Be warned - there's gonna be lot of tyre pics

Spoke to ravi for a moment and this time we decided to time ourselves and see the avg. In the mean while i got all excited abt scraping the foot pegs for the firsttime and took a lot of pics of tyres and the foot pegs.I noticed that the cornor of the tyres became rough and the scratch in the peg was hardly visible.

We moved on to get the token/pass to go uphill after a small confusion abt the route. When we were waiting for our turn for the security check the police personal recognised us as we were coming there for the second time in less than 1 hour. He enquired with as to were we are coming from and was surprised when we told him that we are from hyderabad. He was asking the details about bikes as he wanted to get one for his son.Had a nice conversation with him for some 10-15mins and moved for our security check. We are done with it but we had no idea how to time ourselves to the top as both of did'nt have(or did'nt know) stop watch in our cellphone or our watches. So i thought i'll take a pic of my speedometer....it has a clock in it and again take a pic when we reach the top for an approx time as we were'nt trying to set a record. but ravi discovered his watch had a stop clock after all these days. and he started the time and i was happily taking photo of my speedometer. he was yelling at me that he had started the time....i quickly put my phone inside and start and ravi too starts.

Time and Kms on my RTR at the start of the ghats......08.44am and 703.1Kms

We ripped for a while but there was an increase in the traffic when compared to the morning. But we knew wat cornors we can execpt as we have already done the ghats twice.we had lot more confidence this time and were able to cornor well. But the buses slowed us down to a large extent.Which also made us forget that we were timing our self and we were riding in top gear even at 60kmph in a uphill. After sometime we realised this and were back to ripping again. Ravi made clear through a bus while i was stuck behind it for a good 2 mins. Overtook it and was ripping at time taking cornors at 90+kmph. I could'nt spot ravi for quiet a while. I almost caught up with him at one point but thanks to a good jeep driver i had to overshoot a cornor and breakhard in a wetpatch. And thats it i never saw him again in the ghats. And i forgot to mention that all the ppl were looking at us weirdly coz i think they have never seen and rider in the ghats with helmet, jackets and shoe's on.Scraped the pegs again for a fewtimes. When i reached the top ravi was waiting to stop thw clock. I reached there 30sec after him.

Time and kms at the top of the hill! 09.01Am and 720.3Kms

      Our timings were 16mins and 40sec's-Ravi and 17mins and 10sec's - Me

Kms from downhill to up is 17.2 Kms.....hmmmm.....not bad for starters. With less traffic and with enough knowledge abt the cornor's thats gonna come am sure it can be done under 14mins!

Was talking abt this with kriss and i forgot to notice his new avatar! Here it is.

      Does'nt he looklike a villan...Gabbar may be

Now look at praveen at the same angle....whom does he resemble??

We started immediately as me and ravi wanted to leave for hyderabad at 11am itself and it was already 9.15am. Again ravi went ahead while me, praveen and kriss ride together for sometime. As the cornors started i started to rip too. Then came a long downhill straight which was abt 1.5kms, i crouched down and gave full throttle. My bike showed 136kmph on the speedo and was hoping to see 140kmph, but i had to brake coz of a slow moving bus. Only then i remembered that kriss had asked us to stop at the deer park somewhere in the ghats.I did'nt know where it was so i waited for them and called up ravi informing him the same. In the meanwhile i take some pics of my tyres and the footpeg which i scraped again.

All of the arrived. Went to the deer park. All of us fed some carrot's and other things to the deers for abt 20mins.It was fun feeding them.

      Ravi feeding the deers

      Praveen

      My turn

      Ravi posing with some girls

Saw the bikes parked this way...i liked it

Started off to the hotel and nowwe were really ripping off. As usual ravi went ahead. Stopped at one place as i got a call from home. kriss and praveen passed me but stopped and kriss walked towards me. I thought he was going to yell at me as i stopped doing a stoppie in the ghats. But he came to grab my cellphone for some HOLY jokes that i had.

