@All thank you @MG - I use 18-55mm the one with come with the 450D kit.
I have been to Ooty many times during my school days vacations, but never been there on bike. Had 4 days leave, initial plan was to go Kodachadri. Since Rahul didn’t get his bike after service decided to drop that. Rahul said he will get his bike only by Saturday afternoon. So I decide to head to Nagangode, my cousins place. Started by 3pm from Bangalore. It was boring ride till Mysore. I stopped only twice.Once near MCD. I saw a foreigner with his son may be 10 year old. They were in a Red ZMA R, son as a pillion with big red bag. All together full red, even the dress .
I Reached Nagangode by 6pm. I was too hungry since I didn’t have lunch. My cousin cooked Fish fry for me. I had it with bread and coupe of pegs Plan was to go Ooty next day early morning, but we talked till 2 in the night. Both of us didn’t wakeup till 7am. Then I saw miss call from Rahul. I tried to wake him up , failed attempt
Rahul, his room mate and Vinal were going to Gopalswamybeta. When I called him back they were having breakfast. I joined them had break fast. I tried to convince them to come to Ooty.. It was another failed attempt 4 the day . We all started towards GS betta. Once we reached Gundelpet I went ahead and rode fast. I didn’t stop at where we have to take diversion to GS betta. Road was really bad from Gundelpet till this point, I was quite ahead so they didn’t notice me going ahead to Ooty . In fact I had stopped they wont allow me to go alone to Ooty. But I badly wanted to see Ooty. I went ahead reached Bandipore , road was narrow but got. It started drizzling. Too many thoughts came in to my mind, going alone, first time in this route, what if it rains too much? what if it punctured in middle of jungle (didn’t take foot pump also)?. . I gave a second thought whether to go back and join them. But Idecided to go ahead. Mean while got a miss call from Vinal, I sms him that I am heading to Ooty.
I really enjoyed the freedom, stopped every now an then to click photos. Not that I wont stop when I go with them.. he he .But still I was stopping very often enjoying every bit of it. Saw couple of peacocks’ , wild hen and some birds. But still didnt see what I was looking for. Soon I reached another check post, I think , Mudumalai. Took a diversion from there towards Ooty. Saw deer herds on the way, but couldn’t click them. After some time I saw milestone 39 km. I was really surprised. My idea was Gundelpet-Ooty was 100km. And I was sure that I didn’t travel 61 km. I thought it could be a mistake. More I went ahead I realized that the milestone figures are correct.Soon I reached the down hill where the 36 hair pin bends ghat section starts. I have read about this ghat section from xBhp many times and wanted to do it.I didn’t knew that I was doing same route it self. I was more than happy. Also I thought I will calculate the actual distance Gundelpet-Ooty while coming back.

All men dream, but not equally. Those that dream at night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act upon their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. - T. E. Lawrence
Thanks for that write-up and the pictures have come out beautiful.. The 18-55 IS ain't that bad now, is it? I also use the 18-55 pretty extensively and find it to be rather very good, considering the price of the lens..

Yup George! I never saw you posting a pic or participating in a ride. Do you hate touring?
