              hi guys..

sorry guys for so late postings... On 6th Oct, 2008, I with my frn Sanjay did Mysore --Bandipur--Ooty--conoor from Bangalore in 3 days trip...My frn is a noted lecturer in Jabalpur. Any one doing Engineering in CSE, IT, EE must be kowing him...he runs his coachin too..It has been long since we met last time..so we decided to spend some time together...Initially we had planned to visit goa for couple of days, As the planned date of our trip was coming closer he suddenly told me he wanted to see different palces instead of seeing one and would prefer any hill station...so we decided to make it to Ooty and Conoor...We had 3 days in had...

On 6th Oct evening we started quite late for bangalore...got batrries and rolls at 1900 hrs from nearby Whizz shope...he took the privilege to take fist snap..I had Minolta 1998 model without any extra accessary.

Guys, I am not able to reduce image size to the required size for the xBHP site without loosing the quality..I expect some one's help here...So pls bear with me...read out log here and you can see picture at
                  Picasa Web Albums - Dpk - Mysore--Bandi...

The whole trip was quite exciting. We started at 1930 hrs from bangalore on 6th Oct, and were able to leave the city by 2930 hrs only. (thanks to traffic on mysore road flyover)...Noticed Castrol Bike ZONE there...(Let me know if you know any with in city too..)..

We were goning taking coffee and tea breaks...There is barista in the way where you can take coffee break and more importantly you can give rest to your back on cozy couches..
There are many dhabas for tea break..Kamat comes in the way just as you leave bangalore...a nice place to have quality snacks and tea.

Because of our so many breaks we reached Mysore at 0030 hrs...so no place to go, we tried accommodation in Government guest house there..but it was full due to dasshera...In second attempt only got accommodation in another guest house...

Woke up late, and reached Mysore palace at 1000 hrs..stayed there for couple of hours took some snaps..and started for Chamundi hills...in the way to chandumdihills there comes the mysore lake...A place I won't recommend if don't have enough time...but not a bad place to rest for some time...boating is available but lake is quite small...

spending some time at lake we left for chamundi hills...This a place must to visit...nicely maintained roads...go to temple, roam around,...After chamundi hills we were all set to go for Bandipur..You did't have to ride all the way down the chanmundi hills...there is a diversion which takes you to the bandipur highway..It saves some 10 KMs of ride...

As you leave mysore and head towards bandipur...you;ll see villages only in the way..No big city..Here also, we were going taking breaks every were for tea...tender coconut...If am not wrong Visveshwaraiah was the bigest village we found in the way...we found one of udupi chain restaurant there, and had our food...

We reached bandipur checkpost at arount 1800 hrs..we enquired about the wild animals and commuters safety before entering in the jungle...There wasn't anyone going inside the jungle at that time, so we thought it's better to enquire first before entering...Checkpost guard was good person..he didn't know hindi or english still we could communicate well..

Everything was fine till this point...We had no conplains about any thing in the world...We entered into the jungle...It had been only 2-3 Kms when suddenly it started drizzling...We thought it's some thing very normal and might be over in few minutes...but within 5 mins everyting was dark as late night, no light from any where...Glasswool of bike was creating some problem..It was strucked at the silencer exit...So bike was slowing down...Rain had gained momentum so we stopped...parked bike and we both were under one umbrella now waiting for rain to stop...After 10-15 mins seeing no changes in raining we started thinking of alternatives...the guest house was some 8 to 10 kms further inside the jungle...and now even bike was not going well...you can imagine two guys inside the thick forest, on the road with one umbrella...at that moment only, we noticed one sign board just beside us telling that it was elephant zone so neither honk nor stop here...This board scared us like any thing...we decided either we'd go forward or we'd return back up to the check post which was just 2-3 kms ...At the same time on jeep passed by us and one guy screamed on us for standing in jungle, when there was no light and it was raining heavily...We took it as alarming call..we decided to go back to the check post...

By the time we reached check post we were all wet...check post had just one room of 10 feet x10 feet...just one chair...walls were leaking from everywhere...and water was spreading all over the floor...we had no alternatives but to stay there...we knew if rain didn't stop we would have to spend whole night there only..After nearly two hours it stopped raining..we three now including guard had coffee...Now guard was not suggesting us to go inside the jungle not even up to the forest guest house in the pitch dark night on bike...

At coffee stall, we met one localite who was going inside the jungle...he told he would give us company to the guest house...It was better to spend night in guest house than in check post ..So decided to ride up to the guest house in the jungle....though he was drunk. there was little or no risk as he was localite and know to guard and coffee guy...

He dropped us to the guest house...we thanked him and headed towards the guest house...now the next problem...there wasn't any one at the guest house reception,...guest house lights were on but it was locked...there wasn't any lamp post nearby so harldly anythign was visible..we could see things just up to few meters far from us...and light was coming and going...we thought of taking a round of guest house hoping to see some one around...we started walking in the dark, we didn't have tourch (a big mistake)..as we went to the side of guest house we sensed a number of animals walking around...first feeling was fear as nothing was visible clearly...then standing for a while we realized we are surrounded by deer...by our walking noise they too noticed presence of aliens but were not scared...There were many cottages of forest guest house at bandipur..we saw light in one of the cottages..we went there..knocked and some one asked us to come in...we went inside...say a guy working on the his laptop...we briefed him about all the issue and asked him if he could be of any help..he promptly asked to take the route back to the Mysore...He alsp told that the reception guy must be gone for food and would be back in some time...

So with hopes in heart we left back to reception...there were some wan's parked...we thought If recpetion guy didn't come then we would spend night inside any wan...and found door of one wan open...so were a lot relaxed now...You always appreciate even a little bit of some thing when you are hopeless of anything...

At the same time the reception guy came..And now we had a whole cottage with us...He arranged our dinner too...So from nothing in had to a luxurious cottage with dinner...We both remember whole sequence of events, laughed and went to sleep...we could hear different voices of animals coming from all around through out the night...

Something important for Ooty going guyz

There are two ways to go to ooty from bandipur...one is through Gudlur and another one is through masingudi..

The way via gudlur is 30km longer, but quite safer and a lot of villages will come in the way where one can take breaks and help required...you will also see some tea estates in the way...a better scenic opportunity via Gudlur...If you take this route you skip the notorious 37 hair pin turns too...here ride is cool, and you can watch scenaries around you..

If you go via Masingudi...that is 30 km shorted that Gudlur...but a bit riskier...Less populated...and one few villages...In this way you'll go through 37 hair pins...that has its own thrill but after a few turns you may start to dislike the routine slow speed and too cautious ride...

I have tride both the ways...while going I went throuth Gudlur and while coming back I tried 37 hair pin turns and came via masin gudi...If you not in big numbers them better to take Gudlur way...and specially if you have any pillion specially your girl friend they don't risk and go via Gudlur...

At at point in the bandipur jundle after the forest fuest house there are two ways...left one goes through Masin gudi and hence through 37 hair pin turns and the right one goes through Gudlur...for comfortable and cool ride...

Its worth burning fuel for 30 km extra...believe me and try out once...

Hope this helps ppl making ooty as their next trip...

                      Have fun..

                      Deepak

yaar ,the language became difficult to follow when you tried to brief the incidence.anyways ,it is the worst thing in forest roads AFAIK - that two wheeler riders are only mostly chased by Elephants .

@shadez, That is in Ooty...at the highest point...There are two ways from the parking place, one leads to the telescope view point, you'll see everyone following that, and second one goes the that hut...Generally no body goes there...we were just exploring other places to see there and saw that hut...
