Re: Kawasaki RTZ
AFAIK it was the Bajaj KB125. Bajaj had already ended the alliance with Kawasaki.Originally posted by Nikhil Pereira View PostThe kawasaki RTZ 125 was launched
Had I been a member of XBHP in 2009 when you posted this, I would have given you one for free. My brothers bike which had run 2.5 Lakh kms.Originally posted by Nikhil Pereira View PostAny Kb100 RTZ, in and around for sale????
The original KB 100 had the rear foot rests mounted on the swingarm. The subframe was introduced in the RTZ. All the 125's were without any Kawasaki badging.Originally posted by sixspeedtwin View PostHi all,
Let me add my two cents to this tread.
Few people may know that the KB100 had 5 variants:
1. KB100 when launched
2. KB100 RTZ
3. KB100 Colt (Yes that's right, I am sure no one knows of it)
4. SX Enduro
5. KB100 RTZ Delta Super-tuned (With Resonator).
After that in March 1996
1. KB125
2. KB125 (with new paint scheme)
3. KB-125 Prowler (5-speed gearbox).
This is the correct lineage of the KB bikes
That's the case with all Japanese companies. They always violently oppose any change to their way of doing things, however logical your explanation may be.Originally posted by psr View PostI always found the BAL Engineers to be very willing to listen to customer's opinion and views, while Kawasaki Engineers did not want to ,and had more negative approach to suggestions.

Re: Kawasaki RTZ
Only the bore was chromed, not the piston, and it is definitely not true that run-in was not/is not required. In fact, the smoothness of chrome / nikasil bores creates a known difficulty in some cases for run-in, in that there is no cross-hatching pattern, and rings don't seat as easily. Purpose was long life and effective heat transfer. The 125 had the chrome, 100 didn't. I never finally got my hands on an original cylinder block for the 125, but even my aftermarket one (which seems to be of a lighter-weight alloy and very likely runs noisier - a lot noisier than the iron 100 block anyway) has lasted quite a long while now - my speedo cable or gears were always breaking, so not sure how many km's, but all of them have been hard, even abusive ones.Originally posted by felix.ragav View PostOne of the Above mentioned engines had used chrome plated piston/bore which reqd absolutely no run in whatsoever! I wonder how long they lasted!
Incidentally, the Royal Enfield (Zundapp) Explorer and Silver Plus 50cc bikes also used chrome bores. Maybe the Fury, too (KS50/175, respectively).

KB125 parts catalogue: KB125
will add more as i remember it
I know I'm seeing this late, but excellent list and links, thanks. I had to discover most of these the hard way over the past decade or so of ownership (100/125 both).
Might add that front fork tubes/triple clamp/shock housing/pumps/springs/seals are basically interchangeable with Caliber / Wind and to some degree maybe even some of the Boxer / Aspire / 1st gen. Pulsars. There was a lot of parts sharing till more recently, and that's one of the reasons it's still feasible to be riding one of these, assuming the basic engine is okay. Crankshafts are of course rebuildable with only a new pin and bearings; main difficulties could be with pistons / rods / and especially cylinder blocks (especially genuine OE 125). I'm also not sure which other choke cables work (think they gave me ones from one of the Suzuki 2-strokes once), and bought out the last few at one of the well-known Karol Bagh manufacturer / suppliers, which surprisingly had been produced as late as 2014. Accelerator cable is of course a unique double-unit (from halfway) due to the oil pump, but if you don't feel a need for oil injection and don't mind pre-mixing, a simple single cable also works fine (did that on my 100 ultimately) - can't remember whether it was from the Caliber or Boxer or something else, but not too hard to match up.
I'd heard of the KH international nomenclature (Europe/UK?) but not the KTZ, and didn't realize the GTO (which I saw years ago in Thailand) was the same thing - there must have been zillions of these made. I'm finding a lot of the GTO's on u-tube being filmed in Pakistan. Wish I had a friend in either of these countries to send me an OE (125) cylinder block...

Fascinating info re: the resonator. I'd never really known what that thing was / what it was supposed to do (on my 100); the 125 doesn't have it, and not sure, with all its grunty low-end, that it really needs it.Originally posted by psr View PostThe ineffectiveness of the Resonator in KB125 was not because of the resonator itself but due to wrong size of it...Which is why I posted that the resonators are engine specific.A resonator meant for a 100cc cannot be fitted into a 125cc...The resonator basically stops standing waves in inlet and aids in better volumetric efficiency where the engine needs. By changing the size, shape and mouth length and dia the resonator can be tuned for any specific engine ...
I think the 125 comes with 14 teeth front sprocket and 38 rear..Try changing the front to 15 from Yam RX 100 or Suzuki AX 100..will give you better and smooth top end.
I've pretty often run a 16T front sprocket (Yamaha RXZ), and even custom-made a 17T (M80 Major), when touring was in view. The 125 has plenty of torque to pull these, though the 1-2 gap in ratios is more noticeable (come to think of it, I'm running an imported 5-speed gear setup, which also has a pretty big 1-2 gap, but the rest really close-ratio).

So you actually own a Prowler (5 spd version)??? I'd never even heard of it till today, and some references were suggesting that none were actually sold. Must be a fantastic bike. I've got a 5-spd conversion in my KB125, but the bike's been rebuilt / run hard / rebuilt / parts swapped a number of times, and a clean original would seem so appealing.Originally posted by msranade View PostTop end speed is not a problem with Prowler, I have crossed 120 Km/h (maximum available on console) with ease

parts sharing is one of the reasons why bajaj has been able to keep prices low ,also the reason i am able to keep her running till now , parts still are an issue , ,Originally posted by ringoism View PostI know I'm seeing this late, but excellent list and links, thanks. after like 26yrs my KB has finally been opened up completely. The engine is in a pretty good condition and less than a year had got new tyres. The only things that weren't working were the 2t oil pump, fuel guage, rpm meter. Rest all were in decent condition. Just that the paint was so dull...parts of the frame and chrome had rust.
I am abroad now but my old mechanic friend agreed to pick it from my place and do a full restoration of it. Right now it is completely stripped. The frame needs a couple of welds(There is play in the swingarm bushes, the rear shock bolt was loose). Parts are now ready to go for chrome and paint. We shall try and reuse as much as possible. Hoping not much replacements are required, ss we all know its like almost impossible to find parts now for this model. Will try and post some pics shortly.
