  • Ride to Dharmasthala and Mangalore

To start with I wish all Xbhpians a very happy Diwali. To celebrate this Diwali in style n more adventurous my self and my room mate (Pradeep) decided to ride home from Bangalore by bike. Pradeep to Mangalore (400km) and me to Dharmasthala(345km). Myself on TVS Apachae RTR 180 and Pradeep on his YAMAHA R15. As the wheather was getting detoriarating day by day, we thought of have a look of weather prediction, Weather god helped us by nor downpouring in the morning. So we decided to launch ourselves on Friday 5th Nov 2010, We started from Girinagar (Bangalore) at sharp 6am, With all protective gears and baggage we atarted to roll.Went to Ganesha temple near to our room, asked his blessings for our safe journey.
We took NICE road (PESIT College) and joined Tumkur road, It was cool morning and the ride was good, then we took divertion at Nelamangala towards Hassan. Upto Nelamagala the road was good only some road humps were testing our patience and some impatient padestrains. After Nelamagala it was NH48, but due to road widening work going on, we had keep an eye on our throttle to not speed, just it was a cautionary riding. There was lots of diversion lots of humps upto Kunigal. Then came the worst road with lots of pot holes and bumpiness upto another 15km road was damp. After Kunigal we started to cruise, road condition was comparatively good. We reached Kamath Upachar (Chenrayapatna) by 8.45am, stopped for the break had some Dosas, idlis and Kesari bath. Took some pics got our bike chain lubed and again we started from there by 9.20am. From Kamath the raod was ours, we doing good speeds around 115~120kmph started to push and we reached Hassan.

From Hassan we decided to go by Charmadi Ghat since Shiradi Ghat road condition was absolutely no go for bikes. So we took Belur-Hassan road, one of my favorate road in Karnataka, It was a full throttle ride, nice sweeping curves. Half an hour we reached Belur. From Belur we took amother divertion towards Mudigere, narrow road but raod condition is good, but bumpy. watch out for stray dogs and pedestrains crossing roads. We reached Mudigere and started to march towards Kottigehara, The road from mudigere to Kottigehara is awesome nicely layed but watch out for some blind corners.
From Kottigehara, the real challenge for a biker starts, The ghat section which I love very much to ride. We were donig god speeds on the ghat section sweeping all the corners. Just transfer the body look into the corner open the throttle.... wow it was awesome. We stopped near Annapa Temple in between the ghat, offered our prayers, clicked some pics and started once again, The ghat sction was absolutely green, the fresh air, coolness of wind hitting our face cherished me. How ever it was getting late so we thought of start.

From Annapa Temple the real ghat starts with 11 hair pin curves and some dangerous broken roads. we negotiated each and every obstacles and reached Ujire, where Pradeep and me had to depart. I was just 9km away from my home and Pradeep still had to cover another 65km. We talked to each other about our ride and started to move to our respective natives, By 1.00pm I was in home. My parents and siblings welcoming me with great joy and happiness....Thankfully wheather god was busy watching our ride, forgot to shower.
Diwali celebration was good in my home, had nice Diwali bath and had nice food and took nice nap thinking of our ride. By 2.30pm Pradeep confirmed me reaching his home. It was very nice ride overall.

Had done a similar ride to Mangalore via Kudremukh Ghats last year with Arun V. Me on a Unicorn and him on a Classic Pulsar.

Had made a short video of the ride through the Kudremukh Ghats with a mounted cam. Not great quality vid though.

Sorry for that.... Yes it was us only...Since we were speeding on the road, we were more concentrated on the roads and pedestrians. Its great feeling that , somebody from xBHP could notice us... he he he...

Dats k bro..........things like this happen.......and good that you didnt take the shiradi ghat, it was a virtual death trap. I was in two minds to take shiradi or charmadi. The last time i took shiradi it was in a much much better condition. And moreover it was raining on the charmadi route(courtesy: a cabbie whom I met in Dharmasthala)

As we knew in prior about the road condition, we planed to go through Charmadi itself. Though RTR could go through Shiradi, R15 had to suffer a lot, So we had to go thru Charmadi....Anyways it was nice ride....

Yeah! since i'm from Dharmasthala itself, I visit temple very early in the morning or at night as the no of pilgrims get less. So I need not to worry about the queue.

Bang your head, while standing opposite/close to a wall, speed @2-3kmph? Hurts?
Increase your speed & watch the fun, when someone falls from a Motorcycle, unfortunately he can't choose which way to fall best & hurt himself less.