Kriss coming towards me.....look at him

I started off while they both enjoy the jokes. I was almost near the end of the ghat, there was a long left hander. Now i have this bad habit of looking at the road just 5-10feet ahead of me while cornoring and not straight into the cornor.

      like this

But this time i tried to look straight rather than looking at the road near by this time.i took the cornor at 95-100kmph now i look into the cornor and those 3 or 5 sec in the cornor was awesome.everything seemed to slowdown around me i looked to my left side and saw the railing going past me in a rapid pace. Adrenaline was on all time high for me in those 5 sec's. It was nothing like i have experienced before. Enjoyed it to the max!My love for ghats and cornor's started eversince. Reached downhill where ravi was waiting for us. Now me and ravi were wondering how cum we scrap our foot pegs so easily while cornoring as the lean angle was very high when we try to touch the pegs when the bike was stationary. We tried leaning the 220 and the RTR to see how we were leaning, it was very high. could'nt figure out how we did it. We were very much confused abt it for a while. Our dumb heads later realised that the shock observers would compress while cornoring!:dWe waited for quite sometimes before kriss and praveen showed up!

Time was 10am and we know that our plans to start at 11am and reach hyderabad by 9pm has already gone down in the drains. kriss and praveen leave from there as they had reach their homes right away. They showed us the route to the hotel. We reach the hotel after some confusion abt the it.We take bath and have our breakfast when kriss and praveen come to our room. kriss leaves immediatly and asked praveen to escort us outside tirupathi so we dont get lost anywhere. We packed up all our stuffs and praveen was busy transfering pics, videos and some holy comedy sound clips from my phone and me too from his phone.Packed everything, settled the hotel bill. But praveen was getting constant calls from his home asking him to come down as he was with us most of the time he was in tirupathi. So we asked him to leave and told him we'll find our way out of the city and assured him we'll be fine. He leaves half hearted. Ravikiran checks the oil level in his bike. He got a can of Motul 300V thinking that he might have to top up. But his baby was performing flawlessly. He gets his custom made hand grips:d in place and ties his bag to the back of his bike and warms up the engine while i go on spree to click pics of the tyre again

      Trip reading of ravi's P220....Kms - 705.5 and Odo reading - 6452 kms

Trip reading of my RTR at the start of our return journery.....Time - 12.53pm.....Kms - 743.3....error - 37.8 Kms

Started off from the hotel at 1pm and searched for speed petrol. Somehow we managed to find the petrol bunk from where we filled up yesterday but they were out of stock.infact almost all the BP station were out of stock in tirupathi. Finally we ended up filling power petrol after much hesitation from ravi. The filling boys were surprised when we told them we were returning to hyderabad on our bikes It was very very hot there. Bought 2 bottles of mineral water and me and ravi almost drank a bottle of water there and started off after checking our tyre pressure. We rode together till the outer were we found Speed:d. Both of us stopped there and we decided to ride as fast and cover as many Kms as possible before the darkness creeps in. I wanted to take the route via vijayawada riding thru the GQ, but ravi discouraged me and said that by the time we reach vijayawada it would be dark and it would be a nightmare riding from there to hyderabad and moreover Vijayawada hyderabad highway is said to be one of the most dangerous highway in AP. I wanted to do it even if i had to ride alone. But then i gave a thought abt it and there must be a strong reason why he discouraged me and i trusted him a lot. So i dropped the plan.I asked him to go ahead and not to wait for me as the roads till cadappha were excellent! and i did'nt want him to ride slow without enjoying such a neat higway. we decided to meet in cuddapha. He started off while i thought to listen to songs from my phone till cudappha. Took out my earphone and started riding. But the earphones kept falling of my ear's inside the helmet.Stopped and took it out and put it back into my bag. Poured some IFTEX into the petrol tank and started off.Wasted a lot of time here Rode till sometime and the speedo showed nothing less of 110kmph. My palms started to ache. stopped to check my gloves and i noticed some stichings gave way in it.i removed it and put it in my back had some water took a pic of the tripmeter and started again.

