I started riding bikes when i was 13 (1988). 3 friends contributed and bought a beautiful 2nd hand RX-100 that barely had a 1000 miles on it. We loved it and rode it a lot. We even went to school on it which was funny because it would be like 3 boys in uniforms on one bike. We would park it at a friend's place so that school authorities wouldn't know.

But the first time I rode a KB-100 RTZ, I was hooked. I promptly bought my first bike (no sharing-caring BS this time LOL; she was all mine), a wine-red Delta-Tuned (whatever that meant) RTZ in 1990. She raped the RX in a straight line and decimated it with alarming ease around a twisty road. Suddenly the 7000+ rupee difference between the two (with the RX being the costlier one) started to look like a joke. The base KB-100 was slow, the RTZ and the 125 weren't. Among other things that overspecced her way above the competition (tacho, fuel-gauge, better tyres, thicker chain, bigger battery, full 12V electrical system, 35W headlamp), the RTZ also had Ceriani forks and a chassis that endowed her with peerless handling.

One of the downsides was that she sounded like a chirpy rickshaw and one needed to rip out all the tightly packed glasswool to free up a bit more power and the deep-throated 2-stroke rumble. Still she only sounded her best on the right side (pun intended) of 6000 rpm, wailing like a banshee right up to 4 o'clock on the tacho. I also sorely missed a 5th gear which this bike completely warranted. Another negative was that the spares sold by Bajaj for the KB were nowhere even near as close to the original, as far as quality was concerned. I had to import a right-hand side yoke after 3 local ones snapped due to "over-tightening". But other than that, the bike has always been an epitome of fun and reliability. It is the reason I fell in love even with the bigger Kawasakis and came to think of them as the Lamborghinis of the motorcycle world, despite (or because of?) knowing they are far from perfect.

I have a monster RD-350 now with a raft of RDD/HVC/EBC/Sudco performance parts. It makes normal RDs seem like mopeds. But for me, my favorite feel-good motorcycle is still the RTZ. It is inexplicable. There are many bikes that are faster, even handle better, are more fuel-efficient, but none as "sweet". I still have her and if there is only one motorcycle I could carry into the afterlife, she would be it.

Who needs more than 70 bhp when you don't need to slow down for the corners?

              A pic of my Bike

              Hi friends.

Wow Vivek, thank you for sharing your experience and I totally understand your admiration.

Find this picture of my KB on the Kovalam beach near chennai back in 2002. I have some real nice memories with her on the ECR. When I was in Chennai, one friday morning I left for Pondicherry, starting along with sunrise and rode her real cool, going between 50-60kmph. It gave me like 60kmpl and on the way back, I rode her full throtle for 110kms and managed that distance in a little over an hour, averaging like 90kmph.

Off late, unavailability of parts is hindering its performance a bit but still I have everything running on my bike except for the fuel guage

interesting that you say that. Cause the last i was in bajaj fo my P200's service i saw a RTZ 125 being assembled in front of me. I asked whose it was, i was told a khas friend of the owner of that showroom. I asked the owner if i get a RTZ can you help me out with spares engine and body, he was lie ya. See the bike infront of you. Got it all through bajaj. So going by his words spares seem to be there. But yes flipsyde finding Kbajaj spares wil be tougher than the shaolin i guess

                            Hello!!!!!!!!!

Warm hello to all gentlemen who've experienced the KB series ..
i would like to narrate my experience so far with the KB i currently own.

It all started last april 09.. i was working in mumbai and would ride back to pune on weekends. One fine sunday, our usual meet.. i was excited to take my ride(P180 classic) to the stunting yard since she just herself a new 130' 90.. rear, and had rejetted the carb with K&N.. she also sported a bigger rear sprocket which i borrowed from my friend.. Well, when we began practice i noticed two KB'ss both were having a black matt finish.. and were stripped only to leave their headlight and crashguards exposed... the fellows were popping decent wheelies though not carrying forward easily.. That moment struck a chord in my mind..

I recollected that there's a KB100 lying in our parking lot for like 10years!! which belonged to an uncle of mine who has been overseas , and i guess since he's left the bike's lying there.. After going home i got his email and made contact.. he was more than happy to know i was interested.. well it took me a week to wait for his reply.. The next weekend in pune i had the bike done up.. well only the engine, thinking i'd stunt on it.. but after riding her, my decision changed my uncle gave me full authority on her , although the bike's papers aren't with me , Its a pune passing 1989 model..

The reason why i'm writing such a lengthy post is that this experience of getting my FIRST bike (though unofficial) was overwhelming.. i had to shell out only 2.5k for her.. which i guess is decent..

Well, when she went to the garage her battery and left panel was missing, front forks rusted.. and speedo not working..
She looks kinda pathetic but i love every bit of her.. Even today she does not have a side panel, or a battery just have the headlight and tail working and good brakes.. Service her regularly .. thats it..

Happy to have this opportunity to post my experience and yes, if photos will be appreciated i can post them too!!
                            Cheers!!!

@yamdoot : Thanks for appreciating my post. My garage friend is kind enough to let me borrow a silencer which he calls an 'expansion' its specifically for two strokes he says.. i'm thinking of going in for it. I shall click photos of my KB before and after the silencer fitting.. i'm looking out for a second hand K&N for her too.. i cant afford the new one man.. Rest, my next post will be regarding photos. Ride safe guys.
