  • [Photo Feature]: Weekend getaway to rohtang pass

    In short.
    Bangalore - flight(10th dec 2010 friday 8.20 pm) - delhi
delhi - Bullet (11th Sat 3 am)- Manali
Manali -Bullet (12th Sun 7 am)- rohtang pass - Manali
    Manali - (13th Sun 7 am) - Delhi
    Delhi - (14th 6:30am) - Bangalore.

    The whole story.
Needed a get away to celeberate my birthday.
Called my friend in Delhi 4 days before the trip told him i want to see snow.
And then the plan was put to rohtang pass.
    Things we bought.
2 sleeping bags (quechua -5) from decathlon.
    Shoe.
    cramster Knee guard and bodyguard.
    Sleeping mat.
    and other small things(torch etc).

Packed everthing left to delhi on flight.
Reached delhi at 1:30am and we geared up. and put every thing on bike.
Had a check list and made sure everything was on bike.

We set of at 3am in the cold.

Reached chandigarh at 7:30am.There was heavy fog(no pic have a video will upload soon).
Had breakfast left. Reached Kullu at 6pm with just 3 smoke breaks and no lunch.

Had a freaky experience in the tunnel to kullu where the motorbike headlight dint turn on and there was no tunnel lights. Waited and followed a bus.

We needed to find a camp spot so we dint stop in kullu we continued and searched for a camp spot along beas river. Found one just at nick of sunset.

While i was pitching the tent my friend went to find wood.
Luckily managed to get enough to cook maggi. Had 2 pegs and ate and tucked into the sleeping bag in the cold. Kept the cam and pepper spray near by just in case.
We dint have a thermometer but i guess the temperature was about 0 or low in the night.
Morning when we woke up, there was a think layer of ice on the bike seat and droplets on ice formed on the tent and sleeping bag.
We packed everything in the cold, fingers wr hurting badly due to the cold, my friend almost gave up but we managed. Everything had to be perfect and organised else time and pain was excess. It is easy to pitch a tent but very difficult to pack every thing back in the cold.

We set of at 7:30 to rohtang pass.
    Stopped by to have breakfast.
    Crossed manali and continued.
It was very very very cold the gloves wr not enough but we managed.
The roads are beautiful till marhi and a amazing view all the way.

We had tough time climbing up the road after marhi every thing was frozen from falls to water on road, it was hard to differentiate ice and dusty road. I had to walk along with my friend at point wr ice and water was there.
But the view was getting better and better.
At about 1:30 pm we reached the pass, snow on both side of the road word are hard to describe that view need to see it with your eyes.
Stop at the skiing spot and had some good time.
Was happy to see snow on my birthday.

We left back at about 3pm.
We fell twice cause there was ice on road every wr, even at crawling speeds it is very difficult to ride on ice.
Thanks to the safety gear nothing happened to us.

Reached Manali after sun set. Bought some food and alcohol in Manali and headed back to the camp spot.
This night we dint get wood but we managed to make some friend who wr local people. They wanted to join us for the camp fire and they told they will get wood for us. Gave a lot of thoughts and we went for it. Had a great time and slept.

Got up crapped and washed ass with freezing cold water.
And we set off to delhi. Reached chandigarh to fix all the bike problem and the broken foot rest.
Finally reach Delhi at 1:30am. Cleaned ourself up and i set of to air port to catch my flight at 6:30 and managed to reach work at 11:30am.

    Hope you enjoyed reading this.