      Trip reading ..... Time - 2.14pm kms - 791.2

I kept riding as fast as i can as i knew ravi would be waiting for me. Kept the bike above 110kmph all the time. But suddenly my bike starts to skid and the rear wheel locks up for a moment i thought that the engine must has sezied,So i immediatly pull in the clutch but the wheel still did'nt budge and this confused me evenmore as i was skidding at 100+ speeds. Managed to get the bike to halt without crashing. Got down and i checked the bike and the engine was running normally. I rotate the wheel it was rolling freely.I could'nt figure out wat went wrong and my heart kept beating rapidly.Without wasting time i started off. There was lot of villages in this highway and there were lot of speed breakers as well without proper markings.Saw one such speed breaker and breaked slowly the rear locked up again and this time. Now i knew there was some problem with the breaks. Got down and checked the break and to my horror the brake return spring gave way.

      Breakspring which gaveway

But the break was working fine. Without the spring i was not even realising that i was hitting the breaks.....no feel from the break pedal. Took me some 10-15 mins to find this and remove the spring. Started off again but was careful enough not to step on the pedal unknowingly. I used only the front disc until i was comfortable using the rear . I was getting constant calls from office and everytime i attend the call, i ended up wasting abt 5-10mins. Lost lot of time there. From there on, i ripped non stop and stopped at a place for water. Saw some missed calls from ravi. called him up he said he was waiting for me in cudappaha. And when i saw the trip meter i roughly calculate that i have done only 90kms since start after some logic lessons from ravi i realised i have done almost 150kms and was only 20kms short of cuddapa.

Trip reading at waterstop. Time - 3.45pm. Kms - 890.7 Kms

He said he'll wait for me and i start of immediatly.A bugger riding triples almost crashed head on with meHe was riding in the wrong direction. After a few exchanges of some angry looks i get there quickly.Ravi clicks a pic of me when i was arriving and the first word that came out his mouth was "Moron am waiting for u over 45mins". Well wat can i say.He always rides fast and i always ride slow. He was thinking of waiting for another 5mins and leave if i dont show up. But i gave him a call in the right moment. He checks out my bike as i told him abt the break thing.

Ravi waiting for me He was saying "Moron" when i clicked this pic

      Ravi checking out my bike!

He asked how come ur bike is clean and i asked him why he said it rained cats and dogs while he was coming and he got totally drenched it seems and i did'nt even see a single drop of water and even the roads were dry. That was freaky. we decided to have lunch in cudappha itself instead of our initial plans to have it in kurnool as it was 4.15pm already. So ravi asked me to start of and find any hotel for lunch while he gears up.I rode for abt 5kms and i spot a small hotel. I waited for ravi while i clicked some pics. I saw ravi heading towards me while over taking a bus, initially he failed to notice me but he spotted me when he was abt cross me and breaked real hard....i would say the perfect breaking and move towards the roghtside of the orad and into the feild as the bus behind him was very close! Went to the hotel had lunch(meals) and started off again. The hotel ppl(again) were surprised on hearing us that we rode to tirupathi.

      Me!

It was 4.45pm and we made it a point to cover as many kms possible in daylight. We were ripping madly on the cudduapha- kurnool road which is a 2lane road with no dividers and the condition of the road was pathetic. I rode the entire distance crouching.Did'nt lift my thumb of the horn when passing thru villeages.Ppl were looking at us wierdly and there was one Tavera which i kept overtaking very often. Did'nt do it wantedly though. all the kid's in the car used to yell whenever they or me overtook. It was fun playing with them. At one point i was leading and was doing 110kmph. There was a left cornor which i took it in the same speed and as soon as the cornor ended there was a small bridge where i slowed down to 80-85kmph and at the end of the bridge there was small slope and there was big speed breaker which was not visible at all. Saw it when i was hardly 20mtrs ahead of it and thought of breaking real hard but i saw a bus heading towards me in the opposite direction, was scared wat if i skid and go under the bus if i break hard.So i went over the speed breaker at over 80kmph and was in the air for abt 2 sec's.All the people in the bus looked at me weirdly. ravi also did the samething. Ravi was leading this time and again speed were above 110.We went past a lorry and a group of village cyclist very fastly. And as soon as we crossed them something fell off ravi's 220 and stopped immediatly and i too stopped by doing a stoppie which the villagers saw. Ravi went and picked up the thing which fell off his bike....its was the plastic cap with had oil cooler on it. It was attached to the oil cooler. the lorry guy and the cyclist went past us and asked us "yethuku antha pickup ichukunta velthunaru"(why are u riding with soo much pick up). We did'nt mind him and started off again.

