      Re: Bhor-varanghat-mahad road condition

      hi Satya,

Not sure if I am replying in-time or late.. just thought to be of help..
Also, I traveled on this route last year in my car and found that road condition is pathetic.
Big potholes on steep ascents and U-type pin bends. Major part of ghat at the top is single or 1.5 lane road (if bus or truck comes from other side, you have to get down the tar road)..

However, the nature and beauti of Sahyadri ranges that you get to see on this road totally compensates for the bad roads. I went in August so it had both sides of road covered with junglee flowers red/yellow, complete Switzerland feel.

While on your descent into Kokan towards Mahad, you will see one road towards right that goes to Shivthar-ghal. Its a religious place and "ghal" means small patch between 2 hillocks, I believe.

All in all, expect bad roads as this is NOT the frequently used road by major traffic (they take either Paud-Nizampur via Tamhini ghat OR Wai-Mahabaleshwar-Poladpur via Pasarni ghat)..

Let me know if you need more information..

      Thanks,
      Prasad

The Wai - Mahableshwar - Poladpur route is the best alternative at present, though the ascent up the Ghat from Wai to Mahableshwar is deteriorating (last rode this stretch on Nov 23, 2014)
