  • Trackday on a 150cc 40bhp 2 stroke

Went to the Tuas Track this morning at 8. Had a small session and then started off. Unfortunately in 30 minutes it started pouring heavily. An hour later the rain stopped and had another couple of sessions in the wet.

Its a bone stock NSR150 SP. Running on Birdgestone Battlax BT090 tyres. Surprisingly the tyres had awesome grip in the wet, was hitting the sidestand on the tarmac on a few corners.

Wow... a 150 cc, water cooled 2-stroke from Honda. Power output is ~39 KW! And according to Google, this EATS a Ninja 250R.
This was/is available in Thailand. I think I have an import idea!

EDIT just found the (supposed) price on the net : around 6000 USD.
              No more import idea

Had a spill on the track 3 weeks back. Thats why the windsheild on the left next to the mirrors is chipped and the bar end weight is looking at the cMERA. Strangely no scratches whatsoever on the fairing. The tear next to the pockets was the cause and a big bruise on the left knee as well. So took this time pretty slowly and didnt push it much. This is a very tight track and ride at atmost 2nd and 3rd gears only.

Tanay: The bike+insurance+charges cost me ~2400SGD, that about 80K INR. Insurance alone was 12K sigh. thankfully I had my indian license to prove I had 7 years riding experience or else the insurance would come up to ~40K INR. Plus ring changes every 6K KMs and engine overhaul at 12K KMs is mandatory. Also full synth 2T oil should be used which costs over 700rs/ltr. Tyres cost 7K INR and last hardly 8-9K KMs.

Having a NSR in india doesnt make sense. It needs quality 95octane fuel all the time. Pour in even 92 octane thats available here, boom!. engine will seize/hole piston or whatever.

Have a list of upgrades for the bike. Better exhaust, a Keihin PWK33 flatslide, EBC HH brake pads, etc. Have done some 11K KMs since I've bought it so will need a complete engine overhaul as well.

Actually at Rs.79,200 (2400SGD*Rs.33) its a steal. Dont we know what 79-80K fetches in the Indian market Upkeep is a different story though.

Have you thought of bringing it to India when you come back here? I am damn interested to the procedure and costs involved.

150cc and 40bhp! Insane And two stoke Enjoy the bike

Well..this would have been a great pocket rocket here if it was a bit on the lower-maintenance side. Still, 40 bhp from a 150 cc 2-stroke is great! Or perhaps we in India are too used to expect ~10-16 hp from stock 2-stroke bikes here.
Also my friend tells me that vehicles in Singapore are kept very expensive intentionally to encourage public transport. I had gone there in 03 and I recall using a taxi just once. Rest of the time it was the subway and the buses, very nice transport system there.

Never got the time to convert my license yet, haven't gone there yet. Will do as soon as I get it done.

Went to the track again this morning. The pros were practicing for the race on next weekend. MAN are these guys dedicated! I even saw a FCR2 35+mm on a 135cc 4 stroke with free flow exhaust. throttle response of it was superb! Saw a couple of 2stroke Yamaha 125Zs as well, man they sounded sweet!