Oil cooler Cap which fell of the bike!

Ravi stopped suddenly asked him why he said his phone was missing when he checked his pocket it was there. This stop turned out to be our pee stop too. Took some pics started off.

After about 24kms we were in a small town(forgot its name) ravi stopped again and said he could'nt find his Nokia N73.The last time when he said he lost his phone,he had kept it in his jean pocket while usually he keeps it in his jacket. now he had kept the phone in his jacket pocket but forgot to put the zipper.guess it had fallen off somewhere in those 24kms. We tried calling up his phone from mine but no one picked it up and we were surprised that it was still working as at no point in those 24kms did we ride at less than 100kmph. So i must have fallen of at 100 and it was still working. After a lot of calls someone picked it up but were not talking. Guess it was some villager who did'nt know that it was auctually a cellphone. I could hear him speaking to other person saying the phone stopped making noise as he did something. we waited there for abt 30-45mins wondering wat to do. he was very much upset about it as he bought it for 24k when it was launched and both he and his GF(ex-gf) bought it together. It was almost dark and we could'nt do anything about it and we defiently could not go and search for the phone in those 24kms. So we finally decided to move. Got prepared for the night ride. Drank some water, cleaned the visors and tied a kerchief around my nose as it was cold and from there on ravi was leading and i simply followed him. We rode constantly at 80-85kmph all the way till kurnool hitting 100 whereever the road was good with no oncoming traffic.had a tough time keeping my visor up as it kept on closing as it was loose. Reached kurnool at 8pm and called up kriss as there was lot of missed calls from his no.Told him abt ravi's cellphone. Ravi's 220 tank was almost empty so he had to fill up his tank and our search for Speed petrol starts.(Did i forget to mention that i was feeling damn sleepy and was finding it very difficult to ride??).

We remember seeing a BP owned petrol bunk a few kms before kurnool while going. We searched for that petrol bunk and found it some 10kms after kurnool. The bunk was huge and it was opened only 2days back. Ravi filled up his tank and i was 2 minds whether to fill or not as my bike was yet to fall into reserve. But i filled up but this took a lot of time as they could not fill other vehicles without printing the recipt and they did'nt have the paper to print and did'nt have a credit card machine. Filled up with cash. Those guys were surprised when we replied them that we were returning back from tirupathi to hyderabad. We moved to the cafeteria within the bunk. And relax there for a while. Ravi calls up his home and breaks the sad news to them. I go and get a tea for me as i was feeling very very sleepy. we sat there and were chatting for a while and we discovered the a nut supporting the front axle in the 220 was loose and almost 75% of the nut had come out we tighten it. There were lot of ppl around and were looking at us wierdly. Two guys walked up to us and were checking out ravi's 220 and asked us if it was the "NEW PULSARMANIA" bike from bajaj.....we were like F@#K....ppl were think pulsarmania ad to a new bike from bajaj. We tell him abt it and he was awesome bike man. There was a gang of collage students(they were all girls mind it) on a tour to somewhere.they stopped there for dinner and everyone of them were looking at us and i said to myself "satish u bugger....finallyu too are getting some looks from the girls". I go and freshen up myself in the toilet and a proffesser from that gals collage also walkin...after a while he asked abt us and where we are coming from and was shocked on hearing it i came out and saw ravi in the xbhp t-shirt and we realised that there was not even a single pic of us with XBHP t-shirt. So we click a few pic with the t-shirt. Then it was ravi's turn to freshen up while i kept clicking some pics! As soon as he came back he started searching for something inside 220's faring. he said there was a knob to adjust the high and low beam of the bike and he searched for it for a good 15 mins and found the knob to adjust the headlights. He packed up everything and wanted to focus the highbeam slightly up so that truckers and buses dip their lights. Done with the adjustment and we finally leave at 10pm.

