  • Yamaha Rxz Handling Issues

Hi Everyone this my first thread over here and im trying to get all your opinions and experience to create a perfect ride for myself.
I own a yamaha rxz 4 speed and is looking for some mods for better handling of the bike. Mods im about to do is
    1. fixing rear gas shocks for the bike. Pls let me know should i do it or should i stick with the stock one or which bike bikes gas shocks would be better for me
    2. Changing the swingarm of the bike into a box type one (removing the tyre a little bit behind from the body). Pls let me know which bikes swingarm would be a direct fit with no problems
    3. Tyre profile need to be change like the new age bikes that means 17 at the front and 18 at the rear. Suggest me the tyre company name and size for better handling on the bike
    4. Dunlop Geo Cruiser at the rear will be better or not on both dry and wet conditions
    5. Slipt handle bar like of the Apache or the Pulsar 200. Will it be able to do this on the Z which bikes handle bar would be a direct fit
    6. Getting rear set like of the apache and stunner fixed or modified on the bike(getting brakes Paddle, Gear Paddle and rider foot rest behind) if available tell me which bikes rear set would be a direct fit.
Pls reply me as all this modification depends upon your personal experience
    Thanks

      Welcome to Xbhp !

I own a yamaha rxz 4 speed and is looking for some mods for better handling of the bike. Mods im about to do is
      1. fixing rear gas shocks for the bike. Pls let me know should i do it or should i stick with the stock one or which bike bikes gas shocks would be better for me
Gas shocks will improve the ride at the rear, but if you wanna improve the handling, remember you need something that stiffens the suspension at front and rear, and not just at the rear. Just remember that the length of the gas shocks should be reasonably similar to the length of the original shocks

      2. Changing the swingarm of the bike into a box type one (removing the tyre a little bit behind from the body). Pls let me know which bikes swingarm would be a direct fit with no problems

You can buy box type swingarm for the RX thats a direct fit ( its foreign made, chinese/malaysian maybe ). I saw it in Karol bagh, comes with a mount point for a mono - shock up though. dunno if you wanna make your bike a mono shock, though it would improve the handling also. Or you can weld two mounts on the sides, and use that for mounting the gas shocks. It should not be more than 1k

      3. Tyre profile need to be change like the new age bikes that means 17 at the front and 18 at the rear. Suggest me the tyre company name and size for better handling on the bike

Nope, that means 17 front and 17 rear. Now the 18 inch alloys from the gladiator are a direct fit with the front forks and also at the rear. What does it get you? a disc setup at the front that can be used, and also better suspension travel at the front. If you really wanna get it on, you could try the R15 front and rear setup as well, though the front forks would require slight modification. You would need to change the front fork oil to a thicker grade ( like putting gear oil or engine oil), to stiffen it up for better handling and feedback on the road.

      4. Dunlop Geo Cruiser at the rear will be better or not on both dry and wet conditions

I am going for the M45 michelin for my RXZ, stock sizes, 2.75-18 front and 3.00 - 18 rear, maybe upsize them by 0.25 inches at both ends

      5. Slipt handle bar like of the Apache or the Pulsar 200. Will it be able to do this on the Z which bikes handle bar would be a direct fit

You mean "split", well the best would be the clip ons again from the R15, cheap and would help improve handling a lot, though you will have to get the front neck modded to restrict the range of motion of the front, or else it will touch the Tank.

      6. Getting rear set like of the apache and stunner fixed or modified on the bike(getting brakes Paddle, Gear Paddle and rider foot rest behind) if available tell me which bikes rear set would be a direct fit.

None actually, you will have to get the mounts made for whichever you want to get fitted. Though again the easiest choice would be the R15 footrests, with the mounts constructed on the rear footpeg mounting rod

Pls reply me as all this modification depends upon your personal experience
      Thanks
I reply you as all this depends on my personal experience and what all i am planning to do with my RXZ ( 5 speed with disc, so dont need the brakes improved). But i am not gonna be modding it beyond Clip ons and rear sets. The Bike is gonna be stock as far as possible.

there are gonna be a number of geeks in this regard, on xbhp, who can actually help not only you, but me as well with regards to deciding on the rearsets.

And you better appreciate this post coz it took me a good 10 mins to type!!! lol!!

