    Touring modifications for stock Yamaha RX100

    So, as you might have guessed it I own and ride a RX100(1989 model) handed down by my dad. I want to enjoy long ride and tours on my RX100. And here, arises the question. Why not get a modern bike like the 310 series from BMW?

    My answer would be that in just a matter of months I would be going abroad for my bachelors degree. So there is no point to buy a bike for a few months and then keep it in storage.
    Hence the I am sticking to the very bike I learned to ride on and I don’t regret riding it i.e. RX100
    So here is what I want on my bike to make long ride a bit bearable as RX’s vibrate a lot!

    - swapping the front sprocket to a 16T one, as stock came with 15T. This changes the gear ratio which will help a bit when riding at 70-80 kmph by giving up a bit of acceleration.(which I am okay with)

    - Hazard switch installation for me being a bit more visible to cars

    - a better horn preferably a Hella one as the stock one is just too silent for highways

    - a long carrier installation to attach a studds side luggage box as an top box for the bike. For tools, spares, extra helmet visors, clothes for cleaning and some 2t oil

    - a better headlight reflector & lens for night riding as the stock one is a bit shitty

    - a stock muffler for my Silencer as the current chopped one makes my ears bleed during high speed travelling[emoji23]

    - better Tyres as the existing ones are kaput

    - a air cushion seat if I still get sore bums after rides

    - and finally if,required a disk brake setup

      If you are going abroad for your studies,The RX is also gonna sit inside the garage right? How are you gonna go on tours on the bike when you are not here ?

        I would suggest going with Michelin Sirac Street for both the tyres. They offering ample grip and stability.

              I am running 17 t at front and 34 t with a five speed gear box, I am hitting 80kmph at 3.5 3.8 at the tacho.

              - Hazard switch installation for me being a bit more visible to cars
              please check with your mech, these would depend on the state of your wiring and your rectifier. Overload them and everything goes caput.

              - a better horn preferably a Hella one as the stock one is just too silent for highways
              what I did was splice the wires from the existing horn and attach an windhorn? [something taken from a scrap tata magic] on the leg guard.

              - a long carrier installation to attach a studds side luggage box as an top box for the bike. For tools, spares, extra helmet visors, clothes for cleaning and some 2t oil
              I normally use the saddlebags [ soft]

              - a better headlight reflector & lens for night riding as the stock one is a bit shitty
              try putting a bosch bulb first, if it is still bad I hear the classic pulsar or the ambassador set up can be swapped. I am running with the bosch and I am satisfied

              - a stock muffler for my Silencer as the current chopped one makes my ears bleed during high speed travelling[emoji23]

              - better Tyres as the existing ones are kaput
              I am running 2.75 18 knobbies front and back [tvs, ceat etc] they seem to work well
              - a air cushion seat if I still get sore bums after rides
              Check the shock absorbers first, but some new oil and seals on them and put some extra foam on the seat. These might be cheaper and more effective

              - and finally if,required a disk brake setup
              Drums seem to work well if you dont find a stock rxz setup check the classic pulsar ones
              replies are in bold. However if possible get a 5 speed gear box, I converted my 135 4s to 5s and the difference is night and day.

                Thank you for you suggestions[emoji4]. As of now I have completed the following:

                -16T sprocket mod
                -hazard switch mod
                -horn mod
                -reflector mod
                - a new muffler

                  But I recently rebuilt my engine 5k kms back so I am not keen on opening it up again.
                  If somehow I open it up I will replace all the internals of my engine with RXKing internals
                  :

                  -Silencer
                  -cdi/coils


                  So, for now I am fine with the current setup..

                    the gear box of the rxking is shorter than the stock, so for a touring set up I am no so sure if that would be for the best.
                    -clutch assembly/primary gear
                    the rxg and rxking uses similar patterns apart from a single set of clutch plates, use the rxg and you would be set
                    -crank
                    it is similar to the rxz that we got, if you are looking for a heavier fly wheel the rx 135 would smoothen out some of the vibrations.
                    -block/head
                    in this please note that the rxking was around 16-18 bhp with a compression ration far exceeding all indian models, if you do get it please check if the current oil pump would be able to supply enough oil if not the engine will seize. If you are looking for performance, a ported indian/local block should do the trick
                    -carb
                    the stock ones are 22 mm I think, a 26 mm with the above block will do, if not you can still add a 24 mm carb, I am running a 26 mm in my rx 135, it runs rich, but with a bit of tune the upper end has improved.
                    -Silencer
                    the rxking came with a factory fitted expansion chamber, this requires serious tuning and is loud it would most probably not be comfortable for long distance touring and run in with the police would be more common
                    -cdi/coils
                    as stated the rxking had a different set up then the indian models i do not have information if there was a change in the firing order; consult someone more knowledgeable on this.

                    So, for now I am fine with the current setup..

                    In my opinion get a tacho fitted like the rxz, the tacho helps keep a check on engine health and in tuning.

                      correction of a few points,

                      RX k didnt have a very high compression ratio , though it had a cylinder head with a smaller combustion chamber volume compared to the indian models ,the large exhaust port duration made it a necessity

                      stock rx100 carb is mikuni vm 20 with 20mm venturi

                      rxking never came with factory chambers, but the se asian rxz came with chamber initially, and they both are as different from each other like chalk and cheese

                      @Aryan14-3 : if you are planning to go abroad , please do not touch the engine for now ,

                        I would suggest sticking to the stock setup instead of the RXKing ones. Stock RX135 internals (Gearbox, Clutch Assembly and Primary Gear, Crank, CDI and Silencer). I use RDD 90/90 CDI on my brother's RX135 and Stock Non-Catcon exhaust. You don't want to risk using a expansion chamber RX, lest you want to get caught in the traffic for the loud noise. Yes, you could opt for a RXK Carb though. It has larger jets. And do, not ever use a free flow exhaust. They get clogged every time you wash the vehicle. You could always fit a Tacho Setup like the RXZ. I've fit one. It's a useful addition and helps to keep speeds and vehicle health in check. And if you really want a front disc setup, use the Pulsar one. The Forks, Disc, Calliper, Tee and Master Cylinder can be easily fit. You can also use 17 inch wheels from Pulsar for more stability.

                          Also the current engine is working perfectly. So, I am not too keen on doing anything on it

                              I am also thinking to add a tacho setup but I am not sure, if I would be adding that as current in my state there is no lathe machine guy who has any knowledge of drilling holes in the clutch cover for the rpm gear..
                              So for now that idea is at bay.