Hyderabad was approx 250kms from here! i felt damn sleepy and was finding it very hard to keep myself awake. I asked ravi to stop somewhere and he was "WTF its only 30kms since we started" but i could'nt help it as i did'nt want to crash into on coming traffic as we were on 50% of the time riding on the wrong side of the road coz of 4/6 laneing and all the volvo's from hyderabad were charging towards us. Stopped at some small shop for tea. Both of us had some.We saw some kid's counting the no of buses, lorries that are passing by,we asked him why they said that someone(may be NHAI) had asked them to take a count of the vehicles.i wonder why.

Started off again back to the usual sleepy riding and was finding it hard to see the road with the volvo's headlights blinding us. They did'nt even bother to dip their lights or give way for us. there were several times when we had to go off the road just not to get hit by them. All this and it still did'nt wash away my sleep. But there this one incident which almost got us and an old man killed. i was just following ravi and was only 50% consicious when i saw ravi's taillamp glowing brightly and realised he was breaking real hard. I grab my breaks and i almost rammed into ravi ravi 220 had 2 disc and i had only 1 disc my heart beat rose to its max rate. i was ready to go all out and hit the bloody bugger who made us to break so hard and almost got us killed. I could'nt beleive wat i saw. there was a 15 foot long stick WITH an old man may be in his 80's crossing the road holding the stick horizontally not giving a damn abt the traffic on the highway. Just because of him lots of lorries and buses had to break hard. we freaked out that some bus might ram us from behind. that old man did not react to this whole stituation and went abt his work! That woke me up completely. We had a final pit stop some 70kms before hyderabad and had some water.i must tell u that ravi always drink lot of water esp when touring. Rode slowly and cautiously till the roads were familer to us and there was a bit of traffic jam some 40kms before hyderabad. We started to rip at 100+kmph once the roads were familer to us. reached GMR airport and me and ravi were literally jumping in joy as we have just completed our 1st real longride. Slowed down for a moment we reached the airport exactly at 2am exchanged few words and the excellent 4lane well lite highway welcomed us to hyderabad. Our throttle just didnt listen to us when it saw such a beautiful road. It screams ahead and we could see those triple digit speeds. Then came the airport traffic in that beatiful highway....damn.....but who cares ripped trough the traffic and reached ravi's place at 2.30am on 31march! Ravi had a small head ache and we both were hungry. Only after this we realise that we did'nt have our dinner. Ravi bought some tablets and some chips/biscuts from the 24hrs medical shop after waking up the attendent who was sound asleep. We split the prasadam(laddu) but sadly most of them fell down when we were spliting it. Click some pics and my phone shuts down. I bid good bye to ravi and start slowly toward my home. Its another 22kms from his place. Damn had to go to office the next day. Reach home after almost 1hrs after i started from his home. I rode very slowly at 35-45kmph all the way to home even though the roads were empty.Did'nt feel like going fast! Reached home charged my phone for few mins and come down and took some pics and i hit the bed!

There it is.....my first ever real long ride!

                    Some pics!

                              Awesome Story telling man !

                              Hmm......what can i say.... !
Sorry, may be ? For not replying & going through this post earlier.
What to do, as you said, was over loaded with work.
The log id good though lengthy... it was a special feeling to recollect all the incidents (apart from my lost cell phone, ofcourse !)...
I actually don't remember some of the incidents - blame it on the huge number of my trips AND ofcourse the work which gives little opporyunity to divert our thoughts.
Its very interesting to know what goes through your fellow rider on a ride.
Thanks for putting this up, Satish.
Hoping to ride with you again - a long one, especially at night