Post some pics of your bike (current condition )

check out for gladiator swing arm ,Michelin tires are best in grip top acceleration don't go 17 inch bcz it cost u more .try gladiator rims it gives u front disk set up.for the handle setup u have change handle t if u wanna fit rtr handle than half cut the t make it plane and smoth . i also fit rtr handle in my bike i post it pics soon. for shocks try libero it gives good height and comfortableness

You are talking about an Exotic.
Any Yamaha for that matter is an excellent handler... If you trying to make that bike to a Track spec one, the above said mods make a lot sense. For street use, firstly do not touch the technical specs of the bike.

          1. Get the rear shocks hardened somewhere, I say this because the gas shocks might have faster rebound that the stock ones resulting in corner washouts. Try to avoid the gas shocks, but if you do not have an option then go for it.

          2. Do not alter the wheel base of the bike, as it has been designed to handle good with this. If you find a swing arm of the same length, so that it doesn't alter the wheel base, you could probably give it a try.

          3. Get the tubeless r15 front and rear tyres. Decent tyres and will hold well in wet as well as dry.

          4. If you are planning to get split handles, slide the fork arms to a little more height (so that the bikes front-end comes down) and then install the slip handles. Just make sure that the turning radius of the bike is not altered to a great extent. If you are altering the front end of the bike, the puny forks might not have able to hold all the g's on hard breaking and acceleration or even at high speeds. So you require a steering damper for more safety.

          3. If the above mod is done, you require a rear set as you do not have an option. As such, the stunners rear sets and the r15 rear sets are pretty good. But i dun think it would be a direct to fit to any of the old exotics. SO get a good welder and get the job done.

          4. You would require Mag alloys if you plan to go for a tubeless tyres, or you can stick with the tube ones with spokes wheel.

          5. If you get the spokes rim, then get a bit of chrome on whole bike. If you get the alloys, add a lil bit of black here and there.

          6. Get a quick throttle, for that extra leverage on power delivery. (if you already have one, get a bigger one!! )

          7. Get your engine restored to square one, or probably do a street port job for some extra power. (your choice)

          8. Convert yours to a 5 speed one, the bike will not be as good as a five speed, but it will be better.

When all the above mods are done you will have to spend a minimum of 15 - 20 grand on the bike.

of spend 5 - 10 grand and get the bike to stock condition, which will be more efficient in my opinion.

          cheers !!

i do not agree with wonderboy on the gas shocks. their damping is no different from the regular shocks.
all the gas does is improve response time. they still have oil in them to do the damping duties.
            imo, go for them.

on all other points, i agree with him. go the R15 way as much as you can.
avoid the fat tyres... the bikes too puny. go for the r15 ones.

            hint:
rx's rake it 27deg. drop the front by an inch, raise the rear by an inch. if you go for 17 inch front wheel, raise the rear by only 0.5 inch. increase wheelbase by 2 inches... and be amazed by the way the bike feels.

[IMP] only attempt this if your stock bike does not have a bent frame and twisted forks.

low bars and rearsets are essential.

            cheers

i completely agree with wonderboy on stock shocks point
i feel gas shocks are meant for heavier bikes
and the ride hieght varies which affects handling

                        dear friend,
for RXZ try to keep bike in stock condition as possible. For rear tyre just go for yezdi rim and tyre which gives bike a good handling.
the handbar best for RXZ is the FZ one which costs rs 230.I got a new one for my bike.
the bike has good suspension and gas shock absorber is not required for this 100cc bike .
go for a front disc apache rtr is good one i think its direct fit.

                          ^^ 100cc???

Alright listen up, sorry to hijack this thread, but i do wanna improve the handling of "my" RXZ.

                          - The tyres are gonna be chucked in favour of Michelin M45 ( stock size, 2.75 front, and 3.00 rear on the stock 18 inch rims )
                          - I wanna lower the front forks and fit clip-ons. Brand suggestions for the clip ons???? I know i will have to weld a stopper at the neck to reduce the movement of the handlebars, to prevent damage to the tank
                          - New Front forks and new rear suspension is coming in. I am looking at changing the grade of oil in the front, since the old suspension bottoms out too soon for me.
                          - the swingarm bush, axle and tensioners are gonna be replaced too.
                          - Oh yeah the Rims and spokes are gonna be changed, so the hubs are gonna be mounted again.

                          - I wanted to mount rear sets. Any advise and suggestion on the same?
