  • RX 135 5 Speed Restoration

    Hi,
I have recently restored my RX 135-5Speed - everything said and done, but i am just worried about the cylinder kit.

I am not able to find any 4TL01, which is true as the bike lasted only 2000-2002 years of production.
In that case many of my friends suggesting the Indonesian 3KA20 Kit, given that it is original. Is it correct?
Can i fit an Indonesian 3KA onto my Indian 5Speed 2002 model?
If yes, then can i have it directly fitted and run? Or do i need change other components like carburettor or the CDI or Clutch??
    Let me know.

Last but not least i would like to know what does a 4TL00, 4TL01, 3KA20, and 4Y201 stand for?
All i know is that 4TL00 was original indian RX 135 4 speed block, 4TL01 was for RX 135 - 5Speed.
What does this 3KA20 and 4Y201 stand for?

Except that my cylinder is running on the last bore and that i have not been able to find an original block for it.
Maximum suggestions pouring in for 3KA.

    Please help.

    Regards
    A Farhat

Why don't you invest in an RXK Block kit ? I've heard that it's a direct fit on the 135 and also makes more power as well.

RXK Blocks kits are imports from Malaysia if I'm not wrong and they amount of power they make will make the block wear out too soon. He will end up back to stock. It may be a direct fit but the Indian RX135 was never meant to generate that kind of power.

          .
the indian rx is a detuned version of the rxk and the components can easily withstand twice its stock output without any change, and the rxk wont wear out "too soon" because they make more power , it will last atleast 30k before it will need a rebore , and that is with fairly good ripping, for it to perform optimally it needs a close ratio gearbox , bigger carbs, and a matching high compression cyl head , at the minimum the cyl must be changed with the cyl , it will have poor low end pick up but will be a screamer to the top end

Thanks brother. Have invested in the 3KA original block. It came with an IZUMI piston and rings. Have enclosed some pictures.
The bike is of course performing very good, especially after it clocks 60-65kmph. Had it fitted direct with crank reworked slightly, nothing else changed. Click image for larger version

Hi brother, I had procured it from Indonesia, not from India. The total cost incurred for the complete cylinder piston kit was 18,860 INR. It is the original RXK block as available in Indonesia across all Yamaha authorized dealers and agencies. The code on the left hand side reads 3KA20 and on the right a YP-1 or YP-2. The piston is that of Izumi. Though many claim that 4Y201 is the original code for RX King block but i believe it to be that of Malaysian RXZ as in whole of Indonesia we are getting 3KA only.
Please note here that I myself may need a correction as far as 4Y201 is concerned. As you may notice I had mentioned in my original query Last but not least i would like to know what does a 4TL00, 4TL01, 3KA20, and 4Y201 stand for?

Anyway, the bike has roared back to life, even better than what it delivered almost 2 decades back. And i have changed nothing except the cylinder piston kit. Click image for larger version

Also, the blocks available in India by 3KA20 are fake and cost only Rs. 4,400 with no piston. These are blindly painted black all over. The sleeves are dull black and you could notice 3 layers of circles. The font and the size of font in which 3KA20 is written on the left is also weird. On the right nothing is mentioned on these kits.
                Would share more pics soon.

Wow thats very pricey for sure but it shows how much of a Yamaha lover you are. Even I am trying to get a RX100 and RX135 4 speed Yamaha OE piston cylinder kit here in chennai but I am hearing that both production were officially stopped by Yamaha. Anyway I'm still hoping to get a original RX100 kit atleast prices quoted vary from 9K to 10K.

to my knowledge the 4TL00 and the other similar numbers were part numbers...RX100 OE part numbers start with 36L...so 36L00 for RX100 bore and RX135 OE part numbers start with 4TL so 4TL00 for 4-speed block and 4TL10 for 5 Speed block....anything else like Yamaha 98CC and 3KA20 are fake. Kindly do correct me if I am wrong in anything.

Waiting for more pictures of ur RX135.....also post pictures of ur RX135 5S in the 'All xbhp strokers....post your bike pictures here' sticky thread.

18k in not pricey at all if you want that thrust in your life back, want to Rev your heart, and if you believe in the RX 135 5Speed. I own a Triumph Rocket III with a 2,300cc block, but please mind that I have an altogether a different and valued degree of respect for the RX 135 5Speed. And i pamper it FAR MORE.

You would not be able to get original kits for neither 100 nor the standard 135, that too in Chennai. Production of spares for both the models stopped around 2009. Still spares could be sourced till late 2016, Yamaha would locate its inventory upon a special request, and one could get the desired spare. Yamaha RX series got so legendary that Yamaha bended the rule of supplying spares till 10 years after the production stops. RX 100 discontinued in 1996 and RX 135 in 2000 - the 4 speed make. The spares though were available from Yamaha till late 2014 for both the models.
Rules are rules, Inspections tightened and during mid 2017 Yamaha had to had all the spare inventory sold to regional suppliers, in HUGE mass stocks, dealers and parties having purchased are sleeping over the stuff for now.
After the unwanted cleansing of the spare stock Yamaha finally had to even have the data and the spare part codes removed from their software. So even even if a Clutch Assembly for a 5Speed might be lying in the go-down, but Yamaha won't even be able to trace it. Fossil it would become.
Wish you luck, and suggest trying Rajasthan, Alwar area, you might find one for your 100.

"anything else like Yamaha 98CC and 3KA20 are fake". There is a difference between a fake and a replacement or a substitute. To correct you brother as you have requested and which i believe because you have not read my communication properly.
I would like to make a point that YAMAHA 98cc cylinder block for RX 100 is fake - made by companies like YamunaPistons, Goetze SAM etc. Original being 36L00 - that's what i had put in my RX100 - the green bike next to the 5speed you see in the picture.
But a 3KA20 is an Original Cylinder cum Piston kit manufactured by Yamaha Indonesia, just like 4TL10 by Yamaha India. What i meant in my last communication is that the 3KA20 is currently available as OEM by Yamaha Indonesia, you can also get it in Thailand. But in India we are having multiple fake agencies and vendors making it and selling for a meagre 4,400/-. I never meant that 3KA20 coding in itself is fake, it is the original code in Yamaha Indonesia RX-K manual.

So, what i have done with my 5-Speed is that i have enhanced it with that 3KA20, an ORIGINAL YAMAHA block which i purchased during my tour rather than putting a 2 bore down or even sleeved kits of 4TL10. And now i feel the bike is delivering at least 2 notches up than even the Yamaha India Factory block. After putting the block, and done only 270km spprox i feel like the RX 135 5Speed was a DE-TUNED version of the RX-KING.
One question for you brother - did you know that we got a 100 while even a country like Pakistan was gifted by Yamaha with an RX 115. Check the picture attached.
God Bless our automobile norms and regulations, we are always presented with down the line versions of a global product - be it Toyota Qualis, Yamaha RX series, Nissan is handicapped by these rules, even the Click image for larger version

I'm so impressed with the restoration. I'm almost done with mine but I'm in need of 3 essential parts -
                        1. Cylinder kit - how did you source the original 3KA20 cylinder kit from Indonesia? Could you help me out?
                        2. Carb - looking for an original Mikuni carb.. any updates on where i can find the 4m26?
                        3. Alternator - looking for a 12 V but higher amperage.

                          1) You gotta have a contact there or if you want to take a gamble use Alibaba
                          2) Aliexpress sells compatible ones 1000 bucks a pop
                          3) I think the last model RX could be fitted or the Crux consult your mech first.
