the bike wont be getting the registration of 20yrs...

so check that and then try to get it verified by the RTO office.....okie and also the best dude....

          first things first -

          1. since the registration has expired, get the bike registered after a fitness test,
          2. make sure the bike is of the same color as mentioned in the expired RC book, else the inspector will create issues,
          3. Apply for change of ownership and address change along with the re-registration process

Take the bike along with papers to the RTO office they will see or may be some of them will try to see if the bike is in condition to be in road.... which "fitness test". Once the fitness test is passed u will ahve to get it re-registered.... and thats all buddy u can ride away to glory with her....

PS: make sure that the chasis number which is located under the handle and in adjacent side of side lock is clearly visible and same as mentioned in the Registration papers....

Also check with cops (through agents) if there are any complaints against the vehicle...
