            DAY 1 CONTD...BELUR - HAILBIDU

Belur was another 26 Kms from Chickmaglur, rapped up my Lunch quickly and started for Belur, the place which is famous for the exquisite Hoyasala temples.Road condition was very good with very less traffic. So i reached Belur in No time.Headed straight to the Belur Temple.
Belur Temple - Belur was the Early capital of Hyosala Empire. That is why its is gifted with the belur temple having amazing architecture and beautiful sculptures. This temple is one of the marvel of Hyosala Empire.

The main attraction in Belur is the Chennakesava temple complex which contains the Chennakesava Temple ( dedicated to Chennakeshava , meaning handsome Vishnu) as the centre piece, surrounded by the Kappe Chennigraya temple.

These temple were built by king Vishnuvardhana in commemoration of his victory over the Cholas at Talakad in 1117 CE. Legend has it that it took 103 years to complete and Vishnuvardhana's grandson Veera Ballala II completed the task.

Next stop was Hailbid, another 17 kms ride. While i was leaving belur,Locals told me that the Temple in Belur is made by father and the temple in Hailbid is made by son.Beauty of the Belur Temple can be seen-enjoyed from inside. However Haibid temples beauty is all outside.

Halebid - Halebid means ruined city, reason behind giving this name was,the city was raided-ruined twice by Bahmani Sultanate.

            Some info from wiki

The temple complex comprises two Hindu temples, the Hoysaleshawara and Kedareshwara temples and two Jain basadi. In front of these temples there is a big lake. The two Nandi statues which are on the side of the Hoysaleshwara temple are monolithic. Soap stone or Chloritic Schist was used for the construction of these temples. However a number of sculptures in the temple are destructed by invaders. So the temple is incomplete. Halebid means old abode.

Profile of Hoysaleshwara Temple, HalebiduThe Hoysaleswara temple, dating back to the 1121 C.E., is astounding for its wealth of sculptural details. The walls of the temple are covered with an endless variety of depictions from Hindu mythology, animals, birds and Shilabalikas or dancing figures. Yet no two sculptures of the temple are the same. This magnificent temple guarded by a Nandi Bull was never completed, despite 86 years of labour. The Jain basadi nearby are equally rich in sculptural detail.

Some Carvings Similar to the Khajuraho ones

And the lake near by...Halebid temple

After visiting Halebid temple i started for Hassan, it started getting and i started feeling tired as i have been continuously riding from last day. I planned to stay at Hassan, which was another 50 kms from there. I reached Hassan around 6:30-7.Enquired about the route going towards Mysore and thought..Would stay at some hotel in that route. But got unlucky, no hotels for 30 Kms .I was so tired that i didn't wanted to ride even an single inch. But then i didn't wanted to go back inside the city again. So i moved ahead. After 30-40 Kms reached Narsipur and there was only lodge..For 100 rs/night. It was not that bad actually, so checked-in for the night.

Had one beer and slept tight.

            Cheers
            Biru

Ana Mudi 2,695 metres (8,842 ft) in Kerala the highest peak in Western Ghats. Doddabetta is 2,637 metres (8,652 ft). Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka 1,950 metres (6,398 ft). The Western Ghats in Kerala is home to many tea and coffee plantations.

                  Day 2
                  Narsipur - Mysore - Bandipur - Ooty - DodaBetta - Gudalur

Got a early morning start today, very rare in my case .Mysore was another 90 Kms from here. Road conditions was very good. Around 20 Kms before it met the 4 lane highway. Right side was Madikeri and Left side was Mysore.
Reached Mysore around 9 Am. Enquired about the road leading to Mysore palace.

To my surprise city roads were all empty, almost NIL traffic. Reached Mysore Palace, parked my bike in the parking lot and headed towards the Palace gate. Gates were closed, I thought its 9:20 am only so the gates would open around 10 AM. Just to confirm I asked the gatekeeper that, By what time entry will be allowed for the tourists. He replied, Today the Palace will be closed till 2 PM because of the Dussera Pooja.What!!!...Why today,Why not some other day

Got very disappointed as I had heard a lot about the beauty of the Mysore palace. After munching so many KM's I am here to adore the beauty of the Mysore Palace and it is closed,Not FAIR.
Anyway,There's always a next time..Saying this to myself I clicked few shots from outside and started for Bandipur-Ooty.

