Touring on an automatic - Ride to the border of Gujarat... Maja ma !!

    Date: 20th Nov, 2010
Location (India): Mumbai - Dahanu - Bordi - Umergaon and back.
    Route taken: NH8 - Dahanu(left from kasakhurd) - Bordi - Umergaon
    Total Distance covered: 332 kms
Road condition(at the time): NH 8 is pretty smooth but after you take the dahanu exit from kasakurd the road is roughly patched.
Total no of bikers: Me(honda - dio) and Rutu(Honda - Unicorn)

One way ride takes around 3.5-4.5hrs, given that you stop for photo sessions all along the way !! This was actually a warm-up ride, unplanned and spontaneous as usual.

Why bordi? - Well as a kid I had once been to 'Hill Zill Resort' in bordi. Given that my family doesn't travel / go for outing a lot, I remembered the place very vividly. So just wanted to relive the childhood memories i guess. Also another reason is that its a coastal village(read beach rich) and since I love such locations(I tend to get depressed as I move away from the sea !!) this was naturally at the top of my list.

The ride from Mumbai to Dahanu - We left from rutu's place in the morning around 8 and reached in bordi at around 12.30 in the noon. Excluding the usual 'piss-stops' and photo sessions the first place we stopped was dahanu beach. From dahanu beach to umergaon, is a coastal road. Amazingly beautiful, you can see the various beaches as you ride along this coastal road. As soon as we reached bordi for some reason I didn't feel like stopping so I suggested to Rutu that we keep going for a while.

    'Drag Race !!'

Reaching the Maharashtra-Gujarat Border - As soon as we entered umergaon Rutu noticed a board and signalled to stop. The board said "Gujarat Rajya Hadd Samapt (End of gujarat border)" We were there and we never even realised !!

Rear wheel in maharashtra and front in gujarat !!

'Chickoo chips' - After reaching the border we took a u-turn and continued back towards bordi since we were getting hungry. So we stopped for lunch in bordi. After lunch I thought of buying 'chickoo-chips' which are quite famous in the area(Also I remembered this since the last time I was in bordi when I was like 8, I had tried the all so delicious 'chickoo chips'). After searching around we found that the chickoo season was like a month or two away, so them chips were not to be found anywhere. Btw if you want these chips, given that you are in bordi during the chickoo season, you need to ask for Mr.Suresh Panchal around bordi market. Else read on to know about the manufacturer.

Not ready to take no for an answer, we searched until we found out a certain parsi uncle(lives near golvand station) who is the only manufacturer of chickoo chips and supplies to all the villages in and around bordi. Unfortunately he was out for some family wedding. So we finally gave up our quest and turned back towards mumbai.

Ride back towards mumbai - On the ride back towards mumbai we rode continuous without any stops till thane where we got pulled over by them cops for a routine check. After that I reached my place around 5pm.

nice pics bro... the road from Dahanu till Bordi is awesome i have been there 2-3 months back, they r really tempting and good destination for Photography... it feels like just ride there at a speed of 10kmph.
Replace the words "I have to" with "I choose to" and notice the difference in how you feel.

thanks, i agree with you, nice location for photography, esp since its not as crowded. During the ride we slowed/stopped many times between the coastal road from dahanu to bordi...

Hammer the racetrack. Pace yourself on the street.

Thanks, actually automatics are the worse choice for touring, limited top speed(85kmph), limited range(6 litres tank), average braking, suspension is the worst part, also not to mention the reduced performance on ghats(slopes), and virtually zero offroading capabilities !!

Still, zooming down a ghat at 85kmph on a 100cc automatic is way more fun than say on a r15 or a p220 !!
