  • Query: Trichy - Wayanad

Hello fellow xbhpians, i ride an rtr 160 and clocked around 14k kms. I wanna go on ma rather first trip from trichy to wayanad along with a friend, just for the weekend. We are planning to take the standard google map route. We are planning to start tomorrow afternoon stay there for the night and return on sunday afternoon. I need your suggestions regarding the following points.
    -Road conditions
-How often i should take a break.
    - Any good affordable hotels in
    wayanad.
    - Any alternate route.
    -Trip start and end timing.
    -Spares to be carried along.
As the route goes via bandipur, wat is the advisable time to pass through. Appreciate your inputs regarding this , to make my first long ride a really memorable one.

@skyblues075: The best route u can take from trichy to Wayanad is
      Kadur-Coimbatore-Metupalayam-Ooty-Masinagudi-Bandipur-GUndlupet(Take left from RTO checkpost-Sulthan bathery-kalpetta

      Kadur-Coimbatore-Metupalayam-Ooty-Gudalur-Meenmuthy Falls-Krishnagiri-Sulthan bathery

You can also take Namakkal-Bhavani-Chamarajnagar-Bandipur.But the roads till Bhavani are very good and very boring. The roads after chamarajnagar are not worth mentioning. So the 1st route is Advisable as its very scenic and the road conditions are also good.
Taking breaks depends on you.Whenever u think you are straining your body never hesitate to take a break. You would be out to take a break from hectic worklife, not participating in any cross country race.Relax and ride.

You can find rooms for an affordable price in sulthan bathery or kalpetta.Knowing malayalam would be a bonus.

The best time to start a ride is early morning(Around 4).If you are not all that experienced on the route start a bit late after the sun comes out, no hurry.Make sure you know the timings of closure of entry to wild life sanctuaries.Ooty to Bandipur and gundlupet to bathery closes by 8.
First aid kit, toolkit, a pack of engine oil,Accelerator and clutchcables are a must.Try changing cables on your own so that u get familiar with the operation in case of a breakdown if the help is far away.

Kindly go through the article Guide to Riding in the Wild which would be helpful for you

Ok the first route is gonna take a 100 kms more than i thought.Anyways i will be riding with a pillion of 85 kgs and its gonna be a calm a nice ride.If i was riding solo it would have been a fast dash to my destinantion.I will be starting at 4 am tomorrow. Upto karur roads are bad.But after that they are a breeze to ride on.Can anyone suggest the places of interest around and whether i should stay in sulthan bathery ?

And i hope this is the route you are talking about!!

highway through bandipur/mudhumalai closes at 8 but I would strongle advise not to ride before 6 AM and after 6 PM, this area is known for a healthy population of elephants and trust me they are not gentle giants.

spares - get your bike serviced and carry spare tubes/cables/spark plug. apart from that the rtr should not give you too many problems.