                  Enroute Bandipur

Bandipur,Whenever this name comes up.First thing which comes in your mind is wild elephants,Stories of wild Elephant chases told by the friends..Now it was my turn to experience all this and I was very excited about it.After covering around 50-60 Kms from Mysore, saw the entry gate for Bandipur.

Around 30-40 Kms of the road from Mysore was not in that good condition, also traffic was very high. But after entering the Bandipur National Park border roads became far better.I was riding very slow to spot the wild animals..And luckily spotted the Group of Elephants(Family I say) twice, just few feets far from the road. They were busy eating.. so I took the opportunity to click some close shots.

                  Beautiful roads....

Note - Entry inside the Park is not allowed before 6:00 am and after 7:00 pm each day.

Pretty Soon I reached Tamilnadu border.

There was some routine checking going on at the border.License,PUC and Bike papers and you are all free to go.Ooty was another 40 Kms from there. The TN side forest is called madhumalai.

Once you enter the TN side, after few Kms there is a Y junction. The left and right both takes you to the Ooty. But the left one is more scenic and have the famous 36 hairpin bends. So I obviously I took the left one

After few Kms I got into a pressure situation,so stopped for a break to release all kind of pressure.:P ..Was this really necessary to mention

Few Kms more and Finally first view of Nilgiris - The Blue Mountains.

The very famous chain of mountains having atleast 24 peeks.
The Mountain range sight was so fascinating that I was having a hard time to concentrate on the road. :P

Lol..Are Miyaan chal kya riyaa he

Spectcular view of the plain from the ghat section.

A small village..few kms before Ooty

                  More to Come
Ooty - Another Heaven on the earth
DodaBetta - Highest Peak in the Nilgiris

                  Cheers

                        Day 2 Contd........
                        Narsipur - Mysore - Bandipur - Ooty - DodaBetta - Gudalur

36 hairpin bends along with steep climb, what a treat to a biker.

                        Few Kms before the town

Loooongg Looooongg Pine trees..Reminded me of Patni Top

Soon i was riding on the narrow-crowded lanes of the uncrowned Queen of southern hills of India..Oootyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!!!
                        Ooty..Another Paradise on the earth.
Idyllic valleys view, plush flora and fauna,Pine Nest's,smell of home made choclates..It was very much mesmerizing and beautiful.
I headed directly to Ooty lake..This is an artificial lake
It is about 2-kilometers in length. It was first built in 1923-25 as irrigation tank

Had some Soya-balls and Maaza and started for Doddabetta.

                        Doddabetta
The highest peak of the Nilgiri Hill is at the altitude of 2623 meters above sea level. It is 10 Kilometers from the main down-town Ooty. Eastern and Western Ghats meets at Doddabetta.

View atop this peak is breath taking and it gives a bird eye view of the Nilgiri Hill ranges. I asked one local fella about nearby places to visit he told me there is a place nearby this rocky peak which is called suicide point, several persons have committed suicide from there..you can go there
I said thanks but no thanks..and ran away from there :P

                        Telescope at the doddabetta top

                        Quick Refreshment break outside Doddabetta

Few Birds - Can anyone identify them ??

Views while descending down from Doddabetta to Ooty

Next stop was Wayanad,i was not sure about the route. So started enquiring about it.Everyone advised me to go via Naduvattam-Gudalur.There were two options to reach Gudalur..Either i take the same route from which i came from..its 10-20 kms extra Or take the other route which goes from Naduvattam.I preferred the Naduvattam route.

Smooth Roads with no traffic..me likey likey

This road was full of twisties and blind turns.By the time i reached Gudalur it was all dark.

So i stopped in gudalur for night stay.Found plenty of stay options on the main road.Checked in a single deluxe room for 150 bucks after enquiring in 3 hotels ..

What a beautiful day this was..Ooty..I will come again for sure..very soon

                        Cheers
