  • How to make 2 strokes cleaner?

    Okay, here it is.
Ppl start blasting me for not liking 2strokes cos of the pollution factor. The reasons are personal & all I will say is that the quality of life for a quite a few ppl I know has deteriorated 'cos of these very machines.
Anyway, this is not the point. I want all the 2 stroke lovers (& even other ppl) to tell us how to make these machines cleaner, rt from the production stage ie how can production technology make these bikes cleaner while keeping the awesome power delivery intact?
Plus,(this one's for everyone) how do you keep emissions from ur present machine from getting too rotten? Visible smoke has been found out to be one of the chief causes of lung diseases btw...

So, I just want us all to do our little bit to make the environment cleaner & better for us & those around us. Lets not ony think of the thrill we get with power & speed- all that is okay but at what cost?...be considerate, be human.
And, if u like to call me someone from the "Green Brigade", hey, thanks for the compliment.
With great power, comes great responsibility- to man, machine and especially to mother nature.

i see ur point here.there have been good developments on this front but nothing in india.also 4st engines have become very good in producing power.this is leading to killing of the 2st tech.

yes infact 2-str bikes can be made cleaner but most of the companies r switching to 4-str bikes.

Well, one reason is that India is one of the most polluted countries in the world!!...& health conditions arent the best...we r below Pakistan in that respect. We have to strike at the root of the problem!
Come on guys, give ur suggestions on how to make ur 2 strokers cleaner. No excuses here.

              Hey,
well ithink 2str can be made less polluting only thru the help of Technology, but even if the Manufacturers decide spending the extra bucks on Technology would it really make their sales increase.
Think abt it major Junta in India today wants average, this is one factor where the 4strks are beating the 2strks big time.
I think all we can do as a Community is make an attempt to make our own 2 strokes as clean as possible.

ya man my rx 135 5 speed has got a cat con (non polluting)plus i use YAMALUBE which produces nil smoke

as compared to other 2 strokes mine is far much cleaner

will come up with many more ideas
                stay tuned

its not about how much visible smoke is dere its about the pollutants in the smoke so weather u lok back while riding at 60 on the highway and see a cloud of smoke or no smoke at all u are polluting the enviro. (not condeming 2t's but stating the facts)

i read somewhere, a few months back, that some Engg students from a college in trivandrum converted the carb suzuki samurai to a fuel injected one and pollution dropped by more than 50%. Also the fuel efficiency increased substantially without much compromise in power.
lemme see if i can find out any link regarding that anywhere...

                        I think these might work:-->

                        1. An Automatic Digital Oil Mixer in the bike, should be installed so that it ACCURATELY Mixes oil in accordance with petrol amount put in.

I mean, something like in which you enter "5.5" litres digitally, and oil mixer releases exactly 11 ml of oil into the fuel tank.

This should make them easier to maintain too, as you won't need to carry oil along ...

                        2. Fuel Injection Technology should be used, exactly like Bajaj did on their Gasoline Injected Autos.

This is a major step, and will clear all pollution issues.

                        3. Exahusts should have advanced cat cons, and other pollution control measures.

If these 3 methods are followed the RX100 (just an example) would definitely be cleaner than Passion Plus.

and perform much much better, and give acceptable economy too ...

But, the Bottom Line is, Who (manufacturer) is listening to us, The Xbhp members?

the prime cause of pollution in case of a 2 st machine is the fuel/oil mixture....
if an external blower (supercharger) can be used for direct induction of fuel/air mixture into the combustion chamber and an independant lubrication method for the crank separately is used....pollution can drop drastically....
then a well tuned expansion chamber to burn the A/F mixture to its fullest, without the wastage of charge would do the rest of the job of reducing pollution and also reward with great fuel efficiency.....

lol..digital oil mixer sounds classic man

here's a few things we can do to make 2 strokes environment friendly

                            1. get the carburetion and jetting right

                            2. set the oilpump right or just use premix..a smoking 2 stroke isnt necessarily a healthy one

3 rebuild your engine if its not in good shape..a well setup RX barely smokes, has good compression and better and efficient combustion..this in itself works for an environment friendly bike

No way using pre-mix helps polluting less in any way. In fact quite the opposite. The reason why the pump is there is to reduce the overall oil consumption! Using pre-mix just means you are burning the max amount of oil at all times... much more than required for optimal lubing. All those who are using pre-mix here are polluting a lot more than necessary!

No matter how well you maintain a 2 stroker, the emissions just cannot compare to the current 4 strokers. If this were true, all well made new 2 stroke bikes would pass the current emission limits (as most companies assure that bikes are well tuned at the assembly line). But they simply cant! Goes without saying that a well maintained 2 stroker will of course pollute less than a badly maintained/tuned 2 stroker... thats about it.

Fact is that 2 strokers as they are today are dirty & inefficient, when compared to 4 strokers.
