Thanks heap friends for your appreciation. It was indeed a mind blowing adventure, which will surely cherish for life. Part of the tour was just the love for riding and part was the urge to see the beautiful country.. we have.
It was surprising for even us, what just started off as a small conversation between 2 of us, actually realized into one of the mammoth motorcycle expedition taken in the country. It took almost 2 months of preparation and lots of dedication to only get the sponsorship from our college but also to prepare out selves for the unforeseen adventure.
For a trial, we divided out journey into two separate parts. The south India Expedition and the Central/North/West India Expedition.
I will start off from 20th of August, when we moved towards conquering Khardungla. With tons of challenges on hand, we are thankful to many organisations and people who helped us in achieving our dreams.
Especially Our College, The Indian Air Force, The Indian Army and the strongest pillar of our borders The Border Road Organisation.Been There, Done That; Better!

Wonderful trip! Hats-off to you guys! All men dream, but not equally. Those that dream at night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act upon their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. - T. The Story to be told
The Prerequisites
For me, riding on two-wheels across India, was a dream which I wanted to pursue since I had my first license. Like any other college student, we had our share joy and enjoyment (impressing the fairer sex) with the motorcycles.
To cut the story short, 2 of us after experiencing more than 50,000Km of riding wanted to be at the K-top, at 18380ft. I had previously visited the K-top as well as Pang-Gang-Tso lake, long back as a kid.
The charm of riding on those un-paved layers of tarmac was something which was just too much to resist. But the single most reason which actually initiated us to move ahead with our plans was unfortunately a death of my fellow college mate. He died of a fatal road accident on Blr-Mysore highway.
He wasn't wearing a helmet! It wasn't imperative but essential to the cause. I never thought of "Saving Tigers" nor thought of "Saving water" by riding 11,000 odd kilometers. But of course it had to be "Save life"; be a safe rider. Thus the message we carried was "Safe riding"
Our initial plans started off in early January. Getting details of the route, the places liasoning with the Defence and so on. I knew that night travelling is avoidable but it's inevitable. Thus I had invested in HID’s long back. Travelling safe doesn’t mean riding slow on Express ways. Thus the bikes were tuned for rich air fuel mixture. We installed Iridium Spark Plugs as well, used Motul 300V Synthetic Oil. In short we made every possible effort to have as much as low maintenance possible.
Initially we had planned for a 50 day long trip with major long hauls. Our next investment was of course had to be the riding gear. Thus enters the “Cramster”. I’m sure going to write a book “45 Days with Cramster” but that’s another story.
We bought a kit comprising of
(1) Hot weather Gloves (2) Cold Weather Gloves (3) Touring Jacket (4) Touring Pants (5) Riding Boots (6) Saddle Bags (7) Tank Bags
As the D-day arrived closer, ie: 20th of August, the level anxiousness increased. Not only because it was a challenging task, but also lot of responsibility. With college making every possible efforts to publicise the efforts we are putting in, addressing huge gatherings of professors and students was quite a task for us! Speaking to media was equally stressful. We wanted leave as soon as possible.
Day 1 (August 20th) – A City too far!
With a “Rock Concert” organised by the college previous night for our flag off by the students, we were much tired. Rain God made things worse as there was heavy don pour the last evening.
Finally in the morning, we a brief address to the students we were flagged off at 11:30 a.m.
Was it the nervousness or sheer rush of adrenaline, I could actually feel my heart pumping much more blood than my body could handle. There were bit of emotional moments as well (read Girl Friends) with drops of tear here and there. But what really mattered for us that time was to be on the road to Hyderabad as fast we could.
By 1500 hrs we were approaching the Andhra border. Lots of sweat and scorching heat welcome us with open hands. We knew we had left Bangalore. With short tea breaks we continued towards our intended destination “Kurnool”.
Forward to 2000 hrs. Countless diversions and irresponsible bus drivers had made our lives hell. Tired thought of calling it a day and reached comfortably to Kurnool. Our next mission was to search for a suitable place to stretch ourselves for the night.
We checked out more than 15 hotels in the city. We got one reply “This the marriage season Sir, we are extremely sorry”. From tariff ranging from 100 Rs a day to 3000 Rs a day, we could not find a single hotel.
We had less time, and were absolutely tired. Its almost 2300 hrs, at least we had our dinner. What to do next? Our first leg and so many problems? We had two options. Either to halt for a night at the railway station or continue towards Hyderabad, which seemed more difficult then climbing Mt Everest. It’s almost mid-night and some 250 more odd kilometres to continue.
But the enthusiasm in us told us to continue. And we did. But it was a mistake we could have avoided at that time. Although we reached safely, we reached Hyderabad by 0500 hrs, due to extremely bad roads. We somehow managed to enter a hotel called “Three Castles” and went off to sleep with our Cramster on!

Amazing stuff guys.. keep it coming.
You guys did it at the right time.. while in college. Afterwards, opportunities of such rides will be very very few. And frustrating.
