  • Can someone teach me internals of a Bullet ?

    Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and after reading a few threads I can see that there are some folks here who know the bikes inside out. Unfortunately, I don't know the basics also.

I want to learn about the internals of the engine and also some "self-repair" as I travel a lot and am in a fix if the something breaks down.
It happened once with the headlight and I didn't even know how to change that

    Thanks,
    Prashant

Hey Prashant Firsly let me ask you do you own a bullet if yes then what model.
second question do you have regular problems with the bike. if no then i am sorry if yes then thats great.

what do you genearly follow when yo ugive the bike for service. do you drop it off or waste time lingering around. if you drop it i am again sorry, if you Linger around then you better get your act togather and start looking at what your mechanic is doing and try to follow it with question.

and then over a forum please try to ask specific question what you want to know instead of such a open ended question.
oh another one that would be a real help try to reffer to a good manual for the RE and you would be able to understand a lot of things.

        Thanks
        Desi

          thanks for reply...

Hi Desi .. thanks for the reply.

I have a Royal Enfield Electra 5s 2009 Model and it has been doing great.
Until now I have been following the practice of dropping it off and collect in the evening but I do realize that this isn't good.
You are right that I need to start lingering around while they open up the bike and then only will I understand the internals and the technical terms (but honestly speaking there are none that I know, who will allow me to eat his head while he does his job).
I was actually thinking if there are people in this forum who have a garage and might need a helping hand This way I will also learn quicker.

          Cheers ...

Well, I was somewhere there a few months ago. So I feel I can offer some advice.

First, you need to take things in your hand. Bug the mechanic, ask about the parts you see him working on, come back home and do some basic research on the net (Wikipedia rocks). Try getting some theory lessons. Howstuffworks "Auto Channel" is a great place to start off, learning the basics of automobile, then the various sub-systems as your interest suits. You could also get your hand on a RE shop manual, but first go through the user manual and try getting familiar with the general service procedures.

Most importantly, fall in love with your bike. Don't give it for a wash, just do it yourself. Each time you stand up after kneeling down for half an hour washing the bike, you will feel a bond with the machine. Now you won't leave your babe in the greasy hands of the mechanic, would you?

                  Hello Desi.

Its may be ironic , though we spend so much of money on THE RE , sometimes we end up leaving it in the mercy of a mechanic who may not understand the bond between the owner and the bike.
But still , as its discussed in this thread , we need to take things in our hand and needs to learn from the mechanic who touches it, by that he feels the importance of the bike to its owner and we will be pragmatic enough to handle the matter .
My sincere request here is can you-Desi or anybody suggest a good manual to have at least a basic knowledge in case of emergency ,as it may happen in the long rides to the remote places.

                  I own a Bullet-Standard and a RE-Taurus .

                  -Thanks in Advance
                  Raghav
